peace partner, in the meantime, they heap misery on themselves so they can complain about how bad off they are. You don't give a new STATE to terrorists but to people who are ready to live in peace with you.

Israeltalk ,   Israel   (04.01.09)
While I agree in principle, in practice this is the beginning of a long term for the people of Israel. http://israeltalk.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/lieberman-the-black-white-wizard/
5. gangster diplomacy
avram moshe   (04.01.09)
Israel is not Russia and not musssolini's Italy... we are a small country in a dangerous territory and threats and bravado get us nowhere... and if Israel distances itself from Annapolis is the fool Lieberman now giving the US the opening to distance itself from the Bush letter legitimizing territorial adjustments? where is charlie chalin now that we need him - we have been in this movie before.
6. Israel's darkest hour
Thornhill, Canada   (04.01.09)
This guy may end up brining hell to Israel's doorstep. He can talk tough however, he must also realize that the countries who fund Israel will keep him on a short leash and if he strays too far, some won't be afraid to let go and watch him and Israel drown.
7. Hope Lieberman will be true to his words
Norman   (04.01.09)
Will earn more respect from the world with a person who means what he says and sticks to principals. If not who cares, Better alive and hated by the antisemites then untold casualties and love by all.

9. finally an Israeli politician who speaks what in his mind
Indigenous ,   Nablus Palestine   (04.01.09)
So it is either real peace or real war...being killed (both sides) without real solution is no good. It is West Bank or Yihoda and Shomron ..cant be both.
10. Lets see how long the 15 hour days really last
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (04.01.09)
I can not see him working 15 hours a day let alone getting his staff to do so. This is posturing that is just plain silly.
11. leiberman is 100%right on!
oded   (04.01.09)
it's about time that the israeli govt. adopts a tough, unyeilding stance towards the arabs in particular and the world in general. during the last 3-4 years , under smartutmart and the zipor, all that was conveyed was capitulation and an eagerness to appease... everybody. well, that obviuosly did work.. now it's time to stand tough, and revert back to the "tough israeli" mentality!
12. Finally Some Spine!
Bluto ,   Cincinnati, U.S.A.   (04.01.09)
Appeasers never prosper. Bibi and Lieberman get it -- the left never will!

(04.01.09)
16. Liberman's press conference
Jerry Stevenson ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (04.01.09)
His comments come as no suprise. He's a bona fide nut case. What is most alarming in this whole debacle is the willingness of the Labor party to become part of such a right wing government. The shame begins with them and ends with them. It's doom and gloom time for Israel Politics.
17. liberman speaks the truth as it is
(04.01.09)
even if it sounds hard and so direct, truth is thruth and must be faced with head through wall!
18. Sir u r embarrasing urself & the State pls watch ur manners!
(04.01.09)
If this is your plan are you really that insecure that you need to shout it from the highest roof tops? Wouldn't it be more effective to be silent about it? In answering those two questions I refer you to Mr. Shamir's tactics during the Madrid conference September 1991! Kept them talking didn't give them a thing and then turned around and blasted the tootsies off of Masawi (secretary general of the Hizballah) in Lebanon in February 1992! So rule one: keep your mouth shut and your nose clean! Rule 2: diplomacy is all about saying one thing and doing another! Finally I didn't vote for you but as it happens you are my duly elected representative please do try not to embarrass yourself or the state of Israel! p.s. remember if you really foul up we'll vote you out of office!
19. #6

Mr Thornhill, you believe we should listen to someone from a country which just completed the wholesale slaughter of seals for no reason but savage blood lust?
20. correction to headlines
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.01.09)
"concessions won't bring peace" should read: "concessions have brought only death, destruction and war": the bus bombing war, Second Intifada, Lebanon II and Cast Lead
21. Talk tough and carry a big stick
Al   (04.01.09)

24. Lieberman said what needs to be said.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (04.01.09)
After listening to Peres and his kind insist "We vant peaccccccce!" for 15 years in response to cries of "Death to Israel!" For more than 15 years, we heard Peres respond to cries of "Death to Israel!" with an insistent "We vant peaccccce!". That was the wrong response. Instead, the response should be "We have rights here and are prepared to defend them" accompanied by a "Don't mess with us!" reminder if the need arises. I'm also pleased to see "reciprocity" back in fashion. That was a linch-pin principle during Netanyahu's first term as PM, but the US never appreciated it. But if Israel under Rabin and Peres never insisted on it, could we expect more from the US? If the new Israeli team makes clear this is an operative principle, perhaps Obama's team will finally accept it and act accordingly.
25. Poor liberman

27. Go Lieberman, no more american stooges in Israel
(04.01.09)
28. Lieberman is discussing landscaping on the Road to surrender
Marcella   (04.01.09)
The problem with Israel is that it has not presented any options to the roadmap that has been IMPOSSED on Israel by foreign powers. Haven't you read about Obama and Blair saying "there is no alternative to the two-state solution'? They are right. There is no alternative because the Jews have NOT presented any alternative. Now Lieberman wants to appear tough while arguing semantics. The Roadmap, Oslo, the Saudi proposal, all that have been solutions impossed from outside. What alternatives do the Jews of Israel have to offer? None. Because of timidity, perhaps, or lack of self-confidence, or fatalism. But that doesn't need to be so. C'mon people, look after your own interests (all countries do this) and come up with a solution that will represent an option for Israel's survival.
29. Pretty good over-all, with one exception
Steve   (04.01.09)
This is a brand new government. This government should not be bound by previous governments. For example, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon protested Bush's post 9/11 announcement that he (Bush) would work to establish a Muslim-terror state in Israel. Sharon rightly compared Bush to Neville Chamberlain at Munich: Sharon: “I call on the Western democracies and primarily the leader of the free world, the United States: Do not repeat the dreadful mistake of 1938 when enlightened European democracies decided to sacrifice Czechoslovakia for a convenient temporary solution. Do not try to appease the Arabs on our expense...." Colin Powell pummeled this politically weak prime minister into submission and then forced Israel to agree to the Bush / Saudi road map for Israel's destruction. In spite of the Sharon government offering some fifteen reservations to the road map, Powell, Rice and Bush made it clear there would be no reservations. The road map for Israel's annihilation would be accepted "as is!" I say, no government is bound to accept a previous government's bad agreement(s), especially when the previous government is bullied into submission by a big and immoral power like the United States. But the Almighty is bigger than this earthly bully. I pray that God will deal with the United States. This is my prayer.
