31. "fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possiblity"
stargazer ,   Israel   (04.06.09)
Golda Meir said: “We will have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us” I have been waiting a long time to hear such a voice as Dr. Abu al-AIsh come out of the Palestinians. And these voices are finally here. They are a drop in a sea of the Palestinian collective consciousness but as Golda also said: “Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” It is our DUTY and resonsibility to advertize and encourages such brave and courageous Palestinians. IMO, Dr. Abu al-Aish 'should' get the prize, this will only help the fan the flames of love and compassion!! We don't really have any other choice. Resistance and war has not gotten us very far. Stargazer
32. is this stupid or what?
frank ,   Isarel   (04.06.09)
If loosing children is the criteria then take your pick of Israelis. What were they thinking? obviously it is a statement against jews and israelis. the enemy wages war and gets prizes. The world will learn but only after they have accomplished their goal of eliminating us.
33. i believe he at least
(04.06.09)
deserves it more than yassir arafat did.
34. He doesn't deserve the nobel prize but
(04.06.09)
Being a doctor of obstetrics who lost 3 children and some other members of his family, continue to be a doctor in Israel at the medical center in Tel Hashomer, he is an INSPIRATION FOR HOPE AND PEACE.

36. another untrue news
eli ,   tel aviv israel   (04.06.09)
Mr. Edelson who wrote this article should have a look at least into the web page of nobel prize and see who is eligible for nobel prize: http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/nominators.html 1. Members of national assemblies and governments of states; 2. Members of international courts; 3. University rectors; professors of social sciences, history, philosophy, law and theology; directors of peace research institutes and foreign policy institutes; 4. Persons who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; 5. Board members of organizations who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; 6. Active and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (proposals by members of the Committee to be submitted no later than at the first meeting of the Committee after February 1) and 7. 37. All Israeli victims of Arab terrorism should get a Nobel!
Only Jewhaters get ,   Nobel "peace" prizes   (04.06.09)
38. gazan doctor nominated
debbie ,   israel   (04.06.09)
TO AVNER #20, That was exactly my first thought - an effort to smirch Israel by publicizing this nomination. I am so so sorry for this man and his family. Wish he had evacuated when he was warned to. I certainly would not have sat with my children in a bombing zone, especially with his connections. Belgium is known for many years of anti-Semitic anti-Israel policy and this nomination definitely reeks. TO SHAUL @4, So sorry about your parents.
39. gazan doctor nominated
debbie ,   israel   (04.06.09)
Especially at this time of year, we should remember all the Israeli survivors of Arab suicide bombs who lost their entire families while sitting and enjoying a meal with their loved ones in a restaurant or hotel. There were those that lost spouses, children and parents all at once. I don't believe the Belgium Government (or any government) expressed outrage or sorrow, let alone nominated them for any prizes. That said, I am very very sorry for the doctor's loss, regardless of how it happened.
40. Yes, he deserve it the Nobel Prize Whiner
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (04.06.09)
He'll be joining this Hall Of Shame alongside, Desmond 22, Mohd. Jimmy Bin Carter, Arafart , Ahmed Baradog, Coffee Anan, Nelson Mandela and the lot
41. What for?
David Thompson ,   Melbourne, Australia   (04.06.09)
I know it's a shame that this guy lost his kids, but why should he get the Nobel Peace Prize? I know there's a lot of Israelis and Arabs doing projects together aimed at peace, why not them? What about Shalit's family? Why not them? It's just more biased junk from people don't know the full picture
42. Stop being ridiculous
Israel   (04.06.09)
He was not told to leave his home, and even if he was told all of gaza was not save . He was speaking live with Channel 10 at the moment of the tragedy
43. The Peace Prize
OdS ,   Norway   (04.06.09)
The Nobel Peace Prize was draged into the dirt when given to Jassir Arafat. For the future the peace prizes should be postponed and added to a jackpot (!) waiting for a worthy receiver: He or she who rids the World of its ugliest curse ever, Islam. OdS - Norway
44. Bloodthursty arafat got the Peace Prize, so why not Hamas?
robert renders ,   belgium   (04.06.09)
45. stop Ignoring facts, give him the prize
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.06.09)
Everyone forgets that the Abu al-Aish family was killed as "collateral damage", not by Israeli fire but by Hamas fire. Everyone forgets that Abu al-Aish wanted his daughters to receive an education, something impossible under Hamas and only possible for an Arab woman under "Israeli oppression". Abu al-Aish is the ultimate Arab victim: his Arab brothers destroy his life, but fellow Muslims and the world don't care about reality, only how they can abuse his sorrow to hate the Jews.
46. By consider the Dr. they set the stage for yet another...
Ruti ,   Dalia, Israel   (04.06.09)
...concerted attack at Israel for defending its citizens and its sovreignty, as though Jews have no right to defend themselves, as expected by "their savior"...
47. Don't forget there's also an Academy Award for best actor
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (04.06.09)
waiting for this Doctor. ... for fooling the world into believing that he's a victim. What man would sacrifice his own dotters for valour
48. #9 Standard IDF procedure???
Chocko ,   New York USA   (04.06.09)
Well if its standard IDF procedure, it must have happened.... If the most moral army in the world sent a request to evacuate the building, it must have happened, if the IDF say they were only returning fire, it must have happened. If the doctor denies getting any notification, he must be lying. If the IDF were using Phosphorous bombs as a method to light up the area (during day-time) it must be true. If my aunt had rocks she would be my uncle and you must be a fool Gary.
49. Nobel Prize
NYC Girl   (04.06.09)
This is one more of example of the fact that the Peace Prize has become totally politicized. After all, there were Israeli families that were decimated during the years of suicide bombings, but nobody is giving them any prizes.
50. Reward for terrorism!
(04.06.09)
51. We the Jews of Israel....
Moshe (left & proud) ,   Israel   (04.06.09)
have lost our compassion and humanity. Shame on us. The majority of the talk backs here reflect bigotry and hate. I am ashamed to be an Israeli. End of story. May be we need to be discriminated against, may be anti semitism is a necessary evil to make us discover our humanity again.
52. nobel peace price
seb ,   germany   (04.06.09)
After Al Gore received it , for his weather crusade , what is it worth anyway? This man lost his children , at least they should give him a price that has some meaning at all. And giving the same price to this man , that they gave to Arafat is a kind of rude.
53. The Doctor gets my vote.....
Moshe (left & proud) ,   Israel   (04.06.09)
There is no other person on earth that deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than Dr. Abu al-Aish!
54. I would like to offer an explanation
leo ,   USA   (04.06.09)
why I believe this man deserves recognition. Many concentrate on the fact that doctor lost his children and that is why he deserves to be awarded. But why stop there? Why not take a look at what happened after doctor lost his children? He offered peace to, what he might say, his children killers. Why are we so ego to neglect this part? Can we be strong enough to give credit where credit is due?
55. #54 - Interesting parallels Leo. Please read what you wrote
Gary   (04.06.09)
You write: "He offered peace to, what he might say, his children killers. Why are we so ego to neglect this part? Can we be strong enough to give credit where credit is due? " Well, well... Same thing could be said of the entire Jewish people, who have been victimized by you know who and who continue to offer them not only peace but actual Jewish land so that they can have their own state. And, should I continue to list what their response has been? Funny how some people see the good in one side only and consciously or not, ignore the good in the other,.
56. Gary @ 55
leo ,   USA   (04.06.09)
Whether you and/or I are right or wrong, whether Jews get due recognition or not is irrelevant to the fact what this doctor did. Your life will not be better if you will argue out of spite. Besides, does anybody seriously think that doctor can really be consoled this this Prize.
57. @36 nominators are not nominees
another guy who cant   (04.06.09)
you confused nominators with nominees.. the list you give are the people who can suggest a possible laureate not eligibilty for the prize..
