Arabs are discriminated every day by israel institutionally but also at social level.

a reasonably accurate one I would guess....

Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (04.07.09)
This is not a minority issue at all, Arabs make up 60% of the workforce. If they were representative of the workforce they would be 20%. It's not like Arabs don't serve. There are plenty of them that could get those jobs.
6. arabs who didnt serve pose a threat

7. I most definitely agree with Minister Braverman
Daniel Breslauer ,   Jerusalem   (04.07.09)
There is no reason at all to fire them. If they do their jobs the way they are supposed to, who cares whether they were in the IDF? I think it should be forbidden for companies to hire only IDF veterans. This kind of policy discriminates not only against Arabs, but also against other sectors who did not serve in the army, such as Haredim (like me) and new immigrants (again, like me). As Braverman wrote, why should this be relevant? Aren't security guards elsewhere also those who didn't serve in the army? And how about, for example, police offers in Europe, or in America? Did they serve in the army? If not, does that make them bad police officers? I do not see the added value of having someone who was, for example, a former army cook or office worker, over a well-trained Arab who does his job exactly the way he is supposed to.
8. Encouragement to do army OR civil service isn't discriminati
Grigorius   (04.07.09)
Discrimination is when you discriminate against a nation. When you prefer to employ people who served the society - it's only normal. Arabs can do civil service insted of IDF - help the poor and ill in their own cities. They don't want to do this because it'll "undermine their national identity". Their problem.
9. America has the G.I. Bill, why shouldn't Israel...
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (04.07.09)
make sure their veterans get priority? I agree, they should not be fired. It should not be retroactive, but FROM NOW ON IDF veterans SHOULD get priority.
10. Its their own fault
Steve   (04.07.09)
This is the Arabs' own fault. They could serve in the army like everybody else. If they did, these problems wouldn't happen. The Druze serve. Most of the Bedouins serve. So why is it that these Arabs believe they should be exempt? Consider this scenario. Shabak receives intelligence that a terrorist attack is planned on a train, and notifies the train company's security. The company needs to assign two people to guard a gate to stop this attack. There are 3 guards who are free to take up this assignment. The first guard served in a infantry combat unit in the IDF, and has fought against terrorists before. The second guard served in the Border Police, and has responded to terrorist incidents before. The third guard did not serve in the IDF, and has never even seen a terrorist before. Who is going to do a better job? I think we all know the answer.
11. A baby will be born to free the Jews - Kill All Male Babies
meir elazar   (04.07.09)
Pesach is quickly approaching and we will read about the prophesy of a baby being born that will free the Israelites from slavery. Therefore, Pharoah decreed that all male babies should be killed. Making a blanket statement that would eliminate jobs is somewhat problematic. On the one hand it pains Israel as descriminatory but one the other is a necessity after an Arab worker exploited his inside knowledge to blow up the Park Hotel in Netanya on Pesach some years ago. This was followed by another Arab worker who exploited his knowledge and access to plant a bomb in the Hebrew University Cafeteria. This gave rise to massive advertising "WE DON'T HIRE ARABS". The reality is that these terrorist attacks end up hurting the Palestinians far more than Israelis as the jobs become more scarce and they become increasingly strangled and imprisoned. The terrorist actions only increase the polarization and reduce the likelihood of any peaceful coexistance. We need to somehow be able to identify the potential terrorists without punishing the innocent. We read of an Israeli missing in Italy with the name of Hussein and a father with the title of Dr. We hear of Arabs working side by side with Israelis in Hospitals treating patients not nationals of this camp or the other. Israel will be providing assistance in find the missing Hussein bearing an Israeli passpost and trying to meet their obligations to an Israel citizen and his family. Painting the Arab population with to wide a brush will create more hostilities and diminish the chances for coexistance not only between Israelis and Palestinians but between Jewish Israelis and Arab Israelis. Arabs must speak out much more loudly against terror and be counted in the war against terror and we must be careful not to paint all Arabs as terrorists. By the way USA give preference points to job applicants for national military service.
12. How did arabs get 60% of railway jobs? Thats discrimination.

You'd think Israelis would be used to it after 120 years of attacks. Why don't you criticize Arab terrorists for causing their own innocent citizens economic hardship? (good luck trying for freedom of speech there). What would happen if a Jew wanted equal rights in an Arab country - even one where he/she had roots? BUT THAT'S NOT YOUR POINT. Your schwastika is showing. Go boycott us already.
15. Veterans of the I.D.F. should receive

jobs first in any field. Vets should also be first in line for higher education. If you did not serve, you deserve nothing!

Because those arabs don't want to kill their own brothers and sisters. Since the establishment of Israel and it's attacking its neighbours which happen to be arabs. Think more next time.....
17. Braverman and the Arabs
True Zionist ,   Tel Aviv   (04.07.09)
It all depends what you want. If its to maintain the promise written into our Declaration of Independence to the Arabs of Israel then without question these Arab employees should never have been fired. If on the other hand the promise was unintentional, then they should never have been hired in the first place and Israel should have declared itself an exclusively Jewish state, one that could not claim to be a democracy, would have excluded all other faiths and peoples and would have been a pariah from the outset. That Braverman has made this his first act is a surprise for a government whose linchpin is a bigot. If the reinstatement is maintained a small moral test for an otherwise morally dubious government will have been passed.

Israelis believes in military conscription-fine with ya'll. though trying to force others to believe and do what you believe in is just plain dictator-like.
