1. US Interests
Steve ,   Palm Beach, USA   (04.13.09)
The best interests of the United States doesn't particularly matter to Obama, quite the contrary. Every indication is that he has nothing but contempt for this country. The fact that 70% of US Jews voted for this Community Organizer in also, unfortunately, rather telling.
2. Dependent
YT ,   Jerusalem   (04.13.09)
Our problem is that we are dependent on American aid (money), so we are not an independent country. All gifts have strings attached.
3. To Chana
Marucho ,   Bs.Aires-Argentina   (04.13.09)
You should try to convince Roger Cohen from The New York Times first.. He has quite a very different point of view on this matter, such as many other smart guys in the U.S.: Brzesinski, Carter, etc.
4. Obama is not a friend to Israel
Dudet ,   Suid Afirca   (04.13.09)
He will sell you guys out. However, this is the plan of the BIG guy upstairs. G-D loves Israel, If America turns thier back on Israel, America will fall. Obama is the end of America's Superpower status. G-D bless America! but for that... America must bless Israel
5. "it is a symbol of freedom"whats a joke
yonis   (04.13.09)
the west are already know israel is the main reason for unstablized the mid east and around the world
6. # 2 YT in Yerushalaim
Ivri ,   IL   (04.13.09)
Every $ "given" to Israel is in the form of purchase contract with defense manufacturers in The USA,and MUST BE SPENT IN THE USA. Not a nickle is towards any other purpose. So...Lets supose the Obambi administration decides to stop the aid......how many jobs will be lost in the USA. ? And how exactly can he explain it to Congress?or to the American people.?
7. Israel is not dependent on US money maybe the veto though
Jabadini ,   Melbourne   (04.13.09)
Israels GDP is over 150billion, the 3 billion a year is not what keeps the country alive. This money is mostly spent in the US instead of buying Israel made weaponry.
8. Hardly at all. #2
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (04.13.09)
2.5-3.5 Billion dollars annually goes to Israel from the U.S. That's an extremely small percentage of Israel's own GDP. Likewise, Gaza was pledged 4.4 Billion dollars recently, over 50% of it's own GDP yet Hamas hardly cares what pressure the world puts on it....if the world ever does. The only dependence Israel truly has with the U.S. is diplomatic ties to pressure common foes, the IMAGE of America as an ally, and the possible threat of America acting militarily on behalf of Israel. However, what this article points out is how America is greatly dependent on Israel. C'mon, we all know how much the US military and intelligence learns from Israel's. How much technology from Israel is used in America? How Israel provides a landing strip for american jets.....
9. As the US is not the world's policeman anymore
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (04.14.09)
Israel will have to fill the role and sort out the problems of the Iranian nuclear threat and the Jihadi threat . After the destruction of the SECOND TEMPLE G-D appointed the west as the world's policeman after the US has abdicated the role Israel will fill the position of world policeman .This is explains why the US and Obama are innefectual and can safely be ignored
10. Irvi #6: Do you have a wife?
Steve   (04.14.09)
I'd like to urge your wife to slap some sense into you . You are in denial man. Come on! How often do I need to read your rationale for bribery? American aid buys innocent Jewish blood. It buys suicidal concessions. Every diplomat worth his or her salt knows this. Wake up? Stop lying to yourself and to others. Do you want Israel to remain a banana republic forever?
11. Aaron #8: Amazing how the truth stirs a hornet's nest.
Steve   (04.14.09)
Read my response to #6. You both are in denial; incredibly so! Wake up. Smell the coffee. Stop defending the indefensible. You are not showing yourself a friend to Israel considering you want Israel to be dependent on a nation who does not have Israel's interests at heart. I'm sure you mean well. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
12. postponement
marcel   (04.14.09)
Two state put forward by olmert who is ill. Now we find out that the high court of israel who postponed the april hearing of olmert because olmert offered a note from his doctor saying that he had to go to the US for consultation or treatment of his prostate cancer was unaware that Olmert has not refused thus far a speaking engagement in Kazakstan on April 23/09. What a bunch of high court jerks. Did olmert therefore lie to the court in his submssion? I assume the court concluded that he was leaving israel only for treatment and not for business and or entertainment activities. What stench, what corruption. If the court determines that olmert has not been candid with it, then the appropriate sanctions should be applied. Israelis do not want their high officials to be accorded a different level of justice which sure looks like it.How many apparent lies can one tell!
13. Overseas Contingency Operation
Rick ,   Los Angeles Ca USA   (04.14.09)
Should be changed to "Local Overseas Contingency Operation". Not because it will make one iota of difference in the foreign policy weakness of the Obama administration, simply because its initials LOCO would define this policy very nicely.
14. #5 - you present your personal opinion as if it is fact.
redbourn ,   tel aviv   (04.14.09)
You can of course post whatever you like, but without supporting facts, your post remains just a statement of personal opinion, and therefore of no consequence. Mike
15. #2 - you are wrong and here is why ..
redbourn ,   tel aviv   (04.14.09)
Cutting off aid? Thanks to Bibi the Israeli taxpayer could absorb such a burden fairly easily because US aid, even when combined with the Diaspora's donations, equals less than 2 percent of Israel's GDP. Cutting of weapons supplies? That would mean firing the engineers, technicians and blue-collar workers involved in manufacturing what the IDF buys from the U.S. Can you imagine that at this present time? Israel is also the US's only true ally in the region. People who imagine that the US can simply bully Israel into doing things that it doesn't want are simply short on facts. Post #7 explains the situation too. Posting misinformation is damaging, so please don't do it, because you harm the work of many people that work in hasbara. thanks, Mike
16. All Jews(NOT Israeli) hope U get selfrespect of Israel back.
Sam   (04.14.09)
17. Obama The Sell Out
Dan ,   USA   (04.14.09)
Obama will, in the end, sell out both the United States and Israel for his Muslim friends. Originally I thought he would be a one term president, but his far left supporters, which include most American Jews, want a strong America and don't like Zionists.
18. truly unfortunate
ben ,   ny usa   (04.14.09)
that americans overwhelmingly want to distance themselves from israel as they see israel as the cause of hatred against america and the reason for 9/11.......unfortunately americans now see obama as bthe champ who put aipac in its place.....
19. obama is an idiot more so than even carter
(04.14.09)
20. Don't overestimate yourselves. Obama will sell you out like
believeit ,   Chicago   (04.14.09)
Obama will sell you out like *that*. He'll cozy up to Iran in his naive, historically ignorant game of realpolitik. Meanwhile, Gates is warning Israel of 'backlash'.. (hmmm.. sounds like a pogrom to me.)... if Israel dares to pre-emptively hit Iran. Even Peres knows these Persian Crematoria have to be stopped. It's gonna be a very hot summer....
21. Is Israel more dependent on US than others who receive aid?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (04.14.09)
YT writes, "Our problem is that we are dependent on American aid (money), so we are not an independent country." As others have pointed out, US aid - almost entirely military - amounts to some 2% of Israel's GNP. It could certainly get by without it. But as long as Egypt, Jordan and the PA are getting even more yearly from the US, Israel needs to remain competitive. The one difference: Israel consistently stands with the US, while the others more often than not stand *against* the US. While we could also point out that thousands of US workers in the manufacturing sector benefit by those aid-supported sales to Israel, Obama must not care for them very much. After all, tens of thousands will be out of work with the shutdown of the F-22 lines. That'll free up funding to help ... create jobs!
22. You People Are Deranged!!!
Heather Czerniak ,   Milwaukee, WI, USA   (04.14.09)
First of all, The US must help Israel defend itself until the US ends its dependency on oil from the Middle East. Besides their conventional arsenal, Israel also has nukes and enough long-range missiles to wipe out most Arab population centers, necessary evil when you're vastly outnumbered. Second, the Israeli/Jewish lobby is not the hand that twists the US's arm, it is the fact that our oil companies got us into a predicament that we can't just walk away from. the US has much more leverage over Israel than vice versa. How could a tiny country that is surrounded by enemies and has to grovel for the military aid it gets from the US possibly be in a position to call any shots? Steve from Palm Beach, the percentage of Jews who voted for Obama is much smaller than you think. Less half of the Jewish 2% of the US population actually voted for Obama. Many of them, like me and my husband, voted third party this time. So take your anti-Semitic Jewish conspiracy theory and stick it!
23. Israel will meet OBAMA'S PRESSURE for THE TWO-STATES ...
... SOLUTION ,   Atilla Karagözoğlu   (04.14.09)
if not ! Obama loses. not just Obama, The US also loses, Not just The US ! Israel also loses not just Israel ! Middle East also loses not just middle east ! ALL WORLD LOSES. economically ! politically, etnically ! so ! lets decide what we truly want to see ! DO WE HAVE TO TAKE ALL WORLD DOWN ! and if it is ! for what ? *** PS : I just wrote above post for Arutz 7 they didnt publish it yet.
24. Err.....
John ,   London   (04.14.09)
Actually, the point is the exact opposite to the one that Chana makes. The US and the EU are slowly waking up to the fact that Israel is a small country in a bad neighbourhood. It is the conflict that matters to us, not the countries. Israel is just a sunnier version of Slovakia (with nicer food and prettier girls). Our interests (and Israel's too, for that matter) are in regional stability which means Israel making peace with the moderate Arabs (which means a two-state solution to the Israeli-Pal conflict). We are no longer convinced that we need Israel as some sort of beserker in the midst of the Arab hordes - indeed we think that you might be a bit out of control at times and that you are part of the problem as well as part of the solution. Same goes for the Palestinians, by the way. We're fed up with paying billions of pounds to a poor-man's version of Jordan and with our senior politicians having to call on fourth-raters like Abbas. The generation that saw Israel as an ideological good is dying off. The generation that sees Israel as a political problem that needs sorting is in the ascendant. I hope that this shift in emphasis will be beneficial to Israel itself in the long run. I see Chana describes herself as "pro-Israel": must it always be those that see the future of Israel in aggressive and militaristic terms who get to call themselves that?
25. Steve ,Make sure your wife
lalush   (04.14.09)
gives you your meds on time...or slaps you for fun every now and then, you seem to need it
26. re Chana Givon
Allyson Rowen Taylor ,   Los Angeles, USA   (04.14.09)
This article states the facts, and should be read by everyone in the Obama adminstration. The issues discussed are very important and this is a must read for all activists who are concerned about the future of the Jewish State.
27. Is Obama Listening??
fred ,   Jerusalem   (04.14.09)
Unless the leaders of the free world come to these same conclusions, we can expect more and more pressure on Israel to concede to our enemies wishes. What lies beneath the surface is simply anti-Judaism. It always was and it always will be. Israel must act with this in mind.
28. When Israelis Lack Self Respect The Outcome Is A Disaster
Adina Kutnicki ,   Israel,new olah   (04.14.09)
The US needs Israel MORE than Israel needs the US.
29. AMERICA
BEN ,   BALTIMORE   (04.14.09)
AMERICANS WOULD REVOLT IF OBAMA LET ISRAEL BOMB IRAN AND DRAG US INTO WAR FOR NOTHING, oh how israelis laughed when olmert bragged about making bush get on the phone in the middle of a speech.......its over americans despise the lobby and frankly want obama to keep spanking bibi ,thats what makes us proud of him, and we laugh at your realization that the gig is up
30. # 17 I meant to write....
Dan ,   USA   (04.14.09)
