Given the fanatical long term aim of the ayatollahs to dominate & impose their brand of Shiite Islam to the majority Arab Sunni world using Israel's destruction as an enticement & pretext for Arab cooperation, there is no concession acceptable to the West that can be offered to satisfy Iran & to deter them. The US cannot even offer Irak to Iran, since Irak will be anyway dominated by Shiites & Iran once the G.I,'s leave. And it is not plausible that the West would give Syria & Iran more say in the affairs of Lebanon that they already have with the dominant military power of their Hizbollah proxy which has veto power in the government even though it is a minority player. So, whatever path the diplomatic negotiations (& weak carrot & stick measures) take, they will end in failure since there is no sign of internal upwheal to threaten the regime of the religious leaders who control the electoral process & the petrodollars of the economy. In the end resorting to military action to prevent or delay the acquisition of nuclear weapons by Iran will be the only recourse left as Russia & China are preventing complete economic isolation of Iran which had a small chance of bringing Iran to negotiate a more peaceful resolution of the nuclear & terrorist proxies threat. Even if Iran would show public sign of mollifying its stance it would still use undercover means to provoke troubles & terrorist actions outside its borders as on the past (remember Argentina, Egypt, Saudi Arabia....)

As for now, the diplomatic approach is taken to resolve Iran's nuclear issue. However, time will come when action is necessary to protect Israel and her citizens. Israel is waiting for the green light from USA which will only be given if all diplomatic avenues have failed.

Personally, I doubt very much that Netanyahu will have the courage to do the necessary strike on Iran. I hope I am wrong. In any case, there is no more time to waste. Iran has outdated russian and US military machines and technology. They are decades behind Israel and the West. They are the largest military machine in the region, but they don't stand a chance against a solid carpet bombing by superior forces.
