1. Will they have a separte women's section?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.26.09)
If they do it will probably be back near the kitchen and the loos.
2. mmm, finally
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (04.26.09)
nothing like a little glatt before a long flight.
3. Let me know once you've decided on the Hashgacha
Even Gold   (04.26.09)
Great idea, but it will take longer to decide on which hashgacha, to use. Be a good idea to have space next to each table for hat boxes so that no one can trip over them. I would suggest that clients go to the James Richardsons and buy the 10 boxes of Marlbaro after the they have finished the meal. For those travelling prior to this place opening id avoid buying any whisky from James Richardson,as once again it is seems as if it is chometz she avar alav Pesach..As for the chocolates...its all avkat NOCHRI and many of them have triangles on them that for some reason seems to be the wrong shape at the wrong time...Not that the circle became such a holy symbol...
4. Oi life is not only about EATING !
ben ,   Golan - sing   (04.26.09)
5. #3 at least it is Avkat Kokhri and not AKUM...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.26.09)
...if a non-Jew used and expresion on line with AKUM for a Jew, boy would there be shouts of antisemitism!!!! Speaking of which I assume the wine will be cooked, or as it says on the labels -- MEVUSHAL. Got to make sure that it can still be used with all those AKUM people that may handle it at the airport!
6. Give them seperate planes as well
Avi ,   Israel   (04.26.09)
then we can all relax !
7. #6 - try Delta's Friday nite special to the Atlanta
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.26.09)
Only direct flight from Israel--> USA I was ever able to sleep on!
8. #6 and #7
dan ,   London   (04.26.09)
The hate for the Orthodox Jew that so many Secular Israelis display is one of the reasons i will never leave London to move to Israel. And I am not too Orthodox myself!
9. Akum and Proud of it! because G-d understands me!
(04.26.09)
10. Give them a separate airport.
jason white ,   afula,israel   (04.26.09)
Rebuild the one in gaza.
11. Such self hatred in comments, sad, sad
m   (04.26.09)
It sounds to me that any outlet in Europe or America posting such comments would have been branded antisemitic. Jews, aren't you ashamed to show such hatred? You only hurt yourselves, not the enemy.
12. Change the Name
Pal Pal ,   The M E   (04.26.09)
"Glatt"doesn't sound too apertising-"I'm going to have some glatt splat on my plate". The whole Hebrew language needs modernising to stop making it sound so funny!
13. Not open yet
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (04.26.09)
The airport Authority only will issue a tender . Let's wait and see who will be interested in such a business . Maybe chabad , they have already a booth where they try to proselite . Hatred in the TB's ? is'nt it true that ultra orthodox always give problems to the cabin crew . First they don't want to sit near someone , then they need glad kosher food , and the "normal" passengers can wait . Those are facts .
14. Law?
David Olesker ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.26.09)
I wonder if it will be required to be open on Shabbat. Other facilities at Ben Gurion are required, as a provision of thier contract of service, to be open on Shabbat and Jewish holidays. This provision not only means that religious Jews are barred from operating stores or cafes at the airport, but is also illegal under Israeli law.
15. How sad
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (04.26.09)
Okay--they want to open a Glatt Kosher restaurant. I would like just one of the talkbacker posters who have spewed hatred to explain how this restaurant will harm THEM!! It is time for some people to stop and think before they post. Hatred does nobody any good. You condemn the Charedi for the way you say they treat the secular. Are you any better?
16. Dotty Fiend
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (04.27.09)
Why should it bother you so much if somebody opens a mehadrin restaurant? NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO EAT THERE.
17. Not just "Ultra-Orthdox" Seeking Kosher
Alden ,   Boca Raton, Florida   (04.27.09)
I can assure you that the hundreds of kosher restaurants found in Israel, Canada, the United States and elsewhere cater to more than just the Haredi community. Millions of Jews worldwide consider Kashrut observance as part of their day-to-day lives although most of us do not label ourselves as Ultra-Orthodox or Haredi.
18. Aren't seculars uber sensitive, my my...
kate s. ,   kfar shmaryahu   (04.27.09)
quite pathetic, guys and dolls. Try to get a grip on yourselves, as your insecurities are shrieking.. gewalt.
19. Make it affordable, not everyone flying is rich.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (04.27.09)
20. Alden 17 , you don't know about what we talk
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (04.27.09)
You are not aware of what we are talking here . It's not about Kosher restaurants [ all are Kosher at the airport , i think ] but about "GLATT" kosher . Kosher is NOT enough for Ultra Orthodox Jews .
21. David # 14 . Not relevant
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (04.27.09)
A restaurant that operates on Shabbat can't receive a Kashrut certificate . Secondly , there are no Orthodox travellers on Shabbat .
22. Secular hypocrisy
Daniel Breslauer ,   Jerusalem   (04.27.09)
Dorothy Friend, Jason White, Avi, and others: You write that we Haredim should get separate planes, even a separate airport. Well, regarding buses, that's what we did. We got our own, separate buses, leaving in Jerusalem from Har Chotzvim (not from the Central Bus Station) and going straight from Jerusalem's Haredi areas to the Haredi areas of other cities, such as Bnei Brak, Ashdod, Beit Shemesh, Petach Tikvah, Netanya, Kiryat Gat, and other lines to Modi'in Illit and Beitar Illit. And what is your response to that? That these lines should be cancelled! Now you are suggesting that we should get separate airplanes and separate airports. I assume that also means that you now agree to the existence of 'Mehadrin' buses? By the way, I myself am a Haredi Jew who doesn't mind sitting on a plane next to a woman. I don't mind sitting in a mixed bus. Of course I prefer sitting next to either my wife or a man, but I definitely don't make problems. And when I fly, I either pre-order the meal I want, and if I didn't do that (as happened recently on a flight back from Germany to Israel) I simply don't eat anything from the plane - I take along my own food, and come on, it's a 4 or 5 hour flight, who cares?! I don't expect to get a meal on an Egged bus from Kiryat Shmonah to Jerusalem either! (About the same time, also a journey of about 4 hours.) And praying on a plane, it is widely accepted and common knowledge that one does so in his seat. Even better, and highly preferable, do it before getting on the plane, if possible. With flights to and from Europe, that is no problem. The only (only!) time it could be a problem would be in the winter, if the plane leaves at 13:00 and shkiah (sunset) is at 17:00, then one would be forced to pray mincha on the plane. But then, again, once can do so IN HIS SEAT. In any case, I've never been on a plane where more than 1 out of 100 passengers were religious. I don't travel to America, only to Europe (Holland or Germany), and usually a 200-seat plane has no more than 2 or 3 religious people on board. (Which also pretty much ridiculizes the idea of 'separate flights'. There would be one flight every 6 months, then.)
23. It is about choice
Yakov   (04.27.09)
Being in Israel, I don't see why there could not be a Glatt Kosher restaurant at Ben Gurion Airport. It's not like there will be another in any other airport in the region anytime soon-not even at Ovda. Why shouldn't the Hareidim not have the choice to go to a restaurant that will suit their needs? I don't see any problem with it.
24. Bunny Meier # 19
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (04.28.09)
You are right , not everyone flying is rich . When you buy a ticket for , let's say , 700 US$ , those 2 or 3 $ you have to pay extra don't make a difference . And nobody is forcing you to eat there , it's your choice .
25. Daniel Breslauer ,
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (04.28.09)
It's not hypocrisy , it's stupidity from people who are ALWAYS anti charidi . For me no problem if someone opens a mehadrin restaurant at BG airport . It's not my money that is at risk . Fine that you don't make problems when seated next to a woman . I , on my flights to Brussels had ALWAYS many charidim on board , so we had ALWAYS to wait untill they were served their meal , to receive ours . I once flew on Tisha Be'av . Then religious people wanted their meal half an hour [ end of the fast ] before landing at BG airport . They were not happy to hear that they could NOT be served , too late .
