Two of my nieces work on cruise ships and they are so cautious that they do not go into foreign ports without an escort. They stay on the ships and eat and drink only from ship water and food supplies when out of US waters. But even being on the ship can be dangerous, but less so for crew than for passengers who are viewed as prey by some unscrupulous foreign nationals who know prosecution is unlikely for any crime. The Somali pirates have the same attitude: crime pays almost without penalties.
