1. Excuse me, but ....
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (04.29.09)
They left voluntarily. This is well documented, actually -- they (foolishly) heeded the call of a Syrian general named Al-Kuwakji to move away to make way for the "conquering Arab armies who will throw the Jews into the sea." Shouldn't believe everything you are told. Tough. No "right of return" -- a ridiculous concept on its face. Some mistakes are costlier than others. Some are irreparable. This one would fall into the latter category.
2. Hashomer Hatzair are settler youth too
Ilan ,   Ariel   (04.29.09)
Everyone shows a bit of spine when they realize that their homes are the ones that would be taken away for 'peace'.
3. nakba sameach!
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (04.29.09)
for arabs in israel, it is the best thing that has happened to them.
4. loyalty test
alexi   (04.29.09)
Many arabs(not the druse and some bedouin) go behyond normal free speech and incite. Punishment does not deter. They have to lose citizenship and sent packing. It s pointless. They and jews are like oil and water. Even if all the jews left israel, the so called palestinians who are artificial in name, would not set up a state since their only goal is to kill jews according to the Koran and kill anyone else like christians, druse to satisfy themselves. Contrary to Tamir, who taught the nakba and identified with the arabs, the arab curiculum needs jewish values to humanize palestinian society. Long term, it would be a miracle if the palstinians could ever be switzerland. They fight like cats and dogs with even their arab brethren. Lieberman is correct about inserting some type of test and if they fail, out they go. Ultimate hyocrites, they want to destroy Israel but collect israeli benefits just like Ehud Olmert hiding out in New York with his idf hating son and buying time with some meetings at sloan kettering so that he can pass a note to mazuz validating his request for postponement.
5. We don't want you here - that is a precise message..
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (04.29.09)
So, why dwell is the land where you are not wanted? Pack and leave. Have some honor.. Nothing ties you to the kand of the Jews. Not even the new foltale of pali people. Dwell happily and peacefully among your brothers in anyone of the 22 arab countries. It will be better for all of us. Just leave....
6. Hope everyone had a happy Nukba day.
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.29.09)
7. "Every man's right to live in original home"
William ,   Israel   (04.29.09)
Exactly where is that written? Other than being said ad nauseum by Arabs claiming they are this people called Palestinians. There are rights to life, food/water, education, free movement...I have yet to see a UN council endorse the right for every person to live in their original home.... But then again, it might be nice to get back my family's house in Hebron which we were forced from due to racist Arabs in 1929, or Gush Katif which was Jewish land before we ran for our lives in 1948....not to mention the thousands of homes dotted across Arab countries in which Jews were forced from.... While we're at it, why won't Pals return to their original homes in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Yemen, Albania, etc. from which they came almost 100 years ago? I'm willing to go back as far as the Pals want...but the same always remains true...Jews lived in the region and Arabs were always starting crap for which they continue to pay.
8. You started a war, you lost, now get lost!
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (04.29.09)
Maybe if the Arabs accepted the Patition Plan and accepted our peaceful hand to them, to live as peaceful neighbors - they wouldn't have had to go through this Nakba ordeal. But no. They preferred to wage war on us, "to throw us into the sea", and they lost big time. In all examples of history, losers are not entitled to anything! Show me a people who lost a war and the victor gave them anything... You wouldn't find any. Instead you'd find plenty of examples of people being massacred or forcefully displaced after losing a war, and the world didn't care. The Arabs were actually lucky to have us Jews as their opponents. Any other people would have shown much less mercy on them... Interestingly enough, today it was published that 94% of Israeli Arabs wish to continue living in Israel, the "racist", "oppressive", "Apartheid" state. How can you explain that? Maybe things aren't all bad over here?
9. Junky article, puke
(04.29.09)
Definition of Naqba: The day genocidal Arab states didn't succeed in destroying Israel.
10. "palestinians" are professional victims, moaners, groaners,
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (04.30.09)
complainers. They couldn't run a state if they had one. Fatah kills hamass members, hamass terrorists kill fatah members and they all blame Israel. They teach their children to hate Jews but expect Israel to give into all their demands. These people will never have a state of their own.
11. What are they talking about!!!!
Maria ,   MD   (04.30.09)
These Israeli Arabs and Modern Palestinians are one and the same.Ben Gurion told these Arabs in Israel to stay and live side by side with them, the first group of Arabs stayed, the second batch left. And now ,who's to blame?
12. Israel?
BLACK MAN ,   DIXIE   (04.30.09)
' living in a democratic state with all it's benefits' should make them grateful? You people have exalted yourselves above the Palestinian. Under what pretext even Ishmael was born first. The author has the aire of the Beneficient Saviour that I'm all too familiar with. You people are racists, the rhetoric you espouse is racists rhetoric.. The form is the same you can "cut" the accuser and " paste" the oppressed from any number of civil tensions. .Why are ya'll temptin that MAN? Why is the world listening to "back-sliding" Israel anyway? If the scriptures are true, you are likely leading in the wrong direction anyway! Nah we should not supoort Israel, you tend to reap HIS punishment bountifully.
13. Arabs are right!!
ariel ,   us   (04.30.09)
What is celebration for the Jews, is catastrophe for the Arabs. But no country can live with two conflicting narratives. Therefore, the Arabs should get out. Pilgrims in England, Jews in Russia and Iraq, Greeks in Turkey, Turks in Greece all voted with their feet. And it lead only to cessation of humiliation, discrimination and bloodshed. Now it is Arabs' turn. Pick up you pekelakh, move 20 miles, unfurl your flag and sing your anthem.
14. To the Naqba whiners: Go live in Jordan = Palestine
Rob ,   Boston USA   (04.30.09)
To all Arabs who whine and about living in Israel... just leave. Go to Jordan, the Palestinian state that already exists for you. We will all be happy to see you go. Build your Jordanian/Palestinian state with hard work and devotion, just as the Jews did in their homeland, Israel. Stop your whining, stop taking UN-EU handouts, stop being a bunch of cry babies. Grow up.
15. zionist legacy of the Palmach
avramele   (04.30.09)
the zionist left has always defended the homeland with deeds big and small often making the ultimate sacrifice... not with rhetoric, doing what must be done to protect and enhance our stake in this land...so that in the future a democratic compassionate Jewish society can arise. Rabin and Alon are smiling today.
16. the arab nation r the one
ghostq   (04.30.09)
who declaired war in 1948, and now they still cry about it, pfffffff they need to cry on their own lack of wisdom, after refuse the partition plan in 1947. so cry us a river. cause that is all you got left.
17. The choice was their: Accept UN 181 and establish a state or
Ruti ,   Kibbutz Dalia, Israe   (04.30.09)
initiate a war to extinct the very life of the Jewish state proclaimed based on 181. They opted the latter and now they complain...?? Also, it is important to remember the slogans used by the Arabs at the time, onces consisting of the calls to slaughter the Jews and to drawn the Jews in the sea. Time for reconciliation by recognizing Israel's right to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. The rest of the world has accepted Israel into the family of nations as the national home of the Jewish people. It is time the Arabs do the same.
18. Millions do not have "rights" in this world
Jo   (04.30.09)
Having a "right" and there being a true fair way is two separate things. War changes things (all over the globe) , and those who iniate war usually end up losing. If rights were dependant on how long one lived in a certain location, then they would lose. War forever changes things, and no matter how much they dream they are far better off living in the present. There is no such rights. Ask the many displaced peoples of the world.
19. #12 what an ignorant moron you are
margarett ,   LA   (04.30.09)
tis better to stay quiet and be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt....................idiot
20. fire the mayor!
Dana   (04.30.09)
Enough with governmental posts held by people who condemn the day Israel won its independence. We are paying them with our taxes so that they can go against us. Meanwhile, they are happy to take the money and opportunity ISRAEL provided for them.
21. he wants hid old home and hid new home as well
rowena israel   (04.30.09)
pretty funny how mayor of um el fahem tells jews that every person can claim his fathers house, since jews felt lucky to relinquish their property anywhere , BUT NOT THEIR LIFE, and came empty handed to palestine, but with a lot of good will. besides, people moved to um el fahem, they own a new property now. my parents moved 6 times in israel, so what? um el fahem and other arab town residents don't pay council taxes, they want everything to come from israeli jews, their water bills too, even though israel suffers a drought - they dont care. they relied on israel for everything since israel's establishment, because in 1948 it was a village that didn't even have a nurse, they were very poorly educated &had to go to the neighbouring villages for the basic necessities. the first doctor fom um el fahem studies in russia in 80s, and that first doctor is the head of an arab-israeli party. he too thinks arabs can't do much for themselves and it's israel's obligation to look after them, why? "because jews were educated in europe and knew what to do" that's his answer. nakba reminds these people that they are intitled to bleed the jews dry, because they have "occubied" them. if it wasn't so sad, it could be really amusing
22. A right to commemorate Nakba
Stewart Mills ,   Sydney, Australia   (06.05.09)
Jews, Arabs and anyone else have the right to commemorate the Nakba. The Nakba is well documented by Benny Morris (who ironically in his later years describes it was a necessity to expel Palestinian Arabs and that Ben-Gurion should have pushed for complete expulsion - Morris uses the repulsive term used at the time 'cleansing'). If Israel is to retain any of the beauty of Judaism i.e. love, justice and mercy then it will ensure people can remember the past and look to new ways that all people can learn to live as equal partners in peace on the land.
