2. message to no. 1
mordechai ,   jerusalem   (05.01.09)
The Rabbi assumed that his audience already knew not to call anyone they disagreed with a maniac. Perhaps it is better that you not return calls.
3. צודק לגמרי.
michal ,   israel, ashdod   (05.01.09)
4. As if we needed a proof
7.62mm   (05.01.09)
That rabinical Judaism is on its last leg. And are we paying for this "hohma"? Probably yes......
5. R Aviner
Clive ,   London   (05.01.09)
sounds like a Rabbi with to much time on his hands. Maybe he should take up golf. Better still give me his mobile number and I'll leave a message for him. He can then call me back and at least someone will be happy!
6. DUH!

Hmmm... Seems it does'nt matter really what the man says - put Rabbi in front of his name and he is automatically the subject of ridicule and bashing. He wrote an article for a specific audience of people who actually think it is important to try and behave as much as they can in line with Torah values and laws. It's not you - fine, he wasn't writing to you. I mean really, do you condemn a priest for his Sunday sermon asking his congregants to act kinder? And my goodness, all he was saying was be polite and treat others with respect and courtesy. What is so awful and fanatic about that? YNET published an article about another article meant for another audience completely. Seems to me this is suspect of trying to influence your thoughts against another sector of society more than recommending to return calls.
8. the beauty of the rabbis
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.01.09)
they can make the bible say most anything they want.
9. Number #7 is perfectly correct
Zion   (05.01.09)
If YNet actually respected Rabbis and Jewish scholars, they would print his article unedited, not abusing it in front of secular (most readers are laughing at him) newspaper.
10. #9 & 7 - These men are our "sages"
Steve   (05.01.09)
These Rabbis want us to respect them and their position and listen to them. Are you saying that we should ignore the dumb things they say as trivial and become indignant when it is reported? And who decides what is important or not? Maybe none of it is, maybe half, who knows? If these men are to be taken seriously, even their stupid remarks should be thoroughly examined.

Yeah that's good advice, returning a call... Did it take this Rabbi several sleepless nights rigorously examining different talmudic and rabbinic sources, reconciling contradictions, engaging in heated debates, shuckeling extensively and davening to Hakadosh Baruch Hu to remove the dark klipot of the yetzer hara and open his eyes to the light of Torah??? Everyone knows this and it is common sense. What I see in the fact that this was a publicly made statement is that common sense is not so common amongst frummies. You will find a ton of vile people, and the only thing they understand is to do or not do something because it's a mitzvah, it's a command, it's something you just have to do, not because it makes sense, but because God says so. Instead of teaching manners through obscure talmudic references maybe they could just have some normal social interaction and learn to think for themselves.
12. Ah yes
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (05.03.09)
Strangely, the Torah never mentioned the use of a telephone or any of the current electronic devices with which we communicate. Yet the rabbi finds something in the Talmud to use as a reference for his remarks. While we agree it is responsible to return messages, texting, et al; would it not be more responsible on the part of the rabbi to stick to more important topics. Seems to me, Torah mavens could do better than just offer basic common sense. Perhaps we expect too much from our Rabbis.
13. Religions are so OCD....
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (05.03.09)
...I like the way some even tell you how to put your shoes on! Or maybe they just want to interfere in every aspect of life.
14. What about viruses, trojan horses and
jason white ,   afula,israel   (05.03.09)
worms that can be sent to cell phones and of course computers? If you do not recognize the caller do not open the message. What about all the porn messages and ones asking for your personal information for some scheme?
