I did my research by praying about this issue and asking G_d to reveal to me the origin of the Magen David. This is what I got for an answer about six months after I prayed. As I was walking in the City of David on the Shabbat that falls during the Feast of Succot, I had to give way to the branches of a large tree that extended over a stone wall. On the branches of the tree were red fruits about the size of an apple. As I inspected the fruit I experienced one of those "stunned" moments in life when you really "see" something clearly. As I lifted the fruit up to me eye, there about 30 centimeters from my face was a perfect Magen David created by the sepals of the Rimon, the Pomegranate. The Magen David, the Shield of David, the Star of David is a design taken from one of the seven species that make the Land of Israel a Good Land. It is a G_d created design. In my work as a gardner in Israel for some years, I can testify that this perfect design is typical of the most typical variety of Pomegranate. The arrangement of the sepals of the fruit can exhibit other numbers of "star points." But again, my investigation shows that the most typical is the six point followed by the five point configuration, the five point star. So the Magen David is a naturally occurring design. We know that Satan is no creator of anything, he can only corrupt the good things of G_d. So you will have to realize that what this design means to YOU is really more revealing ABOUT YOU than the design itself.

Yeshua said NOTHING about this star! The star remphan was referred to by Stephen in Acts 7:43 and was called an idol. This had nothing to do with the Star of David! Although the menorah would have been a more logical symbol to have on the flag the reason its not is that the flag in its current form was the pre state Hagganah flag. it wasn't until when the state became a reality that the menorah was adopted as the national symbol. If the flag was created after the state itself was created it probably would be a menorah The Maggen David itself was adopted by diaspora jews and over the centuries in the diaspora at least people have mistakenly treated it as some kind of religious symbol. Israel was founded by diaspora jews so its only natural that diaspora symbols would have been adopted It would also be wrong to put GODS name on something as common and unholy as a flag which is waved from all over the world and not in a religious manner. GODS name should be for holy objects and objects treated as holy. Everybody knows and hates the Israeli flag in its current form so why change it. When it comes to Israel if its broke why fix it.

The book cited by Prof. Scholem entitled "Magen David- History of a Symbol" in the article is hard to find. I have searched for it on a number of search engines and can't seem to pull up any information specifically regarding the book.
