1. A prayer a day keeps the doctor away...
Humphrey ,   Haifa   (05.04.09)
haha, who needs enemies if one is being "guided" by those leftovers from a 18th century Polish shettel ... If it weren't for real it would be a laugh!
2. and the reasons for this decision are?
(05.04.09)
What is the real point here? after all the Health ministry has other very real problems so what are we doing here...creating another money wasting committee? Ahg!! remind me to say "thank you" when Mr. Netanyahu and his fellow politicians finally lift their foot off our backs!
3. An all volunteer committee would be fine
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (05.04.09)
So long as participation in the committee is strictly voluntary this would be fine. But if this is another way to grow the government with more salaries then it must be avoided at (pun intended) all costs.
4. Hypocritical, and not in a good way
5th generation ,   Israel   (05.04.09)
No-one ignores health and the Torah more than these bumbling polickers and their anti-kosher halacrap.
5. a welcomed commitee but state cannot base policy on findings
zionist forever   (05.04.09)
I welcome this investigation but at the same time the state must not impliment these laws simply it is believed that are halachicly correct. If organ donation is not allowed we can't just say to everybody sorry folks no replacements for you. If abortion is not allowed again it needs to be an option but at the same time schools need quality sex education lessons to try and avoid problems before they arise.
6. Orthodox Advise is just Plain Stupid
cas reader   (05.04.09)
When one involves Rabbis in Government decision-making, it leads only to disasters. Separation of State and Religion please.
7. The most immoral people want to discuss a moral question

8. You mean the situation re: organ non-donation in Israel...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.05.09)
...is going to get even worse? Israel needs to adopt the opt-out option.
9. Anti-religious slant
SL ,   New York   (05.05.09)
As usual, the YNet article contains an anti-religious slant. It is commendable that this MK will seek input from rabbis and Jewish ethicists on pressing issues, and that he seeks to learn perspectives from more than one source of Jewish law and ethics. Jewish tradition has grappled with issues like contagious disease (swine flu is new, but the bubonic plague etc was discussed in halachic responsa for centuries), and the best minds -- such as Maimonides -- offered ingenious solutions. Of course, the naysayers here on these posts will make snide comments.
10. Halachic responsa
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (05.07.09)
Halachic responsa is as valid as the doctors response that they do not have all the answers. At least the doctors are honest with that response. You wish to believe, enjoy yourself.
11. Life versus Death
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (05.07.09)
Abortion, just the topic for rabbis. The view of a man what is proper for a woman, typical of a male oriented religion. Judaism, Christianity and Islam; all male oriented, all using 50% of the population to fit their own narrow views. Actually, the female represents slightly more than 50%, they don't kill each other as much as the males. Organ donation !!! Problem when the rabbis forget that saving a life is more important than the theory that someday the Moschiach will come and the dead will be resurrected.(only if all their bodies are there) Some rabbis seem to accept only certain portions of the Torah while rejecting others. Maybe it's what fits into their POV at any specific time.

"Organ donation !!! Problem when the rabbis forget that saving a life is more important than the theory that someday the Moschiach will come and the dead will be resurrected.(only if all their bodies are there) " ---------------- Well, of course the proud family in the linked article found the solution was to use the organ of a non-Jew, and not to worry because that vile non-Jewish blood is quickly washed away.

Dorothy, have you ever been in a situation where an organ replacement was needed to save your life? Do you believe that those who are in that situation really care whether or not the donor was Jewish or the proper color? The answer is nobody cares other than hoping that your own body doesn't reject the donor's organ. Fortunately medicine today has produced many drugs to prevent rejection. Life is too precious to give up due to stupid prejudices as you have shown.
14. Dorothy , there are people ...

Who can't discern between receiving and giving .
