Let the pope state openly that the Jew has endured over 2000 years of hatred as a result of Christian lies that the Jew is forever responsible for the death of their god. By and large, Israeli rabbis are not fluent in languages other than Hebrew and Yiddish. They have no access to first-hand material and rely on hearsay. This necessarily blinkers their world-view considerably, most often without their even realising it. Overseas rabbis, by virtue of their ability to read at least one foreign language, and thus, if they need, to read and hear events first-hand, are able to take a much broader and balanced view and thus avoid making fools of themselves and demeaning their positions. This does not include people like Wolpe and his ilk, who is simply an attention-seeking ignoramus and extremist.

I am not really sure where you or the majority of people on Tb get the 2000 years: Christianity starts at year 1, the supposed year of the birth of Christ.., that was 2009 years ago. The first several hundred years Christians were persecuted by the Romans, they had no time to hassle the Jews, they tried to survive, right?- Romans....no relation to the Roman Catholic church, nor the Pope...( some people on TB keep getting this mixed up, oi veh...history 101!!!! ignorance is bliss)... the first crusade was in 1095 against the Muslims- Jews suffered- we agree- so that was after the first 1000 years- this leaves less than 1000 years- there was a lot of persecution of Jews (and others- Knights Templar, Cathars, Protestant sects etc. etc...) we know, we know... we apologize etc.. this is not the point here BUT: why the heck do you repeat this stupid and false figure? The modern Christian world does not hate the Jews- the modern Muslim world does- . If you lived on earth and kept in touch with what is going on- you would see this. The news in the States does not cover a lot of outside events- unless it pertains directly to State politic...when I lived there I felt like living on an island....
