23 Talkbacks for this article
1. Shameful. We're better than that.
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (05.13.09)
2. Waiting for PA courts to punish Palstinian thieves similarly
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (05.13.09)
This young criminal disgraces the IDF and Israeli society, and should be punished appropriately. And now, after all the usual Israel-haters in the talkbacks and the world media would be quick to point a blaming finger on Israel - let's look at the other side now. How many Palestinian thieves steal credit cards from Israeli citizens, costing us millions? How many of them steal our cars, raising our insurance premium prices? How about break-ins into our houses? And now - how many of these Palestinian thieves, are actually being put to trial in the PA courts, found guilty, and get punished? I think we all know the answer. So before smearing Israel for the wrongdoing of one bad soldier, I suggest to compare the crime statistics on both sides.
3. Israeli heros! Loot, hide in pal houses, write on walls!
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (05.13.09)
4. may the God of israel be appeased of this arrest
leah ,   israel   (05.13.09)
i remember how it was written on the bible when God commanded the jews not to steal or take anything from the enemy camp during a battle ..one or two jews(i cant remember) disobeyed God's command so He brought punishment to them..and im not sure if it was David..he asked God abt the punishemnt..and god told david that one or two of his men disobeyed His command..david then asked the guilty one to give back the stolen goods...history repeats itself!
5. He & his comrades palmed a credit card?
Cameron ,   USA   (05.13.09)
Oh the horror!! Passing mild stuff compared to the liquid garbage behavior taking place every week "in the service of Allah".
6. stolen credit card
nuni ,   US   (05.13.09)
To #2. It is wrong what that soldier did. But you are so right in what you have stated. Israelis are supposed to get stolen from, killed, everything goes. Rules that apply for others do not apply when it happens to them. But when they do anything. it is the worst thing. It must be very confusing growing up in a society like that. Makes them all nervous because it is unfair .
7. How many Israeli schools were looted
jason white ,   afula,israel   (05.13.09)
of tens of computers each by pali gangs? How many kibbutz and moshavim had tractors, livestock, watering systems and computer monitors stolen, sewing plants having machinery stolen and the list goes on. This all wound up in the liberated territories stolen by gangs of palestinians. I worked in a textile plant down in the Negev and we had pali workers from the Hebron area throwing rolls of fabric out the windows from the second floor to their friends outside the fence in the early eighties. The palis have been systematically looting Israel for years and it is known. What the soldiers did was wrong, but it was nothing compared to what the palis have stolen, are stealing and will steal.
8. #3 soooooo right
danE ,   London   (05.13.09)
definitely stealing of a credit card and writing on walls is much bigger a crime than the murder of a million Armenians
9. #1: Theft? Try mass murder.
James ,   Seattle, U.S.   (05.13.09)
No Sarah, you're really much worse than this.
10. Stupid talkbackers think it's OK to sink to this level
David ,   Los Angeles   (05.13.09)
Right, if Palestinians steal then it's OK for Israelis, if Syria tortures, then it's OK for the US, if my neighbor murders then it's OK for me to murder too. This is why Israel is going down the drain, because idiots like you people have lost sight of any kind of moral clarity, of the difference between right and wrong. All you're interested in is winning points for the Israel tribe.
11. #1: Apparently Not, based on the talkbacks
David ,   Los Angeles   (05.13.09)
12. Judge! he has admitted it, so what leniency you have
observer   (05.13.09)
less than a slap on the hand?
13. wait a minute!, he is Givati , his honor worth $388+
observer   (05.13.09)
the honorable credit goes to Haaretz who was the first to witness soldiers' testimony of barbarity and to Ynet who was first to witness the arrest of soldier thief. But, the greatest credit goes to the most moral army who was in Gaza in the first place.
14. David, poor reading comprehension
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (05.13.09)
Notice that almost every single talkback condemns this individuals actions and you better believe the 7.39 million other people that don't talkback will condemn him verbally as well. As a society with legal institutions, Israel will punish him. What they hate is people like you who single out an action like this of an individual as apply it to the whole society and say things like "idiots like you people have lost sight of any kind of moral clarity" EVEN AFTER THEY ACKNOWLEDGE WHAT THIS GUY DID WAS WRONG AND THAT HE SHOULD BE PUT TO JUSTICE!!!!!!!! Now, I agree with my earlier statement. It is unfair to use the representativeness heuristic and judge a complete society on several individuals. I dislike it when people do it with Arabs, Muslims, and Palestinians as well. It is generalizing which creates stereotypes which only leads to hate, fear, and blame. However, the reason why talkbackers on YNet feel so inclined to point out the wrongdoings of the other side and of other countries is for the numerous amount of people on here that believe Israel is the most evil "regime" in the world - when relatively....it really isn't.
15. #2 are you serious
David ,   Los Angeles   (05.13.09)
With the conditions we keep them in, were going to expext that they put someone in jail for theft. Until we fix what we have caused on these people, they will always dislike us.
16. Calm down, Saint David
Cameron ,   USA   (05.13.09)
Climb down off that ever so high "moral high-horse", and end the emotional drama screech about right vs. wrong. The cat swiped a flippin' credit card, not the baby's oxygen tank. Sheesh, get a sense of scale & proportion on the matter, brother.
17. To: James at No. 9
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (05.13.09)
No, we're not. We do not engage in mass murder. Every third-party that has investigated the Gaza operation has acknowledged that most of the deaths were Hamas terrorists. And, James -- how many innocent civilians died in the napalming of Vietnam? Laos? Cambodia? How many innocent civilians died in Nato's bombing in Bosnia and Serbia? And -- my personal favorite -- how many innocent civilians died in the Allied bombing in Dresden? Shut your mouth, get an education, and try and remember that Israel put up with missile attacks for eight years (have you noticed that they've largely stopped?) and suicide bombing for twenty years that have taken more lives than were lost in Gaza. Innocent civilian lives. Israel took out some terrorists. After September 11, you should know what terrorists are.
18. To: David at No. 11
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (05.13.09)
Just an excuse for all the anti-Semites and Israel-haters to crawl out from under their rocks. They'll crawl back. Perhaps I should remind them about recent theft of priceless artifacts from a church. The thieves were, after all, Arabs.
19. #15 I'm not surprised by a comment like that from La-la Land
Doron ,   Israel   (05.13.09)
Not only don't you have a clue what's happening here in Israel, but your also holding the Palestinians to another set of morals just because they're Palestinians. Isn't that racist?
20. #15 David again.....
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (05.13.09)
The four blind mice say: Arab aggression against the Jews is caused by the occupation. Arabs killed Jews on busses long before there was an occupation. The 4 blind mice have it wrong: Arab aggression is not the result of an occupation. Arab aggression caused Israel to take control of the territories. And to stay there, though most Israelis would prefer not to be. Have you such a narrow view of history?
21. James, mass murder?
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (05.13.09)
divide 1400/7,000,000,000 "Mass" murder is relative and definitive by the condition of the people murdered. Like Sarah pointed out, the THIRD PARTY investigators concluded that most of the killed people were combatants. it doesn't make any of their deaths or civilian deaths justified.....but using such rhetoric like "mass murder" is blurring the lines between myth and reality.
22. Palestinians want their land back not credit cards
(05.14.09)
23. the "brave" IDF soldiers !!
