1. there is a way!
Irit ,   Ramat hasharon   (05.14.09)
The best way is to allow the haredis to built more appartments for their sector. There is a severe shortage of apts for them. If they don't have their own areas, they spill over into ours.
2. So if the secular Jews want to win this imaginary war, they
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.13.09)
just have to stop having abortions and start having children. Once the secular Jews have more children per family than the religious Jews, the secular Jews can stop worrying about who will be in charge. Maybe the secular Jews could start a new community in the desert and only let in people with no children and who have been sterilized. That would solve their fear of religious Jews asking them to put on tefillin or keep kosher or keep Shabbos or any of these other "Jewish" things they detest so much.
3. I have an idea
Allon ,   London   (05.13.09)
They should try a Shabbat at the Chabad House. Best of luck to the frummers trying to spark up this secular fridge-freezer.
4. No factual substance in this article.
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (05.13.09)
This article fails to: A) elaborate on the perceived orthodox takeover B) Explain any preventative measures the secular community is taking. C) it lays down a quote with absolutely no source D) mentions demographics without numbers or statistics found by a reliable source IF ANYTHING, this article is a scare tactic to make people believe tensions are rising between the religious and secular community.
5. Irit
Jane   (05.14.09)
You nauseate me. It is because of attitudes like yours that Israel was once destroyed. Please note, I am not orthodox. But you might want to consider the fact that were it not for those who held tight to Torah, you would never have been born. Shame on you. Gol nefesh.
6. let the north tel avivi live in their getto for rich
dovdevan ,   paris ,france   (05.14.09)
and secular people ! i'm not astonished about what i can hear about racism in ISRAEL ! when it's not against an ethiopian or an arab or a mizrahi it's against a haredi ! and we are talking about people that like to be seen as tolerant secular liberal but when it comes to live with those people they behave as racistthank you for the job they are doing in all those countries where Israelis fall in hell !
7. dovdevan and others
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.14.09)
Try to buy something in charidi places , Elad , part of Beth Shemesh , and so , when you are secular . Did'nt you see announcements by promotors : for religious people ?
8. When I saw "Hate goes Viral"
family and friends ,   Givatayim   (05.14.09)
I thought it was the translation of THIS boring article that has been poluting hebrew ynet columns... The dirtiest dreariest makolet I've ever seen was dafka quite a few years ago when I unfortunately found myself in this over hyped ramataviv area. I haven't forgotten it as I couldn't believe it. Some excellent talkbacks in English on the hebrew of this uber hysterical article. We're not chareidiot but love shopping in B Brak (gorgeous selection of gifts pre pesach etc)and adore Chabad activities. Chabad means simcha and smiles. U need to get a life, lady. THAT'S your problem, not bneibrak/chabad.
9. Face the facts!!
Orthodox Jew ,   Israel   (05.14.09)
In the US only the Orthodox will still be Jewish in a couple of generations, and in Israel the religious will probably be the majority in a few generations. In the Galut assimilation, intermarriage, and low birth rates kill off the Jews, and in Israel the seculars' low birth rate will finish them off too. Number 2, Bunnie, is right: whoever wants to stay in control has to have more children!
10. takeover
TOMAS ,   tel aviv-north   (05.14.09)
Why should I let the religeous airheads into my qurters?! It's ALWAYS their kind, that ends up "cleaning" areas of infidels like me: you see, I don't care if you attend a synagouge , a mosque or a church-but THEY always care if I eat pork /drive on Shabbos! So shut up&let the "observant" raise communities in the bloody desert AND multiply to their heart's desire. Let us make a stand against organized religious freaks! Check out Pat Condell on the YouTube, you owe it to yourselves!
11. #2 Bunnie Meyer your hypocracy knows no limits
Avi ,   israel   (05.14.09)
Bunnie Meyer who sits in the holy city of LA dishing out the advise to those of us who actually live in Israel. Must be quite a challenge for you with your so called religious values all those nasty secular people walking around eating cheese and ham sandwiches and showing their ankles. You fan the flames of hatred between secular and religious people, yet you yourself can not even commit to making aliah and choose LA of Jerusalem. What is secular people moved in to Bnei Brak, would you be there with the welcoming commitee. The fact of the issue is , is that secular and ultra orthadox do not mix. I do not want these people coming in to my neighborhood closing roads, telling us what we can eat and when, when we can drive our cars , causing riots and violent protests which seems to be their signature trademark these days.

13. TRUE COLORS
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (05.14.09)
No surprise here, from our humanistic liberal elite. They just prove like I have written many times before, that their whole liberal Hellenist movement is just a front, to cover up their stench of sewage values. Their true colors are of a self hating fascist, intolerant, egoistic and racist values, all nicely packaged in their false Humanism. With the support of our equally distorted media , they are the ones polluting our land in every way possible, hating Judaism with a passion. Being what they truly are, demographic change will not happen, because the writer and her fellow Hellenists have lost their blessings a long time ago. Their era of deceive and untruths, creating a Hellenist society lacking any decency, is coming to an end. Every dirty trick they will come up next, will only hasten their well deserved demise. I have had the privilege to have some of their children around my Shabbat table, having found their way back to their real roots and being better of for it. One by one they will keep on coming back, because you can only deceive so long and pretend to be a mensch. .
14. Avi, you could live with the "palestinians" if you dislike
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.14.09)
the religious so much. Try to ignore the blaring horn five times a day. Try to ignore you won't be able to buy ham let alone put it in a sandwich with cheese. Don't worry about closed roads, no cars and no gas for sale. Enjoy,.
15. Taking care of the land of Israel
Airborne ,   Jerusalem   (05.14.09)
Haredim do bring property values down and lower the character of neighborhoods. Just look at how dirty Jerusalem is or road Bar-Ilan. You don't see the same in North Tel Aviv or Herzylia. Is there something wrong with wanting a clean living environment? Haredim have no idea what a trash can is nor care. Trash, the burning of, violent protests and secret moral societies are just the beginning. If the Haredim preach so much about taking care of the land of Israel then let's see them start in their neighborhoods first and we'll go from there. I would much rather see a National Religous family move in next door then a Haredi. At least they do care for the land of Israel!
16. who talk about Arabs or Ethiopians???
someone   (05.14.09)
the campaign was merely about the Orthodox, and i don't think that it comes from hatred, the Orthodox are not a kind of neighbors that respect you, they will start demanding the closure of entire streets on Shabbat, preventing loud music etc. this will eventually cause the fall of the apartments value also, i think that this is a bias article
17. what happens in a reverse situation?
Shachar ,   Eilat   (05.14.09)
What would happen if a group of secular people bought up houses in Bnei Brak and then started convincing Haredi youth to cut off their payot and become secular???
18. Demography and ideology
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (05.14.09)
1) Goverment is not alloting neighbourhoods nor building permits to fit hareidim's rapidly growing housing needs 2) lets face it: an average of 6-7 kids /family quite out numbers 2-3 kids per hiloni family, not to mention they all marry out and at a much younger age. Go figure. 3) Tel avivians should consider themselves lucky that it is open minded, broadely loved Habadnickim and not Toldos Aharon settling there. 4) Tele Avivians should be gratful and thankful to these HAbadnikim to finally give them that sought after opportunity to display the tolerance for the "differnt" one they so much preach they champion all day long. Tel Avivians preach that religious groups are self serving, enclosed in ghettos, and have even no right to tell others in their own cities and neighbourhoods what to think and do. Well here hareidim are coming out of the ghetto, show us how Really opened minded you are, how really no racist you are, how really well everyone is entitled to the freedom of choosing HIS place of living and what TO DO. AM I wrong?
19. David , # 13 you pretend to be a "mensch" ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.14.09)
You did'nt show much of this in your writing . Having some on your Shabbat table : you do it because this is a "mitzwa" for you , and hope to be "rewarded" later . Found their way back .....to darkness and , as i read you : to hate
20. As far as I am concerned...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel -Aviv, Israel   (05.14.09)
...anyone who wants to can move into my neighborhood, as long as they don't try to impose their beliefs on me by bothering people who are not dressed to their tastes, insist that traffic be rerouted for their benefit, and take too much of an interest in what I have for dinner.
21. A common misconception the prices usually go up
Jabadini ,   Melbourne   (05.14.09)
I lived in Jerusalem for a decade and have seen the prices going up in every area the Ultra-Orthodox move into. Examples would include Ramat Eshkol and an older one Harnof. The next place seems to be Ramot.
22. i think
mondi ,   jerualem   (05.14.09)
true secular can live near religouse but religouse like to be separated from seculars . so iam confused if the complain is from the seculars only if they are radicals not seculars
23. NR 19 CHARLES
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (05.14.09)
For someone pretending to be so smart, you realy are a hatefull miserable cranky person. You hate the religious because you hate G'd. Darkness is something you whorship, all you can do is put down people. Why the heck did you come and live here? There are enough selfhating suckers already here. You pretend to be so modern but in the end you are just a plain old bigot full of hatred and intolerance.Maybey you should try to do a mitsvah, but knowing you, even writing this is a waste. You are the classic example of someone with the mind of "Esau". Unfotunally you will have to look in the Torah to see what that means.
24. David from Judea - you are plain wrong
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (05.15.09)
First of all, there is no such place called Judea. The sinat chinam that separated Yisrael from Yehuda should never be repeated again. Secondly, you are a hypocrite. Yael Mishaeli is a lesbian leftist. Yet, she stuck to her principles of equality when writing this piece in defense of the Chabad. Finally, Charles is not a worshipper of the dark. You have to recognize the logic in atheism if you want to be a good Jew. Otherwie you are a Jew without logic. and stop writing in caps, its annoying. (I remember a speech by RMK where he lamented that the people who joined JDL and K where there only because they liked to hit. "The jewish hand needs to be connected to the jewish head, "he would say. David, you remind me of that speech)
25. David , again your hate
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.15.09)
Sad to have such people calling themselve JEWS . I know others , religious , but not only by books but with their heart . They at least follow the Torah and "ve'ahavta et re'echa kamocha"
26. Jabadini ,
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.15.09)
That's true for some neiborhoods where prices are maybe low . Prices go always down when there is an "invasion" [ sorry , i did'nt find another word ] of not so "accepted" people . That's so all over the world , look only at the European neigborhoods whare immigrants come in vast quantities
27. NR 24 BESALEL
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (05.15.09)
Ignorance is bliss, you write about being a good Jew while being in the Galuth. The Tenach is full of reverences of Judea, but that is probally beyond you. You are plain wrong mister couch Zionist.
28. NR 25 CHARLES
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (05.15.09)
Calling the cattle black, I have not once seen you applying that principle yourself. But you being an enlightend liberal, you can have double standards and are above anyone else. So you have the right to crap on the religious whenever you feel like.
29. David , are you blind ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.15.09)
How many times did'nt i talk about the great actions of some Charidim ? But i , as a secular , have'nt to obey "ve'ahavta ......" YOU HAVE ! And i do it . There are Religious who deserve my greatest respect , sad to say , you , a hatefull , are NOT amongst them
30. Besalel 24
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.15.09)
In what is being lesbian related to this subject ? If she thinks that there is a campaign of hatred , she may express it , and being lesbian is irrelevant . Now , i prefer a person living in Judea , with whom i completely disagree , to someone i don't like neither , and who lives in NY
