In an ideal world, we could make peace with the Palestinians tomorrow and this whole issue would be finished. In reality this simply isn't possible. Unless the terrorism stops, and the Palestinians renounce violence and recognise Israel's right to exist, there cannot be peace or a 2 state solution. As Prime Minister, it is Netanyahu's job to first and foremost keep the people of Israel safe. If he allows Obama to pressure him into accepting the 2 state 'solution', the consequences will be deadly.

You are right of course; terror, violence, and rejectionism are serious obstacles to peace, and without overcoming them, the two state solution will not last. But like in every conflict, this one has more than one side. Until the Israeli "towns", "outposts", "settlements" - or whatever other euphemism you prefer to use for the Jewish colonies in the West Bank - are dismantled from the formerly Arab land upon which they are built, what reason do the Palestinians have to abandon the aforementioned tactics? Until Israel makes a formal commitment of some kind to working towards a two state solution, what reason do the Palestinians have to recognise it? Until we lift the checkpoints that have turned their territories into dozens of isolated districts, what incentive do they have to change tactics? We need to recognise - in more than just mere rhetoric - that the Palestinians are a legitimate people, with legitimate national rights and territorial claims, and then move forward in our negotiations. The solution you present would have them renounce their only bargaining chips, immoral and repugnant as those might be, and then hope that Israel's goodwill will result in a Palestinian state. Clearly, that is not a reasonable assumption. We can come to a compromise, where the demands of both sides are met. Terror can end - but so must the colonization of Palestinian land. Violence can be renounced - but so must the Israeli military presence in Palestinian land. The Palestinians may recognize our right to exist - but we, too, must recognize the right of Palestine to exist. Negotiations are a two way street, we cannot be so arrogant or condescending so as to demand that they submit to all our demands while we offer them nothing in return.
