Not suprising the difference between one in uniform who sits behind a desk pontificating about the letter of the law and the soldier who is actually on the field and in battle with a relentless enemy. Its often this that kills an army. I am sure many US soldiers in Iraq got killed coz of fear of repurcussions by Jag. The wisdom is to have a balance between the two and realise no law printed on paper can cover every situation on the battlefield. The enemy of course are not shackled by any laws whatsoever and they know it thats why they can hind behind woman skirts when it suits them. WW2 lasted far less then the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Israel for that matter and now you know why. Modern warfare does not allow vanquishing ones enemies. The UN and ICC of the Hague ensures that. The enemy keeps rising up again and again never vanquished. So war continues on and on for many years. In the end incurring a greater loss of life especially amongst civilians. But this is the 'Liberal' mindset we are plagued by in the world today. Interestingly not so with the current government of Sri Lanka they had the resolve the end their war once and for all and ignored cries of ceasefire by the enemy and international community and persued their enemy down to the last one without stopping. Thats why their war finally ended. And yes no suprise the UN now wants to investigate Sri Lanka for "war crimes". I wonder why? Because they vanquished theyre enemy. Let me get this straight...to see if I understand it. Military Advocate General Brigadier-General Avi Mandelblit warned IDF soldiers Thursday against employing ANY kind of violence against Palestinians during their operations in the Palestinian territories. Lets say, this is carried out to the letter, no violence is used, now all Hamas and others have to do is ratch up the provocation until violence is the only course of action, then the militants can claim, see it is true all long with what we been saying, Israel is the aggressors. It is a policy that only encourges violence when timely show of force can stand down or minimize the over all need to act deceively. What this policy will do is actively encourge the palestinian youth to become more openly biligent for another round of the infada. Where as before the possibility of violence likely forced palestinians to weigh their choices, on whether to become involved or to attempt to remove themselves from the area to advoid becoming a collaterial statistics when the idf is in active operations against militant activities. Now, all Mandelblit has done is signal to hamas and other militant groups to rally the women and children on to the streets and wait for the outcome to delivery a political mess that takes on a life of its own.

the IDF is not 'Peace Now'. It is not the International Solidarity Movement. The IDF is a military force. There is no such thing as a non-violent military. Terrorists are using violence all the time and it is only reasonable that IDF soldiers will use force to arrest terrorists.
