4. Wrong headline
Dovid ,   Modiin   (05.24.09)
Headline Should read: First African-American christian woman to be ordained as rabbi at Conservative and Reform temple/
5. do hamite women converts have to preach American soldiers
observer   (05.24.09)
18 American soldiers with proven swine flu reached Kuwait yesterday. Most probably those soldiers had also a temporary station in Israel for entertainment.
6. Listen, "Dovid", its time to stop living in the past
Chaim   (05.24.09)
The world has changed, and Judaism along with it.
7. Black or White Reform : Jewus loves you !
Michael ,   Jerusalem   (05.24.09)
Congratulations lady ! Jewus loves you ! Reform Judaism is Judaism with a bit of christianity "po" ve "cham" to be more attractive and less difficult ! Make a little more reform and you will get the 1st prize, NO OBLIGATION AT ALL, live your life as you wish ! to the Reform Jews : You deserve the baal peor honour and nothing more !
8. #4 even, born Jew would never be accepted
observer   (05.24.09)
Jews never accepted Jesus even when he named them brood of vampires, because they looked back and didn't find tails. Even, Moses says, whoever is born even from holy patriarchs and from Abraham himself stands condemned before God and must not boast before him. St. Paul says the same thing in Romans 3:27, as does John 3:6.
9. Total
yosef   (05.24.09)
Goy - reform conservative conversion - total goy
10. not just yet
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (05.24.09)
B"H - Stanton: "Ten years ago, if someone said I was going to be a rabbi, I would have laughed" - ABY: Stanton, for Jews and for Judaism you are not going to be a rabbi. You are not even a Jew yet. You may be taking the post of a so-called rabbi in a so-called "Jewish" congregation that does not follow halacha, Jewish Law.
11. #8 go put your negativity somewhere else
rachel ,   usa   (05.24.09)
you must be the most hateful and miserable person in the world .
12. A rose by any other name
Adam ,   Raanana   (05.24.09)
Is still a rose. This woman is not Jewish, nor is she a Rabbi. They can play the race card all they want. As a woman she cannot be a rabbi and as a non-orthodox convert, she is not a Jew. End of story.
13. #8 - Sad strange little man
AY_Lamb ,   USA   (05.24.09)
14. A female rabbi is an oxymoron like military intelligence.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.24.09)
15. Chaim and others
moriah ,   sacrament,usa   (05.24.09)
"The world has changed, and Judaism along with it. " The Torah hasn't changed. This is the problem with your self-important "progressive" thinking. You think you can change the word of G-d -- YOU a simple little Jew! The Torah is forever. Whether some are happy with it or refuse to accept it. Reform Jews also see no problem with marrying non-Jews... What does Torah say about that?
16. There's no doubtin' about it
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.24.09)
Prayer and good felt wishes along with congratulations
17. Adam , you are right
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.24.09)
A rose is still a rose , even if her new name is given by an Orthodox Rabbinate . A convert , Orthodox , can become a follower of the Jewish faith , but to become Jewish , needs some generations before to belong to the Jewish People .
18. Why Charles, why not put them in a vase.
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.24.09)
19. It appears Adam and Charles need a vase
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.24.09)
So to not make an entire mess of their lobby.
20. well done
pilpelet ,   israel   (05.24.09)
im sure you being african amerecan and jewish has given you a rather thick skin so dont think youll be put off by people that can only live there lives by one set of rules . anything and anyone that makes religion more acceptable enjoyable and family orintated is good news well done
21. מזל טוב
Zvi   (05.25.09)
Congratulations, welcome to the tribe, all the best to you and your congregation
22. #10 & others: lashon hara isn't helpful
Zvi   (05.25.09)
If you really want to help, reach out and help her to learn more about the religion, because she's going to be a leader who will make a difference in the lives of her congregation, whether you like it or not. If you have nothing constructive to say, it would be better to say nothing, rather than to commit lashon hara.
23. #8: you spend SO much time on Israeli talkback board
Zvi   (05.25.09)
and yet your comments here are simply poisonous attacks on Jews. Get a life, sir.
24. Welcome to the tribe, Alysa!
Sarah ,   New York CIty, USA   (05.25.09)
We are very glad to have you!
25. Torah and judiasm don't change with the times
Shira ,   NY B"H YERUSHALAYIM   (05.25.09)
if torah and judiasm were to change with the times, we wouldn't be here
26. Shvartzeh Rabbi
Madai ,   MI. / USA   (05.25.09)
I wanted to add my voice to Dovid (#4), Michael (7), Yosef (#9), ABY (10), & Adam (#12). For Pilpelet #20, if you said: "anything and anyone that makes religion more acceptable enjoyable and family orintated is good news well done"...Go, it's now Kosher to eat ham, mix cheese with meat, drive on Saturdays, enjoy having a boyfriend (but only 4 times of sex are allowed before marriage)..but Hey! don't forget to vote for me as the BEST Rabbi.
27. To Alysa
RW   (05.25.09)
I am sure that you are a very intelligent woman. Convert Orthodox and become a real Jew, not a watered-down version.
28. #11,13,23 why angry? isn't she righteous?
observer   (05.25.09)
29. ooo.... exciting! diversity!
Ran   (05.26.09)
this is so wonderful, don't you just looooooove diversity? it's destroying western civilisation but sh... don't mention it, it's not pc to do so.
30. So Judaism doesn't change......yeah - right
Zeev   (05.26.09)
Moses' Tzipporah could not have been a Jew according to some - there was no Orthodox conversion. Nor could she accepted, she was black skinned. Oh - Moses existed before beit din was invented - yes Judaism doesn't change... Hillel didn't reject a Torah mitzvah with his prozbul - oh - he is an exception. Charging interest is okay - Torah says it is not - oh - Judaism doesn't change. Orthodox wants to be Judaism, instead it has become for most an excuse to be self-righteous, bigoted and those who know it all. Keep changing, and pretending that you don't, and then be rude to those who are more honest about Judaism and change, and allow Judaism to thrive in the world of today, while others hold it back to the world of yesterday. Maybe this is a healthy balance. Thank you both
