INCognito ,   LOL   (05.27.09)
Can anyone tell me where in the Torah he got 16.6%? Did I miss % sign because it looks a little like letter aleph and so it has been successfully hidden?
2. Send in the clowns
Avi ,   Isarel   (05.27.09)
Well you can always rely on Shas to further divide the jewish nation . Maybe instead of telling their cult followers to blacklist secular jews they should be telling them to build bridges as a divided nation is a weak nation. So therefore as a secular employer shold i fire my charadie workers and advertise for seculars only?
3. Not A Good Idea
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.27.09)

Eshkol Hakofer   (05.27.09)

I don't have to deal with these clowens, they will find many ways to reap someone off.
7. 16%
Jon ,   Petah Tikvah   (05.27.09)
for anyone wondering where the 16% came from - in jewish law, a price is considered a ripoff (and therefore the sale invalid) if the price is 1/6 above the normal asking price. 1/6 is 16.66%

12. "Rabbi Yaakov Yosef ruled"??!! Who is he?
Talula ,   Israel   (05.27.09)
The man is on a power-trip. And for what? Who EXACTLY is this man to try and ruin another man's business because he's not a religious Jew? Thank god the country is more secular than other. He's a Moron who thinks he can make it rain...........well go on then, we're watching...
13. Look at History , 75 years ago
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.27.09)
It reminds me of something similar that happened in the 30's of last century in nazi germany .
14. Support the G-d fearing first
Adi Cohen ,   Raanana   (05.27.09)
I agree a G-d fearing person (didnt say religious) because sometimes it is difficult to define, gets my first and full support
15. Exactly...
Bob ,   NYC, USA   (05.27.09)
Do we really need to go down this path? I understand if it is due to keeping kosher dietary laws, but seriously? As a non-Jew, should I then only sell to non-Jews and refuse Jewish customers and vendors, etc.? Are we really reverting back to this? I don't care if someone is Jewish or not. Jews and non-Jews are both PEOPLE. The more this occurs in Jewish culture I'm afraid it will eventually spill into the non-Jewish community. And at that point could you really call it anti-Semitic or simple quid-pro-quo?
16. Stop frothing, talkbackers
Naftush ,   Israel   (05.27.09)
The rabbi's remarks appeared in a hate sheet that is read by persons of like mind. His "rulings" carry no authority beyond thiat.
17. Too bad...
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (05.27.09)
this Rabbi doesn't see the similarity between his "it is our duty to buy from" and that "do not buy from" of some other people, the latter of which led to Nov. 8, l938, aka Kristallnacht and was part and parcel of the horrors that followed. To hear that sort of thing from one Jew towards another is mind-boggling.
18. 3 Jews for Jesus applauds you
(05.27.09)
Halakha rules born Jews remain Jews even when they're Jews for Jesus.
19. to 18 , now you accept Halachah ?
(05.27.09)
Otherwise only the Torah . Poor true goy , that's what you are
20. 19- what 18 accepts or doesn't has nothing to do with it
(05.27.09)
21. to Avi #2
Ezra ,   Canada   (05.27.09)
The cult followers of the Shas spiritual leadership are called Sephardim. We are about 2 millions worldwide and still growing in numbers. I am not a specialist of rabbi Ovadyah Yossef family, but I think this son is now a follower of another cult called Habad. Sefardim, Habadnikim and followers of many other cults form altogether something called Judaism. If you need more basic information on the subject, I recommend you this link for beginners : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaism
22. to still more
david Fakheri ,   Los angles   (05.27.09)
Increasing the religious stores MENS a way to still all the money & NOT a Parcial of what they used to make out of the INCOMES of the religious stores'!!! Daveed
23. #18 He didn't mean you
Stan ,   USA   (05.27.09)
Hopefully Israel will finally deport those pretending to be Jewish for the sole purpose of promoting Christianity. Just because you've fool ignorant children who don't understand their own religion does not equal any acceptance whatsoever of these sick beliefs.
24. Not as bad as it sounds
(05.28.09)
Rabbi Yosef said we should prefer dealing with religious Jews, not that we have to. Its reasonable to do business with stores you have a higher level of confidence in the character of the managment. Many people will shop in one store versus another if you avoid crossing the street or any other silly reason- this one makes as much sense as many other reasons.
25. It sounds bad, but it REALLY makes sense, doesn't it?
L ,   Elad, Israel   (05.28.09)
Let's say (for all of the environmentalists or lefties out there) there were two stores side by side ("all things being even"), as the Rabbi posits. One of the stores is very pro-Green and environmentally friendly/eco-conscious and the other is either simply not or are active polluters (or substitute your cause-of-choice: pro animal-testing, pro-affirmative action, regular donators to such-and-such, etc). Obviously, you would probably "prefer", or favor, the store that supports a similar value system as your own, you would probably choose to "reward" them with your patronage. However, as the Rabbi points out, if there are two stores and the one supporting your cause is significantly more expensive or one is much further away, it is not hypocritical to shop in the other store however counter they are to your political/moral place in the world (then personal interest - e.g. saving money- would supersede). There actually ARE many organizations (environmental, or even fellow members of the same school/lodge, etc) that publish lists of like-minded or fellow-member's stores to patronize. They are not suggesting a boycott of other stores, or invoking violence against them (for all the nudniks who invoked the Kristalnacht allusion, etc) -- they are merely suggesting that "all things being even" (or close) that you "prefer" those who share a common value as yourself. Think of it from your own personal slant and suddenly (if you put aside the typical Haredi-bashing Ynet article that loves to incite) it sounds a little more reasonable.
26. 12. Tulala, He is a very highly thought of Rabbi
S Judah ,   london   (05.28.09)
And what is wrong in what he says? If for instance you were interested in Kashrut in its widest sense, which would you choose? All things being equal, the store run by an observant Jew. it's obvious, it's not rocket science and it's what happens in practice.
27. L. Elad
charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.28.09)
Knowing where you live tells me what you are . Then of course it makes sense for you . Would it also make sense for you if a secular leader told us not to buy at charidi shops ? No , you would shout , throw stones , insult those "goyim" who don't want to spend their money in your shops . חג שמח
28. rabbi yosef
a ash ,   newark nj.usa   (05.28.09)
so i guess the idea of tikun olam -and being a light unto the nations and trying to show people how beautiful being religious is out of love fell by the wayside.--what a disgrace
29. Laughable
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (05.28.09)
The rabbi has nothing better to do than open his mouth and whatever comes out ... There is no debating poseks. Those of you who agree with the rebbunim will continue to agree regardless of what inanity flows from their tongues. Those who disagree will continue to disagree because stupidity sickens them especially when it comes from someone who is supposed to be learned in Judaism.
30. by extension hen he wants me to boycott religious owned ones
