Hi - It was good to see that religious women are still finding an outlet to express themselves within the framework of "kol isha". HOWEVER, the group called, "Ashira" is actually NOT Israel's first religious rock band. Back in December of 1980, a religious woman named YONA YACABOVITZ (then Saslow) gave birth to Israel first religious rock band. I am one of the founding members. The name of the band is "TOFA''AH". Still functioning, and with 8 or 10 recordings behind us, TOFA'AH can be found at: www.tofaah.com. Tofa'ah had a profound influence on women's creativity within the religious framework of "Kol Isha", and made a huge impact on Israel's religious community at large. The first VINYL LP recording can be found in the archives of Hebrew University. Tofa'ah made numerous television appearances and radio interviews which we have in our own archives and can no doubt be found without much difficulty. Please take the time to find out more about YONA and TOFA'AH, and the women who have helped make "Ashira's" existence easier. Find out what we are all doing now. Learn all about women and music. First of all your title is SO incorrect - Tofa'ah is the first - and only quality - women's rock band, in fact the first women's band in the religious world. After 28 years, they still ROCK.
