1. Assad cant afford to pay for the MIGS he wants so bad
zionist forever   (05.24.09)
Assad will get his MIG 29s but the MIG 31 thats unlikely. Even if he gets the MIG 31 Israel is more than capable of dealing with it. It also doesn't have the superior Israeli avionics or munitions. The export version of MIG 31 is also inferior to the Russian domestic version so what the Russians won't be what Syria gets. Most importantly Syrian pilots don't know how how to fly only take off and eject. They would have a better chance at actual flying if they just flapped their wings rather than use MIG 31. Israeli pilots are also some of the best in the world and at the end of the day a plane is a tool and its only as good as its pilot.
2. Mig 31 deal and Syria ?

Maybe, but truth was never something you would associate with Syria

The real reason Russia reversed its position on the sale? Lieberman gently hinted to Lavrov that is would be an extreme embarrassment to Russia for such expensive hardware to be rendered by the IDF as scrap metal on the runway in Syria shortly after delivery.

In the 1967 Six-Day War, the Israel Navy, under the command of Rear Admiral Shlomo Erel, was meager in the extreme; it failed in every mission assigned to it. Fighters of the Naval Commando (Shayetet 13) and other naval forces sent to attack three ports in Syria failed to execute their missions. Another naval command force succeeded in infiltrating the harbor of Port Said but was unable to locate its designated targets. Yet another raid by the Naval Commando unit, this time in the harbor of Alexandria, ended in abject failure, with six of the commandos taken prisoner. Hezbollah fired a missile at the INS Hanit, an Israeli Sa'ar 5-class missile cruiser. The missile was apparently a radar guided C-802 anti-ship missile. Four sailors were killed and the warship was severely damaged and towed back to Haifa.
