1. We De-Settled Gaza...
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.25.09)
and it brought us no closer to peace with anyone. Did we get any "credit" for removing the Jews from Gaza. No. None. This proves that "settlements" are not the issue. The issue is hateful Arab anti-Jewism.
2. No free lunches, except for palesttinian Arabs.
dmgold ,   Pardes Channa Israel   (05.25.09)
The palis have shown that honesty, obligation and adherance dont pay dividends. What they have shown is contempt, dishonesty and saying one thing in English while saying slaughter the Jews in Arabic pays big time. Its time for the Jews of Israel to realise that this rumble is no longer about human rights and doing right by international agreements that mean little to all of the other players in this game. Obama also has to gain Israels trust it is not a given.

4. STOP WITH THE RUBBISH
Charles   (05.25.09)
FOR GOD'S SAKE, LETS TAKE EVERYTHING IN PROPORTION! 1. THE ARABS DO NOT RECOGNIZE ISRAEL. WHY RECOGNIZE THEIR NEED FOR A STATE WHICH WILL ONLY BE ANOTHER ENEMY TO ISRAEL? 2. WE DISMANTLED THE ENTIRE SETTLEMENT ENTERPRIZE OF GAZA. WHAT DID WE GET? TERRORISM. IF WE DISMANTLE ANYTHING IN THE WEST BANK, THE ARABS WILL FEEL STRONG & TRY TO MURDER US EVEN MORE. 3. HOW ARE SETTLEMETS AN OBSTACLE TO PEACE. BEFORE THERE WAS EVEN 1 SETTLEMENT THERE WAS NO PEACE. THE PLO WAS FORMED IN 1964, BEFORE 1967. THEY WERE CREATED TO LIBERATE PALESTINE.
5. Did dismanteling Gaza get anything except Kassams and Lead

6. the point should have been
Ari   (05.25.09)
what will we get for removing settlements? the answer should be the right of return 'revoked'. settlements will not be removed and will continue to grow until the right of return ends and, implicit in that, that the end goal of peace negotiations is an end to the conflict, and not an end to the state of israel. that should have been the exchage with obama.
7. Israel's Jews face a choice
Steve   (05.25.09)
Do we want to be a banana republic or do we want to be a nation of free and independent Jews who walk upright, not bowing down to every 'Hussein' who reaches the White House. It might take a little sacrifice in the beginning; some effort and courage to become self-sufficient but with God's help it can be done. Israel is supposed to the the head and not the tail; she is supposed to lend to nations and not borrow... Well?
8. Hu lo ohev HaYahudim!
Gideon Reader   (05.25.09)
ZerObama is blatantly hostile towards a democratic(i.e., NOT socialist) america, and overtly hostile towards israel. Expecting anything of a helpful or positive nature from thai bit of American political jetsom is foolhardy. ZerObama is as much a polititurd as Jimmy Carter levened with a massive dose of James a. Baker III. His exposure and aligence is to the teachings of pastor Wright and Minister Farakan.
9. no free lunches

Barnea's good friend, Olmert, told the high court that he needs an operation or consultation in the US urgently so that his indictment hearing should be postponed. The high court agreed to his proposal knowing that Olmert would be indicted and that he is suspected of major white collar crimes for which jail would be prescribed. So Ehud goes to the US,sets up his speakers arrangments in New York and Israel where he gets extra office space paid by the government to conduct ehud olmert consultants business.Barnea and the high court are laughing stocks. Olmert is an absolute fraud, a liar bar none, an appeaser who makes chamberlain look good. Ya, he would give golan to assad, the den of terror. What a shmuck!
10. Which settlements?
Ken Besig ,   Israel   (05.26.09)
The settlements that Obama is referring to, as Barnea knows, also include the settlements of Maale Adumin, French Hill, Gilo, and East Talpiot, among others in the Jerusalem area. They also include Katzrin and all the rest on the Golan Heights and the Jordan Valley. Leftist Israelis like Barnea like to exclude those "settlements" from their arguments because to mention them would lethally damage their rationale for stopping so called settlement activity to appease the Americans but also because Israeli Leftists are usually inherently dishonest about their beliefs and goals.
11. It was Shaw, not Churchill
Zach Wheat ,   Tel Aviv   (06.09.09)
Mr. Barnea I appreciate your column but your lead undermines your credibility as it was not Winston Churchill who said that about the English language and it's speakers on both sides of the Atlantic. It was George Bernard Shaw, who spoke often on the subject.
