1. Okon would give the arabs the right to throw Molotov
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.26.09)
cocktails and plant roadside bombs too. How else would the arabs be able to express themselves? Maybe he would like them to be funded for a few hundred rallies where they protest that the Holocaust never happened. What a waste of broadband giving this guy a platform.
2. The author has lost his identity and soul, not Israel!
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (05.26.09)
3. Nakba Bill
Nevada_len ,   Florida, USA   (05.26.09)
Article is not worth a comment. Israel does not have a written Constitution so freedom of speech, etc. will not enter into wheter this law is legal or not. If the Knesset passes this law, which I think is absolutely justified, it will be the law of the land despite the three lefties.who oppose it. They come from a defunct entity anyhow.
4. The choice is between losing soul or body of Israel
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (05.26.09)
When these are the alternatives the answer is very clear. This is not some hypothetical question but a battle for the existence of the State of Israel, and one small weapon is to restrict part of the ability of our enemies to incite the population within Israel form becoming a destructive treacherous 5th column. As far as losing the soul of the Israeli democracy, this is a vast exaggeration, and this author knows it very well, but hey, what wouldn't a leftist write, outright lies included, to advance their agenda of appeasement of Jews' worst enemies!
5. TREASON
Evan ,   Ny ny   (05.26.09)
The answer to this article is: it is illegal to do treason! It is that simple. Whether in the US or anywhere else
6. Free speech is not only speech that you like
David G   (05.26.09)
I find the concept of Nakba day disgusting. That is exactly the reason why it should be permitted, and why I am proud that it currently is. A nation is not measured by tolerating praises from its press and citizens, but from the critique it can stand. Iran does not accept public insults or questions of its Islamic Republic system; neither does North Korea of Kim. Is Israel like them that it cannot accept attacks on its founding?
7. Then legalize Kach
Mordechai   (05.26.09)
I think you make a great argument for free speech By your same logic legalize Kach, if being anti Israel must be legal then too being anti Arab must be legal. The issue isn't if you agree with the ideas of Kahanes supporters just that you agree with their right to express their views without government repression
8. Beg to differ: Nakba is synonymous with anti-semitism
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (05.26.09)
The reason? The overwhelming majority of those who mark the Nakba are anti-semitic Holocaust deniers who agree with Ahmadinejad that Israel should be wiped off the map. Is that the 'freedom' we want? No, freedom does not mean anarchy.
9. The "nakba" is commemorated because Israel was proclamed and
JBI ,   Israel   (05.26.09)
the Arab countries that set out to extinct it on 15 May 1948 failed to do so.
10. HOLOCAUST DAY , IF NO NABQA ?
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (05.26.09)
11. Israel’s’ Basic Law: Human Dignity and Freedom
rob ,   Australia, Melb   (05.26.09)
just words on paper, just like all peace agreements and un resolutions. might as well pass the nakba law.
12. #2 HE ALSO DOESNT KNOW ABOUT SYMBOLISMTH.LAW MUST GO THROUGH
........DACON9   (05.26.09)
13. A nonbinding resolution would be better
Joshua ,   Pittsburgh, PA USA   (05.26.09)
I think what the TBers don't get is that even people on the right, such as Benny Begin, think this bill is terrible. What would be better is a nonbinding resolution, in which the Knesset proclaims its disappointment and outrage in the "observers" of the so-called "Naqba" (btw, ever want to rankle someone up? Shout, "Happy Naqba Day!"). However, that is all that can be done, as it is true that regulating speech that does not explicitly say "Itbah al-Yahud" would be a mistake. And for the record, even though I would never support Kach, I would support its legalization, based on the same reasons as above.
14. protesting the founding&existence of ones country is treason
Michael ,   Galut   (05.27.09)
15. In fact it would regain it's,honor, dignity, and self-respect
Yoav Laor ,   Haifa Israel   (05.29.09)
nakba-day is just another ploy to undermine the state. To gather with the anti Israeli placards, palestinian flags.and outright sedition. It's about time Israel reined in these people .Israel has been giving in to them too much.
