1. rockets on israel
alexi   (05.29.09)
Hamas fired 8000 rockets at israeli civilians over the years and the UN led by arabs and bleeding heart europeans investigate israel for war crimes. Well, the cowards solana, moratinos inparticular and the yellow bastards in france and norway can eat shwarma and pray to allah because that is what is coming. majority moslem rule in europe. Then you will be begging israel for help. Alll te arabs in israel who do not swear allegience to the jewish state should be deported to Jordan and that includes the gazans.Furthurmore part of Jordan belongs to israel and will be so claimed.

3. I think Israel
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (05.29.09)
should send these clowns packing. One-way tickets to Sri Lanka; let them examine the carnage there. Seriously -- no access to Israeli military commanders; no entry to Gaza through Israeli crossings. That will send a very strong statement to the United Nations which it REALLY NEEDS TO HEAR. It will also be highly embarrassing to the United Nations that Israel is flicking them away like they would an annoying gnat (which is, come to think of it, exactly what they are) -- and that will be an extremely satisfying thing for Israelis and Jews the world over.
4. Origin of this Enquiry
Ozraeli ,   Australia   (05.29.09)
I think it is important to know where this Commission sprouted from. It is not merely a UN invention established by the "Usual Supects" of the General Assmbly. It was established following the request of such noted Israel supporting luminaries as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Mary Robinson, former UN High Commissioner of the disbanded and discredited UN Human Rights Commission, organiser of Durbin I, and Richard Goldstone himself. Several of the signatories were members of the South African "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" A specific expectation and demand for prosecution have been included in their letter to the UN Secretary General. They believe that by “outing" the "truth", they will advance the Middle East "peace process". Arrogant and self serving, if not monumentally naive and delusionary. Nice work, if you can get it. Nothing like a bunch of lawyers creating work for themselves by judging others! A Busmen’s Holiday, as it were… I would happily call them "Glorified Ambulance Chasers", seeking specifically to find fault in others for allegedly constructive purposes. I attach for the reader's reference & edification: • Links to an Amnesty UK posting regarding the establishment of this commssion, which includes the original letter (signed by several of the Commission members!) to the Secretry General of the UN, requesting the establishment of the Commission. http://www.amnesty.org.uk/news_details.asp?NewsID=18109 • The UN Press release informing of the establishment, including short biographies of the Commission's members. http://www.unhchr.ch/huricane/huricane.nsf/0/2796E2CA43CA4D94C125758D002F8D25?opendocument Judge for yourself... Gaza: World's leading investigators call for war crimes inquiry Posted: 16 March 2009 Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mary Robinson and Justice Richard Goldstone among signatories 'shocked to core' by recent events. A 16-strong group of the world's most experienced investigators and judges have today (16 March) called for a full international investigation into alleged abuses of international law during the recent Gaza conflict.... ...The letter calls for the establishment of a United Nations commission of inquiry into the Gaza conflict that: • Has a mandate to carry out a prompt, thorough, independent and impartial investigation of all allegations of serious violations of international humanitarian law committed by all parties to the conflict • Acts in accordance with the strictest international standards governing such investigations • Can provide recommendations as to the appropriate prosecution of those responsible for gross violations of the law by the relevant authorities An excerpt from their letter: To: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations Security Council Ambassadors Find the truth about the Gaza war Dear Secretary-General, dear Ambassadors, Allegations of serious violations of the laws of war have emerged throughout the latest Gaza conflict - relating to the conduct and actions both by the Israeli military and by the Palestinian armed groups. As individuals with direct experience of international justice and reconciliation of conflict, we believe there is an important case to be made for an international investigation of gross violations of the laws of war, committed by all parties to the Gaza conflict... ...We have seen at first hand the importance of investigating the truth and delivering justice for the victims of conflict and believe it is a precondition to move forward and achieve peace in the Middle East... ...if it finds sufficient evidence, it should provide recommendations as to the appropriate prosecution of those responsible for gross violations of the law by the relevant authorities... A Pandora’s Box for Israel., and a unhealthy confirmation that Israel is agreeing to be an “Abused Nation” by fulfilling the “Battered Wife Syndrome”, and begging: ”Please be nice to me”.
5. I wonder why...
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (05.29.09)
...no UN delegation EVER checks whether there were any Human Rights or war Crimes committed by Iran in Iran, by Syria in Lebanon, by US in Iraq and Afghanistan, by India in Sri-Lanka, by Russia in Chechnya and Georgia and by China in Tibet - to name only a FEW of the bloodiest recent conflicts. Why is it ALWAYS and ONLY Israel which is singled out? I call for the Israeli Government to allow such commissions ONLY when probes in the above conflicts have been performed and results of those probes published. Until then - KEEP OFF and STAY OUT!
6. Report has already been written
Danny   (05.29.09)
they just changed the date on "I blame Israel dot dot"
7. Agree with #5 - what about 20,000 deaths in Sri Lanka
Marcelo ,   World   (05.29.09)
Or what about probing Taliban beheadings and causing 2,000,000 people to run from them? UN, you are a SHAME! bunch of hipocrites.
8. #3 - With Obama in power you don't have much luxury

11. #5,7,9 you can protest that too

and demand more increase in Sri Lanka's deaths, so that Israel might have more free hand in killing.
12. great chance for Israel to prove allegation
observer   (05.29.09)
The UN team has been mandated to investigate Both Palestinian and Israeli civilian atrocities. how many years of rockets you said?
13. again #11 ignorant/unaware of international geopolitics
better observer   (05.29.09)
where Sri Lanka was able today to avoid an investigation in the UNHRC when its many friends there voted against it. The biggest violators of human rights seat on that forum, vote and even head it. Think that the 57 member Organization of Islamic Countries always vote as a block and always against Israel, never missed one opportunity, this includes Egypt and Jordan, supposed Peace partners of Israel, Turkey purporting to be a friend and of all countries India with its own Muslim problems, does it for better oil pricing from Arabs. With such odds Israel never had a chance for fair treatment.
14. How about a rabbinical court excommunicating

goldstone? Or are the "rabbis" cowards?
15. Missing the point-Prosecutors are Prosecutors are Prosecutor
Ozraeli ,   Australia   (05.29.09)
The report is camouflaged UN Lawfare, & is to find a reason for indictment of Israel. Reactions to this enquiry miss its point & potential consequences, regardless of its makeup, Jewish chairman, his personal integrity, & declared intentions. It is identical to Maj Gen. Eiland (ex National Security Adviser) warning about becoming a Signatory to the International Criminal Court, which, at the last moment, Israel refused to do (as did the US), because it opens a potential Pandora's Box of ceding sovereign control to international jurisdiction, similar to what Spain is trying to impose on Israel now. Read the background on committee members! A report has to have a consensus, & perceived infractions will be used selectively to castigate & indict Israel based on legalistic interpretations of innumerable vague, subjective international Treaties. This enquiry is the equivalent of the City Council demanding to inspect your house, & report on building, safety, environmental, & childcare activity, based on your next door neighbor Hell’s Angels gang complaint about you interfering with their parties! Regardless of your adherence to City Code, there will always be "rejects", legalistic breaches, based on new technology, new regulations, subjective “enlightened” interpretation, a need to “Find something”, pre existing agenda, & FEAR OF THE BIKER GANG. It will also create a DEFACTO RECOGNITION OF HAMAS as a governing, State like entity, not a terror organisation. Read one of Goldstone's previous quotes, & think of the possible consequences. You can see the demands for prosecution coming a mile away. Remember, “A Prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich!” RG: 'I would like to emphasize that we will focus our investigation (!?!!) not on political considerations, but on an objective & impartial (RETROSPECTIVE LAWYER'S & PROSECUTOR'S) analysis of compliance of the parties (ONE, A NON STATE Terror Organisation SUBJECT TO NO LAW) to the conflict with their obligations under international human rights & humanitarian law (at best, unclear & subject to interpretation), especially their responsibility to ensure the protection of civilians (MANY WHO WERE COMBATANTS DRESSED AS CIVILIANS), & non-combatants' said Goldstone, a former UN WAR CRIMES PROSECUTOR. "International Law" is a largely abstract concept (stated before by people far more knowledgeable than I), because (among other reasons) there are few agreed judging & enforcement mechanisms, (& they are mainly economic). There are innumerable Treaties to which States are signatories. They bind & direct to differing degrees, state "principles", but ARE ALL FILTERED through the Signatories own laws, interpretations, & enforcement. Due to the vagaries of differing perspectives, context, history, anthropology, & sociology, they are sufficiently vague (listen to the cacophony!) to allow enormous situational latitude. Over the last few years, at every stage, as Israel has stood up for itself & acted forthrightly, forcefully, & directly, as an independent, sovereign nation, the rest of the world has increasingly respected Israel more, & cooperated more in preventing the activities that create these problems, whether it is smuggling Iranian arms via Sudan & Cyprus, Egypt cooperating against Hamas, or other unpublicised actions. Why does Israel constantly need to prove itself "Purer than pure", & perpetrate the "Battered Wife (Nation) Syndrome"? Goldstone can investigate the 20,000+ killed in Sri Lanka; Russian massacres in Chechnya; IRA in Ireland; decapitations in Saudi Arabia; Syrian gassing, massacres in Hama & assassinations in Lebanon; Al Qaida suicide bombings & stoning to death in Afghanistan; genocide in Darfur, NATO bombing of Serbia; UN incompetence causing the Srebinica Slaughter, & the list goes on & on & on. Why open a Pandora's Box of BS while simultaneously continuing to be everyone's favourite whipping boy and scapegoat? Ma, ani fryer shelachem?
16. But the UN REFUSES to investigate war crimes in Sri Lanka
Zvi   (05.29.09)
http://yaacovlozowick.blogspot.com/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/may/28/sri-lanka-un-war-crimes-investigation The UN is a "kangaroo court."
17. AGREE WITH "BETTER OBSERVER" #13
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (05.30.09)
WHY DO WE NEED THE LAME OLD "OBSERVER" AT #11, #12, WHEN WE NOW HAVE A REAL AND TIMELY " BETTER OBSERVER" AT #13 ! IT'S IN WITH THE NEW "BETTER OBSERVER " AND OUT WITH THE TIRED OLD FAULTY "OBSERVER" ! LAME OLD "OBSERVER"..... JUST RETIRE YOURSELF AS YOUR RELEVANCE IS NO LONGER NEEDED.
18. KICK OUT THOSE LYING U.N. ANTI-SEMITE BUMS !!
ABARAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (05.30.09)
PICK THEM UP IN HELICOPTERS AND DROP THEM INTO SRI LANKA OR DROP THEM OFF IN DARFUR. THE U.N. TEAM DESERVES NO RESPECT AND CERTAINLY NO ASSISTANCE FROM ISRAEL. NO SUPLLIES OF FOOD, WATER, MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO THE DISGUSTING U.N. TERRORISTS. THESE U.N. LOW DOWN ANTI-SEMITIC BUMS DESERVE CONTEMPT FROM ALL GOOD AND FAIR MINDED PEOPLE.
19. First the UN finds Israel guilty and then sends people to...
Bernards ,   Bern, Switzerland   (05.30.09)
...find the evidence for it. What a joke of an organization. How can anyone still respect this body?
20. # to 5....

You quote "...no UN delegation EVER checks whether there were any Human Rights or war Crimes committed by Iran in Iran, by Syria in Lebanon, by US in Iraq and Afghanistan, by India in Sri-Lanka, by Russia in Chechnya and Georgia and by China in Tibet - to name only a FEW of the bloodiest recent conflicts. Why is it ALWAYS and ONLY Israel which is singled out ? .... WHY ISRAEL NEVER NAME ALL THAT CRIMES...IN AN AN OFFENSIVE ARGUMENTATION ??? MASOCHISM...???

Kudos to you! Very acute analysis. Nothing like determining the result before examining the evidence. Probably won't come off, anyway. Secretary Ban-ki Moon, being South Korean, has probably determined that North Korea is a REALLY BIG PROBLEM TO DEAL WITH and has (finally!) come to the realization that there are bigger and far more dangerous fish to fry in the world. United Nations. Try Unrelenting Numbskulls.
