In the USA, students are never REQUIRED to recite the pledge of allegiance. There have been many cases that have ended up in front of the United States Supreme Court, and the Court invariably decides that it is unconstitutional to mandate that any native-born citizen must recite a pledge of loyalty. (This is not, however, true for foreign-born aliens who want to become citizens. They ARE required to recite a loyalty oath.) Personally, as a US citizen, I have never been required to "demonstrate my loyalty'," aside from eating the occassional hot dog on the 4th of July and singing The Star Spangled Banner at a baseball game. So, to answer your question: No. The US is NOT fascist because our consitution protects the rights of ALL its citizens. Can the same be said for Israel if it adopts this ill-advised bill?

I understand that Israel wants uniformity. Every citizen should swear loyalty to it's country. However, these bills would hurt Israel in short/long term. These Arabs have no loyalty, love or desire to be apart of Israel. They call for Israel's destruction. The idea of a two state solution is disgusting to them. So, how is a piece of paper requiring them to say a few meaningless words going to change their minds? We jews forget that our own culture has survived tumultuous times before. The Quran says that Israel is for the Jews. There are arabs that are denied citizenship in the countries they are born in because they are "palestinian", even though they never set foot in palestine.
