The authors obviously never even visited the countries in question, and their methods of determining the results would be laughable, if they weren't so obviously biased. Israel is more dangerous than Sudan? Is the "Institute for Economics and Peace" staffed by neo-nazis? Their website is suspect: no names, a PO box in Australia. WIth such a broad, non-specific name and goals that are mom and apple-pie, you have to question which organizations and money are behind this group.

The press release for the report lists the major endorsers including the following known anti-Israel bigots: Archbishop Desmond Tutu, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, President Jimmy Carter and Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations. No small wonder the report says that Israel is more "dangerous" than a dozen other areas in the world where there are millions of refugees struggling to survive (Sudan, Pakistan), war raging in the streets (Madagascar) or rampant corruption and poverty (Zimbabwe). OK--I can walk down the streets here late at night and not get mugged--like in most western countries. I can drop my wallet and have it returned, I can go to the ATM without being mugged and I sleep very well at night. I have lived in Europe and North America and I have never felt safer than I do right here in Israel. So, they can take their report and use it for fertilizer for all I care.

How not surprising that the Guardian is behind this questionable report. For the life of me I can't understand how on earth is the US safer than Israel. We've been able to thwart terror attacks in Israel-proper for quite some time now. And in the last Gaza war, only 4 civilians were killed. The car accidents are a problem here, but not much more so than in other western countries. Aside for that, we're a pretty safe country. With the crime rates in inner cities in America, plus all the psychos who go on killing sprees - the USA is more dangerous. I think the safety ranking should be based on the percentage of deaths from unnatural causes.

I am coming from North Europe, and I am absolutely agree with you. I feel much safer to walk at late evening, while I am avoiding doing that after 23 in Finland HELSINKI!
