1. all spin and no solution
bezalel ,   tel aviv   (06.04.09)
this article attempts to portray the view that a 2 state solution is a workable solution. the arab world has never accepted a jewish state and has always wanted a return of refugees to israel and israel to return to 1948 borders. all arab intellectuals advocate a one state solution, while the west tries to shove the failed 2 state solution down jewish and arab throats. there has never been a 'palestinian ' nation and the arabs themselves don't want it alongside a jewish state-but they will accept all the land from the jordan river to the medi sea as being arab land.

but he won’t say it aloud. Please stop with this PR we have got enough of it during the Presidential Campaign! Newsflash: The Presidential Campaign is over the real task has begun. That said, sweet rhetoric is not going to help; it is Middle East after all; the mother of deception, cruelty, inequality, and tyranny among other things. ghostq   (06.04.09)
Obama is conducting his ways around, he can talk all he waants but he did nothing, doesn't do anything, and will do nothing in the middle east, if ever he is just digging a bigger hole for his political career, some democrats don't like the way he is running things, soon we can hear first sound of what Donald Trump normaly would say, you r fired!
4. Lets take a deep breath....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (06.04.09)
Obama isn't stupid. He knows we aren't completely freezing anything. And he is going to say alot of things that his various target audiences, including us, aren't going to want to hear. But he will deliver a masterful speech with something for and against everybody.
5. Hurt relations- what relations?
Bless ,   America   (06.04.09)
When Obama was voted into power, the relations between the USA and Israel died a sudden death. why is everybody scared to say it. Israel is on its own... well only GOD Is on Israel's side now. That is all they need though. I will miss our good relations with them, we have been blessed to have them as a friend. I didnt vote Obama, but will respect the decision and hope he will not win in 44 months time

First the palestinians have to put their house in order, before serious talks could begin,Why should Israel help to establish another Hamastan in the west bank ?
8. Find a way to side step the Chapmion of Hope
(06.04.09)
And distance yourselves from the US. You get no benefit from this "special" relationship and a "stallwart ally" As far as America is concerned Israel is bought and paid for, start changing this perception now.
9.  What U.S can provide to Israel that Russians can not?
e.m.Jordan is Palest ,   s.f   (06.04.09)
If I were the Israeli politicians right now I would ask to U.S that Israel doesn’t need their aid any more and will change my direction to Russia, Yes Russia may every year can not provide $2 Billions U.S to Israel but do not forget that the Russian economy developing day by day, and also Israeli technology which is one of the best in world day by day developing, beside Russia has all the right in United Nation like America has and there is no doubt that the Russian willing to stay back of Israel and more Russians doesn’t have any thing to loss in Muslims nations which America has it and there will lot more benefits in Russia which there is not in U.S.
10. obama shows his true colors
Michael Ezrachi ,   St. Louis, U.S.A.   (06.04.09)
I hope all the "good liberal Jewish Democrats" are happy, they voted for the most anti Israel president, even more anti Israel then carter. How nice for obama to go to the saudi kingdom, a place Jews can't even visit on vacation. obama is hurting any change for peace. Now the arabs think obama is going to get them every thing they want. I hope the Israeli government disregards obama and his foolish ideas. Israel out lasted carter, Israel, will also out last the appeaser, obama. But, the iranian threat needs to be dealt with, sooner rather then later.

13. it is Cairo University, NOT a university in Cairo
observer   (06.04.09)
The university was founded on December 21, 1908, as the result of an effort to establish a national center for educational thought. Several constituent colleges preceded the establishment of the university including the College of Engineering in 1816. Al-Azhar University in Cairo was founded in 975. When was the oldest Israeli university founded?
14. WHY IS ISRAEL SO FEARFUL ?
Marcel ,   Florida   (06.04.09)
Is it because you placed all your faith in this false god and ignored the Holy One of Israel ? Faithless people are fearful people.
15. Obama
lynne ,   usa   (06.04.09)
I know that there is a great deal of concern about the impact of Obama's words and his plans, but I honestly believe that he is saying what is true and needs to be said. He has been confronting negative actions, as well as proposing a change in direction. I hope that he is successful. We shall see...

carry my words but do NOT carry them out, just for example: 'You shall not murder.' 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.' 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'
19. Israel Afraid of Peace
Adam ,   USA   (06.04.09)
Israelis are afraid of peace with the Palestinians and Arab World...peace will mean they will have to finally deal with their own internal problems (which are many) instead of using the Palestinian "conflict" as a way to unite its very divisive society. Peace will mean the Zionist dream of Eretz Israel (which includes claiming all the lands of the West Bank and Gaza at the expense of the Palestinian inhabitants) will come to an end. Peace will mean Israel will no longer receive billions in military aide from America nor will it be able to claim to be under perrenial "threat" which means massive amounts of money flowing in from the Jewish diaspora. All along Israelis have been brainwashed to "blame the Arabs"...when all along it was Israel that doesn't want to know peace.
20. Obama is EVIL!!
Jason ,   USA   (06.04.09)
How dare he try to stop the fanatical Israeli settlers from stealing Palestinian land in the West Bank and attempting to expel the local Palestinians!!! How dare he try to prevent Jews from ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians!! What an evil, evil man!

You got an ancient Uni and Egypt gets ca 70 patents issued / year whereas Israel over 7000 / year. What does the "historical " Uni achieves when the teachings and results are olso ancient.
23. #13, It is the same crap full of hatred, no matter spelling
better observer   (06.04.09)
For all the oil revenues that have flowed into the wealthier Arab countries, the overall state of the Arab world is appalling. It does not produce one single manufactured product of sufficient quality to sell on world markets. Arab productivity is the lowest in the world. Nowhere in the Arab world is there a single world-class university. Arab scientific achievement has degenerated into a few research programs in the fields of nuclear, chemical and biological warfare. There is not one true democracy in the Arab world. No Arab State genuinely respects human rights. No Arab state hosts a responsible media. No Arab society fully respects the rights of women or minorities, and no Arab government has ever accepted public responsibility for its own shortcomings. The Arab Middle East is the world's first entirely parasitic culture because it imitates poorly, consumes voraciously, spits hatred, exports death, and creates nothing.

But, Einstein stressed the opposite.
25. #21 - Yes
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (06.04.09)
Despite the enormous beating we took and the loss of one third of our people - we did survive. I cannot explain the Holocaust, it was a horrific episode in our history. My family was of the victims, too. But, the Jews are still here, and, as a people, we will always be here. That is a promise from the Almighty Himself. Those who oppose us will vanish. Those who help us will be rewarded.
26. #24 couldn't care less of your crap too
better observer   (06.04.09)
Jews excel the most no matter where they are as long as they are free to perform, and even in very difficult circumstances like under the Tsar or in besieged Israel. Arab societies on the other hand are dysfunctional and have immersed themselves in a culture of denial. They emphasize struggle, quash competition and reject alternate approaches to Peace or ways of thinking. With few exceptions, Arab governments live in a state of internal fear that avoids investigating their failures or acquainting themselves with or opening their societies to the cultures of others. As a result, their societies cannot hand down positive achievements to future generations unless they overcome their secretiveness, their isolation, and especially their compulsive need to blame others for their own failings. Unlike Japan, Taiwan, Israel, Singapore and many other countries who recognized early on that their scarce resources required them to turn their lack of material resources into technological strengths in order to become competitive in the world economy, the Arabs relied exclusively on the great sea of oil beneath their deserts as a substitute for intellect, creativity and entrepreneurship. It has now cost them their future and saddled the world with a parasitic and pathologically suicidal movement that has proven its capacity to destroy and its incapacity to create anything of substance to human civilization.

If Israel fails to attain some peace the constant agitation of low-intensity conflict and terrorist attacks punctuated by periodic war will destroy Israel's soul. The increasing fanaticism of Israeli youth is a sign of that happening now. The failure, of too many Israelis to see Palestinians as suffering human beings or to view anything about Islam as being worthy of respect, are signs of that loss of humanity. Attempting to break the log jam of Israeli politics, for the sake of a possible peace, does not make President Obama anti-Israel. The current path is not sustainable and Israel's leaders lack the courage to see the writing on the wall. People of good will can no longer tolerate this sectarian abscess, that is a source and symbol of perpetual instability of the world. Unlike the Syrians, who, as Rabin said: "...were always willing to fight to the life of the last Egyptian soldier" America is pledged to fight to defend Israel's right to exist to the last American life. That does not mean that we will support interminable arrogance, obstructionism and the endless presumption of bad faith that (while not unjustified) makes any peace process impossible. The two state solution offers Israel the possibility of living in relative peace with a failed Palestinian state, for which failure Israel is not responsible. It offers the leverage of demanding that the Arab world do something for Palestinians besides making them tools of Arab aggression. President Obama is reflecting what the entire world demands, that fixed positions must shift to put the real possibility of peace on the table. Israel may continue to risk its survival over these settlements, but it can not and will not drag the security of the entire world into the vortex of its inability to control its own religious fanatics. I am a Jew and a Zionist who believes that if Israel can not continue to pay the price of war, it must pay the price for peace. As the very worst, the two state solution will lay the groundwork for a just war, where Israel has clean hands and clear alliances. At best, there may even be peace.

16. In The End, G-d Is On The Side Of The Jews Please remember that, Mr. President Reuven Brauner , Raanana, Israel (06.04.09) Dear Reuven: While what you say is true and I agree with you. Every thing that I was taught tells me that it is more important to focus on the fact that Jews should strive to be on G-d's side... I believe, that is the side of peace where peace is possible.
