Obama's speech had a little something for everyone. What strikes me is the (not terribly surprising) responses from the public on all sides of the various issues. Each hears what he/she wants to hear and disregards the rest. Each reacts to chosen portions; yet somehow overlooks the balancing points. The good news, I suppose, is that most reactions seem generally positive. The not-so-good news is that each group reacts to the stuff they like but not to the larger and far more important overall message of peace through cooperation and mutual respect. Mutual respect goes all ways; not just from everyone else to each interest group that sees itself as the victims of disrespect. Obama is right - It's time for all parties to grow up, set aside their historical differences, and work for the common good. That means honest and genuine concern on the part of all, not only for your own people but for all the people on all sides.
