31. How to self define "Useless Wanker"
Gideon Reader   (06.06.09)
Gimme a break. These idiot wankers should be in olive drab if they are seeking a fight. What a major bunch of "putzim laydigayers" they are. Useless and appearantly no particular interest in Israel of it's survival except for what they can extort from the various social services. They will riot over a car park but will not fight an enemy that wants to obliterate the state? EFF EMM, says I.
32. illegal . . .
eliezer ,   jerusalem   (06.06.09)
Perhaps the opening of a parking lot is illegal, perhaps the riot police are illegally depriving protesters of their right to free speech, perhaps this newspaper is anti-religious??
33. Far too late
Harvey ,   LONDON   (06.06.09)
The ultra orthodox take everything the state has to offer but give nothing back. The vast majority have never done a serious days work in their life and yet expect the state to support them and their oversize families . Worse still is the fact that the state does not enforce their conscription which means the rest of Israeli society must be prepared to defend the country and to possibly make the ultimate sacrifice for these parasites .Absolutely disgraceful and the cause of untold resentment . Furthermore ,they view secular Jews as not real Jews and worse then non Jews including Arabs . This is a ticking time bomb which 50 years down the line will explode if not before . Im not sure about the impact on the demography of the country but one thing for sure is that secular Israelis will be expected to contribute disproportionately to their state benefits and pensions in the future. No government has the will to rectify the problem so it can only worsen. Haredim must serve in the army .Create a special unit -when they refuse send them to boot camp. This emotional blackmail that as Jews the state must support them right or wrong is utter madness . They are no better then Israeli Arabs mourning Nakba day . I consider them both in conflict with the ideals and values of Eretz Israel .
34. What really happened is...
Anonymous ,   Jerusalem   (06.07.09)
The police were stationed right outside my house this Shabbat. They first took off their badges so no one can report their actions. Then as the Hareidim were saying a prayer, they stormed the crowd and started pushing people. There were some people (including children) who were not part of the protest, but were just walking to synagogue and they were being pushed by the police. My family and I saw several innocent children falling to the ground due to negligence by the police. The police started the violence in this case. I am a witness and not a Hareidi...hence I was not at the protest but just watching from my window with the family. Secondly, I have never had any issues with my Hareidi neighbors, who are all working people with jobs and are not "welfare" thieves like some of you people commented. I made Aliyah a few years ago and have never had any problems like the ones you mentioned. I do keep Shabbat with my family and I do understand the frustration of having your closed-in community suddenly being violated by people desecrating Shabbat. That is the same as someone going to India and eating a beef burger in public or kicking a cow when they worship a cow in India. If this country was a real democracy it would try to be sensitive to all people, including those who keep Shabbat. After all, this is a Jewish country, and it is one thing to be a Jew, but it is another to be JEWISH.
35. don't you bible believers get that this saturday thing you w
david ,   naharia   (06.06.09)
don't you bible believers get that this saturday thing you worship means really nothing? through history calendars have changed, emperors have decided to skip weeks just to adjust to their own needs, etc. so even assuming you do need to worship a day of the week, this saturday is not the same saturday of 2000 years ago
36. To all those
Yossele Haredi ,   Jerusalem   (06.07.09)
who ridicule the fact that we have "rioted' on Shabbat. First of all this was not a riot as stated. This was doing the will of God in order to save our nation from disaster. As it is permitted to break Shabbat in order to save a life so it is permitted to break Shabbat in order to save the Jewish nation. In fact it is more important to save a whole nation rather than one life.
37. @ 36 Yossele Haredi , Jerusalem

THANKS BUT IN FUTURE DO IT ON WEEK DAYS .
38. To Yossele 36
Moishele Torani ,   Yerushalayim   (06.07.09)
" In fact it is more important to save a whole nation rather than one life. " So does that mean you and your fellow "chareidim" will now serve in Tzahal?
39. They Dont Even Contribute to the Economy!
steven stein ,   New York   (06.07.09)
I cant Believe these People throw them out because they dont contribute to anything other then prayer! I hate haredi People so much!
40. There's that word again
Shimon ,   Cincinnati, USA   (06.07.09)
1. Round up the rioters. 2. Put them on the crumbiest boat you can find. 3. Tow it out to sea. 4. Sink it. Problem solved? Bet you won't see them rioting anytime soon...but if they do? Repeat 1-4 above.
41. #36- And you know "this was doing the

will of God" how? Do you have a direct line to him and he tells you what he wants? Spare us the religious mumbo jumbo. Serve in the Army, get a job and contribute to the nation. We've had enough of you your religious coercion.
42. parking lot
sas ,   israel   (06.07.09)
SHOULD be open 7 days a week. who are these parasites dictating our lives??????????
43. # 17 Try reading your own text
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.07.09)
You seem to be somewhat confused. You write that Israel is a Jewish state and then at the same time you say it is a democratic state. Well let me clarify that for you. The modern state of Israel is a democratic state and is not a religious state based on jewish law. Who do these religious fanatics thin they are, dictating to others how to live. Fine example they are, as usual they acheive everything through violence and hatred . One word sums up these thugs "discusting" and they further serve as a reminder as to why i am not religious !
44. lets park outside their homes instead
Rob ,   Tel Aviv   (06.07.09)
Put on Maddona and turn up the volume >>>>
45. B"H, Bless the people of Mea Shearim, they keep the Sabbath
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.07.09)
in THEIR neighborhood. They don't drive to Tel Aviv and stop the secular Jews from cooking bacon on Shabbos, they stay in THEIR neighborhood. Little bit by little bit the secular Jews are trying to make ALL of Israel into a no man's land for religious Jews and may they be punished for their evil deeds. No one will die for lack of a parking space in a religious neighborhood on Shabbos, leave the parking lot closed.
46. Yossele
Ilana   (06.07.09)
It is very easy to find excuses and reasons to fit your acts. Cheap use of Jewish law.
47. #39 Talk about contributing...
Baruch ,   Jerusalem   (06.07.09)
Continue with you blind hatred my friend. I am Haredi and plan someday on joining the Nahal- Haredi, What exactly have you contributed in besides your blind hatred? which we have more than enough here without you?
48. not again
Irit ,   Ramat Hasharon   (06.07.09)
If the parking lot was closed all these years, why open it now? Jesus christ! why pick a fight with these people! We have bigger fights to pick. How come no one cares about the discrimination against the gay and lesbian community in Israel?
49. STOP WORKING ON SHABBAT

51. #48 - Actual, gay rights are better here than in the USA!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (06.07.09)
And the lot was probably closed becase for the past decade+, Jerusalem was in the hands of the fanatics. It seems to have been really liberated in the last election!
52. #45 Bunnie in LA LA Land
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.07.09)
Do enlighten all us nasty seculars, you know the ones that work, pay taxes, serve in the army and actually live in Israel. Do they close down Rodeo Drive in downtown LA on Saturday? However do you manage in the holy city of LA? All those nasty goys and secular jews all around. This country dosenet exist today because of Jews who desert Israel to live in LA USA who seem to think that being Jewish is to sit in the comfort of LA writing venemous commennts on a web site attacking fellow jews who dont have the same religious view as you. Grow up and get a life!
53. There was no "pikuach Nefesh"
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.07.09)
As far as known to me , you may , and HAVE , to transgress the Shabbat rest laws if there is a life in immediate danger . This was not the case yesterday . They could demonstrate after Shabbat .
54. got spat on
eye(-)sys ,   JAHrusalem - Musrara   (06.07.09)
i was there and was spat on by a haredi man!!! repuslive - yes! but even more repulsive that this all happened in MY NEIGHBORHOOD of Musrara (where the city hall is located) and all while dressed in modest clothing! its one thing if you go in their neighborhood and disrespect their sensitivities...tho i dont condone that type of behavior - if you are in *their* neighborhood and do something innappropriate its fair game. but these animals came into my neighborhood and started spitting at our residents!!! sick people - desecrating what was a beautiful shabbat day!

Giora Me'ir ,   USA   (06.07.09)
58. I agree with Bunnie #45
Israeli ,   Karmiel   (06.07.09)
Why can't there be a little sacntity on the Sabbath in the Holy City? Most of Israel caters to hilonim and Aravim. The Haridim keep their own area as they like. No need for the parking lot. Let the Goyim from chutz-l'aretz park somewhere else.
59. for SHAME
Lisa   (06.07.09)
the 'holy' people rioting and behaving like hoodlums on Shabbat - over a parking lot. And they complain that the media and the seculars are biased against them- . This was not a protest- this was a full blown riot- the world was watching in horror and disgust- shame on the haredi involved in this.
60. #36 will of God
Markus   (06.07.09)
how is it when you, the hardei do something stupid or wrong it is the 'will of God'- but when seculars go about their lives they break Shabbat etc... Save yourself from disaster, rather than Israel.
