1. and when Europe & the US recognize Hizbollah
big moe ,   Jerusalem   (06.07.09)
genuis doesn't realize that once Hezbollah takes over Lebanon all the EU states will be riushing to recognize it. In addition, Then Obama will and then Israel will have to contend with a radical and recogn ized Islamic entity on its Northern border. they will start building nuclear power plants and trying to develope a bomb as well stockpiling evenm more missiles. where is the big bracha in that?
2. Roots of al Muqawama
Farid ,   Potomac, MD   (06.07.09)
Such logic fits more the Syrian scenario where the roots of al-Muqawama drive Hezbollah and Hamas to act. Why Hamas, in control of Gaza and still competing for political leverage against the PA, has not relinquished on al-Muqawama? Hezbollah will use the Palestinians, as do others, to continue on its path of destruction. Just do not go to sleep on the hope this is better for anyone.
3. Finally a sensible article
Danny   (06.07.09)
Only problem is that it assumes that the UN and the media will not simply parrot Hizbollah lies.
4. But then we get another Syria/Iran
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (06.07.09)
If the Hizbullah coalition wins then Lebanon officially becomes yet another enemy state to Israel and the prospects for peace become ever more remote---perhaps even affecting what Israel does (or does not do) regarding settlements. Further, it means Syria and Iran will have greater leeway to threaten Israel from the north. You are still faced with an enemy who believes that he can wipe you off the map---esp if Ahmadinejad wins a second term. All these many factors, along with Iran's continued nuclear defiance, are ominous signs of things to come.
5. Woow, what subtle political analysis-Winer will lose
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (06.07.09)
So You are the loser who will win! If you simly reverse meanings of two terms in dictionaries, it is done! You good analyst!
6. #1 - recognized or not ..
redbourn ,   tel aviv   (06.07.09)
Israel would be able to respond to any attack from Lebanon with full force and not with one arm tied behind its back. Mike
7. The state within the state expands
The Dude   (06.07.09)
While there are obviously arguments that now everyone and there mother will try to recognize Hizb'allah. But speaking cynically and bluntly the fact is that many Gov't are already trying to find excuses to recognize them anyways. Hizb'allah part of the government will be no weaker than it is. The only difference now is that the charade is gone. This BS that we couldn't attack certain targets because Hizb'allah is not Lebanon is gone. Put simply, everything can now become a target, the Palace, the Army radar towers, and so on. The fact is that in 2009 we succeeded in Gaza because we treated Gaza as Hamas's entity. We showed complete resolve, will, and determination. In 2006 we were feeble and foiled because of our complete care to not hurt Lebanon. Now with a Hizb'allah victory eminent we can fight in 20XX in the third Lebanon war the way it was meant to be fought...to victory.
8. Sick & tired of Israeli gov't duplicity
Mark Katzman ,   San Francisco, USA   (06.07.09)
this is barak's and olmert's doing. But more importantly, slowly, parts of Israel are being lost or given away to the arabs, who see each gain as another step to their final victory over the Jews; to wit: Joseph's Tomb, Cave @ Machepelah, and most painfully the Temple Mount. None of these were important to arabs until Jews celebrated their return to Jewish control. Eventually Jews like me will tire of Israeli gov't and police duplicity and drop any connection to Israel whatsoever. If the leftists refuse a state that is Jewish in identity then I may as well visit and support Ireland or Iceland.
9. I understand
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.07.09)
Ze'evi is saying that when Hezbolla wins they will have to become more moderate? I guess he never heard of Hamas, which won the election, became more extreme, and then international legitimacy and funding.
10. Yes,he is right.....
LOL ,   LOL   (06.08.09)
it is better for Israel,Hizballah win the elections.
11. Well they lost
Roger Bern ,   Zurich, Helvetia   (06.08.09)
Oy Vey!
12. #9, maybe but what i understood is
Danny   (06.08.09)
he is saying that Israel will be fighting a sovereign state not a guerilla group and so there won't be any of this punishing the innocent crap. Unfortunately that didn't really work that well in Gaza did it....
13. Nasrallah
Brad ,   USA   (06.08.09)
Everytime I see that ugly, overfed, future Hell dweller, all I can think about is, how everywhere he stands is a target rich environment.
14. Another WARMONGER hiding in Universities
Boycotts NOW ,   USA   (06.08.09)
He is drooling at the mouth at the thought of starting another war to destroy Lebanese infrastructure. This is why Israeli universities should face BOYCOTTS GLOBALLY!
15. resistance
Nino ,   South   (06.08.09)
The resistance as a term is used by the lebanese community for long time now. Hizboullah is a pass before him there was Amal before Amal there was the Communist party and the leftist coalition. They all resisted, bought arms from everywhere they could to fight for their Country. Even If I decide as a Lebanese to forget about the arabo-israeli conflict and I decide to forgive the Jews for their genocide in Palestine for 61 years now. What the army has done in my country, I'v seen and touched 3 several wars and there is nothing that can make me feel confortable about having Israel as a neighbour ! especially that you guys votes on the right most of the time and you keep producing tradional leaders with no improove in the general speech. THerefore, To resist is no long a simple justified reaction, but an action of awarness. Maybe not the Lebanese are ok with the second one, but 90% of them at least are aware and agrees on the second one. And Even the forces of 14 mars are aware of this spefic point. all what they call from Hizboullah and to cooporate on a defensive military strategy, where the decision making is in best hope shared between the Government, The resistance and The Army headquarter. Good Night Israel .. I never attacked you while you are sleeping, and it will be for your good night sleeping to do the same with me otherwise we are the kind of people that fights back to the last breath :) High standards and High Values :)
