Nowray is one of the most anti-semitic nation in Europe. This is just a PR stunt to make Norway look good. Labor unions refuse to handle Israeli products. All Israeli products in supermarkets are marked so that anti-semitics would know what to buy and what not. Schechita is forbidden by Norwagian law therefore jews cannot keep kosher. Otto Jespersen a comedian recently joked about the Holocaust saying ""I would like to take the opportunity to remember all the billions of fleas and lice that lost their lives in German gas chambers, without having done anything wrong other than settling on persons of Jewish background" . Jew-hatred and rabid anti-Israelism intermingle.

EM ,   Ra'anana   (06.10.09)
You are probably right...too little, too late and the anti-Jewish sentiment in Norway will not go away because the Royals have decided to become politically correct. However, the joke about fleas and lice could be a cynical attempt to put the holocaust into the minds of people who usually ignore its significance or deny it ever happened. Who is the commedian?
5. Anti-Semitism
Joe ,   Baltimore USA   (06.10.09)
Has the growth of anti-Jewish feeling paralleled the growth of Norway's Muslim community or has it come as a result of media portrayals of Israel? The article doesn't make this clear.
6. #3 that's why the Royals were there
observer   (06.10.09)
Norway thought that labeling Israeli products would promote their purchase.
7. WAS NICE GESTURE - THE FASCIST LEFT IS THE PROBLEM

MOST OF THE PEOPLE OF NORWAY ARE GOOD, THE KING IS GOOD.. THE FASCIST LEFT IS BAD - THE MOSLEM IMMIGRANTS ARE BAD THIS GESTURE SEEKS TO STAVE OFF THE BAD..AND RE-INFORCE THE GOOD

1. "All Israeli products in supermarkets are marked so that anti-semitics would know what to buy and what not. " - That's just a load of BS. Israeli products are not marked, except with a barcode. The labour union boycotts Israel because they disagree with Israels politics on palestinians, not because they hate jews. 2. Schechita is forbidden because of the welfare of the animals. We don't allow barbaric behaviour on animals in Norway. 3. Otto Jespersen has also harassed muslims, christians, politicians, the native Norwegian lapplanders and every other group you can think of.
9. to #8 you hide behind your ethics
ghostq   (06.10.09)
the truth is you don't like jews, you call jewish ritual barbaric, yet you eat meat, be honest, it's not the ritual but the jewish way of life you don't like or maybe it's just the jews.
10. to #8 so in other words
ghostq   (06.10.09)
you don't buy Israely products cause the free industry of Israel witch got nothing to do with politics sell it's goods in Norway, and I thought norwigins r not racists, my bad.
11. What welfare?
IkkeNoeTullPrat   (06.10.09)
Talk about BS: Jewish Shechita is wrong, but Saami killing of animals is ok? It's the same discussion that was there just a few decades ago when it was pointed out the Jewish Shechita isn't very different, if at all, from the way the Saami prepare their Reindeer for dinner.
12. "The most anti-semitic ..."
NilsG ,   Helsingborg, Sweden   (06.10.09)
I have had the pleasure of following discussions and rants in the TB sections for some time and, really, I can't help noticing that as soon as any particular country is mentioned, somebody pops up and says " is the most antisemitic in ". Come on. They can't ALL be the most antisemitic country in the world or Europe, can they? Hmm? Bet there are worse places than Norway.
13. # 9, 10 ghostq, and 5 Joe
Tullprat ,   Oslo, Norway   (06.10.09)
# 9, 10 ghostq: What is the reason for you to claim that I hate jews? How come you think you know so much about me? Did you run out of viewpoints and decided to settle for attack of persona instead? It seems like you think that every critisism on Israel or religious slaughtering is anti-semitism. The world has developed since the tora was written, and there's better ways to kill animals these days. That has nothing to do with hatred, but enlightenment. And FYI: I don't boycott Israel, nor support the idea of boycott. ------------------------ # 5: Joe: "Has the growth of anti-Jewish feeling paralleled the growth of Norway's Muslim community or has it come as a result of media portrayals of Israel?" - The criticism on Israel has more to do with Israels politics in Palestine. In most cases it's not about hatred or anti-semitism (except for a few cases including neo-nazis and/or extreme leftists/muslims). The medias portrayal of Israel has been more negative the last years. Especially since the last war on Lebanon and on Gaza. This has paralleled the growth of Norway's Muslim community, but when people in Gaza are getting walled in behind a fence, and then later bombed - you can't expect the world not to react.

martin ,   stevenage - uk   (06.10.09)
well, not before time is it? when shots were fired at the synagogue not so long ago, nobody even attempted to visit the jewish community as a sigh of support. while the king visits the synagogue, his wife meets a virulent anti semitic imam who sworn to kill jews. oh yes and she wore a headscarf too
15. #12 Sweden is leading
Joo ,   Eurabia   (06.10.09)
Nils, of course. You completely right, Sweden even more antisemitic. Even Davis cup game is the life threat for Jewish athletes in your country nowadays.

Tullprat, you really are ignorant about your own country (and even more ignorant about Israel): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_Norway http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull&cid=1228728178155 In addition, there have been a spate of violent attacks aginst Jews recently. Shameful!
17. 13 you asume that electric
(06.11.09)
shock that paralyze the animel yet do not kills it . is less barbaric than cuting the throught of the animal cousing instant death. maybe its more clean than schhiita certainly not more progressive. iwonder howwould you feal if rockets were faling at your town everyday for 7 years. so please save us your superficial righteousness. youre not that smart
18. to #13 do you criticise other minorities
ghostq   (06.11.09)
or nations? didn't think so.
19. ...3, 2, 1 ...
NilsG ,   Helsingborg, Sweden   (06.11.09)
... yes, _SWEDEN_ is the most antisemitic country in the world/Europe. Rule proved. Cheers and thanks. Nils BTW you may be correct, Sweden has an ignoble history of racism, including antisemitism.
20. Tullprat #13
Rina   (06.11.09)
"but when people in Gaza are getting walled in behind a fence, and then later bombed - you can't expect the world not to react. " I would answer that when civilians in Sderot are subject to constant rocket barages, you can't expect Israel not to react. Regarding the world - Jewish blood is cheap for them, we are used to them not reacting.
21. to #19 did I misssed something?
ghostq   (06.11.09)
but we r talking about Norway not sweeden, allthough if you allready brought up the subject, sweeden is mega racist, during Cast Lead Israel Tennis dou won the match after the locals swidish tryed to prevent them from participate in the match, the Israelies won the turnament, and the local swidish was mad and atmosphire was lil hostile.
22. Funny to hear Norwegians preaching "animal welfare"...
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (06.11.09)
As this country has the ignominious distinction of being one of the leading whale butchers in the world.
23. Hello, ghostq
NilsG ,   Helsingborg, Sweden   (06.11.09)
Yes, you missed the first part. As soon as some (preferably European) country is mentioned in context with Jewishness, somebody is certain to claim, that that country is the most antisemitic in the world or in Europe. I said that in a talk-back after somebody claimed Norway was the most antisemitic country in the world whereupon someone else immediately said it was _SWEDEN_ was the most antisemitic country. It could have been funny if it wasn't tragic. As for Operation Cast Lead, many Swedish newspapers (at least liberal newspapers) came out in favor of Israel and the war - not all. The tennis match was another matter, unfortunately. So we have no quarrel.
24. To NilsG, Sweden
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (06.11.09)
Actually as a Jew I also find it silly that people decide one day that this country is the most anti-semitic, and the next day it's another one, and so on. This way, the term anti-semitism loses its gravity and credence, and then anti-semites are all too glad to use this for their purpose. So in order to avoid this from happening, I would suggest the following: there is no ONE country in Europe which is distinctly the most anti-semitic. However, there is a group of them which is right up there on the antisemitism scale. This group includes Norway, Sweden, Britain, France, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Greece and Turkey. I base my selection on the number of reports of antisemitic incidents reported from these countries. Of course no country is free of antisemitism, however there are some countries in which this phenomenon is considerably lower: Czech republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Holland, and Denmark. So what I'm trying to say, is that there are differences in Europe, with regards to their sentiments toward Israel and the Jews. Some countries can indeed be singled out as strongly antisemitic, while some are less. We have our large share of haters, but luckily not everybody.

"Schechita is forbidden because of the welfare of the animals. We don't allow barbaric behaviour on animals in Norway. " Norway kills large amount of WHALES, are they not animals? Funny huh! Welfare of animals. Israeli products are marked and I have seen it with my own eyes. otto jespersen is an anti-semite period, just like Norway. Just consider the fact that Norways' constitution banned jews until late 19th century. Banned? what are we animals? Please, learn arabic cause in 25 years your country will be dominated by the muslims and in two generations you will become a minority in your own country. I hope I'll be around to see how you will treat those islamic fundamentalists then?

I write this, not to insult you, but to offer a little factual information. your comments are ignorant, which is not unusual in people who will criticise israel for anyrthing and everything. i doubt, I will write all, but will respopnd in later posts to, so perhaps you may read, absorb, understand and be more knowledgeable prior to your criticisms. Sadly, the quisling legacy is alive and well in norway when it comes to the jews and their one national home. in the early 12970's, I lived in norway (having worked in danmark, sverige ogsaa norge. being a member of the oslo jewish community. the present rabbi's late father was the well known and respected chief rabbi of Denmark ( whom I was privileged to meet) We, as members purchased kosher food which had been imported from denmark including meat products. The community welcomed the newly arrived immiogrants from mainly east africa by allowing them to enter the community hall and purchase koshed meat products. Moslems are allowed to consume kosher meat. but jews should not eat hallal as we consider it no better than normal slaughter. the animals throat is slashed by manually holding it. I am not sure why fishing, hunting wild game including deer, killing wolves and the sadistic method of killing whales is more humane than the jewish slaughter of food stock. the animal is kept pennedin, so as not to be nervous, it is unable to move. a shocket (religous slaughterer) placed his long very sharp blade through the slot. this pierces the jagular vein. thereby, causing the animal to feel no pain at all, it falls asleep through no blood being allowed to the brain and is unconcious before it dies a painless death. modern methods are quite barbaric by stunning first the animal feel disorientated and panics. the topic of kashrut is just another method to disallow jewish people their human right. shame upon you
30. boycotts
martin ,   stevenage uk   (06.11.09)
boycot is a double edghes sword. i don't need to buy geitost, akvavit, lax etc from norway. swedish and danish akvavit are excellent, salmon or lax from ireland is very good. yes it will always be the extreme left that always proposed boycott of israel. i hope the swedish left doesn't push too hard for one as the largest purchasing community of vovlvos are the religious jews. they still won't buy merc or bmw. what is the difference between the fascist left and nazi right? the latter dismiss the holocaust and wish it had succeded 100% the former, sometimes love the dead jews, accept leftwing jews who they despise and hate real jews and israel. why do they hate israel? easy. with all against it, is is successful. the country sadly, is still set along mainly socialist lines, in fact israel's socialism ismore true to socialist ideals than many so called western socialist democracies. b ritain lost much business back in the 1970's because it wholheartedly accepted the arab boycott officially. today the uk is a shadow of itself. if western countries wish to boycooy israel, believe me those countries i nthe pacific are more than willing to bridge the gap. skal
