1. Well put, Yair
Ruben Malayan ,   Tel Aviv   (06.15.09)
2. lapid,
boris, ,   ny, us   (06.15.09)
don't jump to conclusions, it doesn't matter what was said, or what you wish - arabs never agree with existence if israel, jewish or otherwise, you can offer them yourself and the rest of israel - it is a no go.
3. Funny, the interpretations
Rina   (06.15.09)
It's funny how everyone interprets it the way they want to see it. Funny, or maybe Netanyahu's genius, or lack of genius.
4. An indepentent PA state means a real army and real war.
JMK ,   NYC   (06.15.09)
The Jews would died in the death camps were did not die on a higher moral plane, they did not go to a higher plane of existence, they just died frrom hate and and impotency. Funny how you see how emboldening your enemy and in effect castrating your defenses as moral, it is 100% immoral. It was 100% immoral to be unprepared in the Yom Kippur War, it was immoral to allow the Oslo Process to continue one day, it was immoral to let Hamas win an election, it was immoral to being unprepared to war against Hezbullah, etc, etc.
5. Netanyahu was conditional.
Abe ,   Los Angeles   (06.15.09)
A condition that we want to first see if the palis accept. Barak already gave all of Jerusalem away, and the palis refused because Tel Aviv was not included
6. not so fast,lapid!
oded   (06.15.09)
sevral times in the past " the palestinans " announced their statehood , either via others, or their own words..... the main point is that their state is a historical ubnormality. anyone who really examines the history of the conflict, would realize that unless israel disappears,gf, there cannot be a mutual understanding,i.e 2-states, in the land of israel. it's just an aborition.
7. Leftists Have SUCH Delusions!
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (06.15.09)
It's really quite simple: Obama put Bibi in a corner: Accept the idea of a Philistine state or else. NOBODY puts Bibi in a corner, so he agreed to it under certain conditions; conditions that won't happen in a million years. He could have just said; "I'll accept a Philistine state when hell freezes over". And then the deluded leftists would all scream; "See- even Bibi knows that it has to happen." Breaking news: It will NEVER happen. Bibi knows it. EVERYONE knows it. Except the deluded leftists.
8. we are in a different world.
Asher ( truth hurts) ,   Jerusalem   (06.15.09)
No so fast. What changed? What is so different? Everyone woke up today, the same way they did all the days before. Who are you trying to fool with"NO TURNING BACK"! Something happened? The arabs do not want peace, period. They want us in the sea. They did not except 1948. They killed King Hussein in 1951. They killed Sadat. They will kill anything that promotes peace. THERE WILL NOT BE A PAL STATE
9. #1, and the author
i ,   jerusalem   (06.15.09)
I know this is Ynet, but reality and truth must be given some weight, even if begrudgingly. a) Arab nationalism has a long history, with long cycles of ascendancy and expansion, until militarily pushed back, and then short cycles of dormancy. The Arab conquest of southern Europe, was pushed back by the Crusades. It went dormant, and reconstituted in the Ottoman empire. The British attack on the failing empire sowed the seeds of todays pan-Arabism. The current conflict is only 100 years old, and Islam is now expanding again in Europe. Thus there is no historical indication that the conflict will be paused in this generation, or even the next. b) Begin was the one who first acknowledged a palestinian state. c) given that arabs , as past actions indicate will reliably never accept less that the whole pie, or perhaps less than an arab state with an embattled Jewish ghetto in Tel Aviv, who exactly are you calling delusional? d) Arab states on the whole are little more than despotic strongholds with leaders just slightly more that glorified thugs. This is patterned after the Prophet who was really the most successful thug of his time. Would you call Gaza a state today, or if we opened the sea blockade, would you expect a state beneficial to its residents to arise? Do you regard Somalia as a state? e) Words are stronger than weapons only until leadership with the vision and will arises to put those weapons to good use. The demographic dynamic is against a recovery of Europe, but there is not the same issue here, unless Israel decides to step aside into endangered or non-existence. Good day.
10. Netanyahu mentioned nothing more than Barak in 2000
William ,   Israel   (06.16.09)
and we all know what happened next. I'm not worried. Unlike Barak, and other self-righteous Leftists who place their political career and ego ahead of the State, Netanyahu is hard-lined when it comes to Israel's existence and Jewishness. The Left continues to apologize for their own existence in this world, but would kill anyone that disagrees with them. A complete anathema to any platform they cite as their belief. Netanyahu was smart to restate the exact points that Israel made years ago, with the Pals inventing new ways to disrupt the process with more extreme demands, but nothing close to a compromise that even reflects Arafat's stance in 2000. I'm not worried for Israel. I trust in Bibi. BTW - wasn't Lapid exempted from true military duty by being a reporter for Army Radio instead due to hard pressure from his father, Yossi Lapid?
11. no turning back
debbie ,   israel   (06.16.09)
NO. 7 - Yishai Kohen You are so right. Those conditions will never happen. The Palestinians would never accept an unarmed state. That's what they're all about. What would their lives be about, if they didn't have weapons? They'll also never accept Israel as a Jewish state. So these conditions can obviously never be met. At last we have a P.M. that speaks the truth, and says it like it is. No pandering, no ass-licking, excuse the expression.
12. #7 Yishai Kohen doing his best to divide the nation
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.16.09)
As usual you do all you an to divide the Jewish nation, left - right incase you have forgotten we are all Israelis from the Ultra orthdox to the gays in tel aviv. a divided nation is a weak nation and you my friend play your part so well.
13. Well Done Bibi
Roy Chweidan ,   Netanya   (06.16.09)
Yair Lapid shows a complete lack of judgement in his analysis of Bibi,s speech. The Arabs will never ever accept the conditions laid down by Bibi for a peace process. His tactics are excellent. Roy Chweidan, Netanya
14. What Bibi Said Was "When Pigs Fly"
Brian ,   Reading, Pa, USA   (06.17.09)
Bibi made it plain that nothing moves "forward" without Arab surrender of the war. They will not surrender their war. Therefore, all Bibi said was "It's not going to happen, and this is why".
