1. Hilarious
Alon K. ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.16.09)
Hardly newsworthy, except for the fact that its news a politician speaks the truth for once.
2. Poor comparison
Simon ,   Poleg   (06.16.09)
To compare the word Arabush to 'Sand nigger' is ridiculous Arabush is a diminutive of the word for Arab albeit with derrogetoy connotation. Sand Nigger is a whole different level of offense and racism
3. Not accurate translation
H S ,   brooklyn ny   (06.16.09)
I don't think that it is an accurate translation at all. Why equate the expression to a slur against blacks when the translation has no anti black connotation. Are we trying to stir up black hatred when the comment has no relation to blacks at all. We in the US have a fine black president who is trying to bring peace to all sides. Mr. President and all blacks who see this ......... this is not an accurate translation and is a disgusting comment that has no relationship to you. May everyone learn tolerance to all..... evil people do evil regardless of race or religion and our hatred is only towards evil.
4. Arabush
M. Duvduvani ,   Tel Aviv   (06.16.09)
I speak fluent hebrew and Arabush does not mean, nor does it have the ugly connotations as the word the writer of this article used to translate it into English.
5. Translation
Moshe ,   Tel Aviv   (06.16.09)
I for one think the translation is good enough. "Sand n...." is a derogatory term for an Arab (it is not to be confused with nigg**, which refers to blacks. This is a seperate term that relates specifically to Arabs). Arabush is also a derogatory term for Arab - here in Israel when someone calls someone "arabush" we know exactly what it means - as the story says it's an "equiovalent", and most ceratinly an inappropriate word used by the minister
6. Lieberman this, Lieberman that
Jake   (06.16.09)
Why is that Lieberaman is the lightning rod for all disparaging comments that Ahmed Tibi and the Arab MK's have to say against Israel? Why, because Lieberman proposes a limit to the disloyalty that can be legimitately displayed by a citizen of the State of Israel? And who is the media translator who deceptively rendered 'Arabush' as 'sand nigger'? This is the quintessential example of the state of accuracy in the media today.
7. A racist insult whether or not a 100% accurate translation!!
David ,   Los Angeles   (06.16.09)
8. To all you apologists
Proud Jew ,   Israel   (06.16.09)
way to go, deflecting attention from the main issue, the fact that a minister used a blatantly racist slur (and anyone living in Israel will tell you that it is obviously a very negative term, which evokes the same connotation as sand nigger. I guess they could translated it as fu**ing Arab, or something ilke that, but it really makes no different, the point of the story was conveyed.
9. Hypocritical Talkbackers Complain of Mistranslation
Dan ,   NY   (06.16.09)
So if the late Haider in Austria had referred to someone dirty as looking like a real "little Yidl" you would be OK with this "diminutive" term for a dirt-covered Jew? And tell us that it's OK because "nigger" would not be an accurate translation??? Where have you disgusting racist Israelis done to Am Yisroel??? You should be ashamed of yourselves. You are a Chillul Hashem and a disgrace to our people and our holy Torah!!!!
10. arabush is horrible thing to say...
damien ,   tel aviv israel   (06.16.09)
to compare angroup of people or person to george bush is intolerable. is there no end to atrocities committed by israel
11. Typical Behavior For An Rightwing Israeli
World Citizen ,   the world   (06.16.09)
I love it when this happens. It just shows the civilized world what kind of culture is fostered in Israel. Everyone is a "sand nigger" if they are not one of God's chosen special little minority.
12. LIES--Arabush doesn't mean that
Antonio ,   Haifa   (06.16.09)
Yes, it is a derogatory term for "Arab", but doesn't mean what the article claims it does. Good job Ynet, in spreading disinformation and tarnishing the country's image. Aharonovich simply used a slang term, and he's got nothing to apologize for. If Arabs don't like it here, they are far far more than welcome to look for greener pastures elsewhere.
13. slow news day...put in a stormy little tea pot!
(06.16.09)
while "Arabush" isn't politically correct, "Sand Nigger" is much too harsh a translation! Mostly this is the media just wheel spinning!
14. not a slur, but a fact. tong slip or not.
sami ,   son of palestine   (06.16.09)
15. you'd wonder if an arab called him a dirty Je**
sami ,   son of palestine   (06.16.09)
it would be on world news
16. round two from #3
hs ,   brooklyn   (06.16.09)
Of course the point is obvious that the politician is wrong...... the point is that if we translated it to filthy arab the point is made. Why make the jews sound like black haters ? He didn't say the word black at all. Again my regards to President Obama.........
17. #8,9 This is not racist, nothing to do with skin color
Antonio ,   Haifa   (06.16.09)
And our religious scriptures don't require us to be "nice" to the enemy. On the contrary, we celebrate our enemies downfall, as when we curse the Egyptian pharaoh on Pesah, or Haman on Purim. The minister was right. He should not have apologized.
18. #10. In that case, please leave!
Jake   (06.16.09)
19. #11. What is "an Rightwing Israeli"?
Jake   (06.16.09)
20. #15 This is on world news, genius
Jake   (06.16.09)
As is your lame talkback reply.
23. nothing to apologize for!!!
oded   (06.16.09)
24. #20 hate to brake this to you
sami ,   son of palestine   (06.17.09)
ynet is not "world news". get out of your shell. the world do not evolve around you
25. Ridiculous translation
Dov ,   Netanya   (06.17.09)
Arabush means 'little Arab' a dimuitive term for Arab. Just as 'Yehudon' (Little Jew) is a diminutive word for a Jew. Both are used as derogatory terms with offensive connotations however all of this is far removed from 'Sand Nigger' which I hope most realise is a far more offensive term on a number of levels. In any case none of this terminology should be used by a minister.
26. Wrong Interpretation
Alice ,   in Castrated land US   (06.17.09)
Reverse Racism exists!
27. #15 you shouldn't talk
(06.17.09)
have you seen recent articles on jews in arab newspapers? have you seen recent plays about jews in arab television? have you seen articles about jews in arab newspapers? have you listen to sermons by your clerics in your mosques lately and for hundreds of years????? just go take a peek and look at everything bhappening about jews in your arab society and lands. believe me, it is much more damaging, insulting, perc=verted and venomous that this slip of the tongue. just google memri.org to see what your arab papers, media, politicians call jews who are always the sons of pigs and apes, according to your society. hameed aboughaze
28. shame!
zionist ,   israel   (06.17.09)
people who escaped racism and persecution are THEMSELVES racists - shame on israel!!!
29. How about "jew boy" as a translation?
Mahmoud A ,   Teheran   (06.17.09)
30. Keep it comming !
