1. Deadly mix
John ,   Boise, Idaho, USA   (06.19.09)
What is seen in Iran today reverberates the old adage that a country never rises above their concept of God. Inner turmoil will be the result and history will show the events in Iran as a classic example of it. The Iranian common people will not let the ayatollahs and the mullahs control their lives. They want freedom to raise their families.
2. Islamic Dissolution of Iran!
Jewish Refugee   (06.19.09)
Now that would be huge blow to the terrorists who have been supported by this regime. If the Mullah Regime self-destructs it would tremendous amount of consequences. That means less suicide bombers in Iran and Afghanistan; that means neither Hezbollah nor Hamas; but above all it means freedom to the people of Iran who deserve better lives. WHO WILL WIN THIS STRUGGLE AMONG THE WOLFES ???, - A WOLF OF CAUSE- !!!. Orao.
4. Pretty insightful

This is one of the rare foreign affairs analyses on Ynet that's actually intelligent. Bravo!
5. Who cares? Both will soon be in hell next to their false god

6. It is an excuse for Iranian by supporting the Musavi
e.m.Jordan is Palest ,   s.f   (06.20.09)
Those 4 candidates that have chosen by the supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei that all of them are believes in him, the reason Iranian is supporting Musavi is because it is the only opportunity for them to show to entire world that they are against that extreme fanatic’s regime and believe me the moment Musavi will realize that what is going on he will do all his best to stop his supporters and will support the chosen President Mahmmod Ahmadinejad ,NO it is not war between Khamenei and Rafsanjani but I have no doubt that the regime already have chosen some of her opponent to sacrifice them that to show to the other oppositions groups that if they don’t stop they will be execute too.
7. Iranian democracy, freedoms matter little to me...
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (06.20.09)
...If along with these freedoms, they'll still keep their regular stance regarding the "Zionist entity", their support of Hizbullah, and their quest for a nuclear bomb. If they elect a supposedly 'moderate' leader that continues this approach, then in the bottom line this is zero progress. So in order to gain my sympathy for their revolution, the Iranians must support a leader who would end the existential threat posed by their country to mine.
8. #2 on dissolution
publius ,   USofA   (06.20.09)
You are right about consequences and very much inapt at reaching the conclusion of less terrorism, if anything it would likely mean unrestricted terrorism. Since it follows that terror proxy groups are beholden to a central authority, removing that authority does not mean the proxy will follow but will now likely chart its own course of action.
9. Very simple, it is all about robbing Iran's wealth
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (06.20.09)
Rafsanjani the billionaire is the better businessman of the wicked bunch taking for himself and cronies the bigger part of Iran's natural resources . Now the other thieves are waking up demanding an increasing share of the Iranian people's assets, and Rafsanjani is probably refusing to give up on his economic control in Iran. This is what the internal conflict is about and it split the Mullahs into two camps fielding different candidates to assure each one of them their goal of stealing as much as possible.
10. #8 True but?
Jewish Refugee   (06.20.09)
For how long? Any organization even a terrorist organization needs financial sponsoring. If Hezbollah did not start rebuilding South Lebanon after 2006 with Iranian money do you think that people would have been happy. Do you think Syria would start building nuclear reactor if it sees dissolution of Iran? Do you think Hamas would have any bargaining power left? MONEY MONEY MONEY not the weapons that is sinews of wars as one philosophers once said.
11. Who will succeed Khamenei?
Cynthia ,   USA   (06.20.09)
I suspect this is also part of the power struggle. Khamenei is old and said to suffer from several medical problems. Visible is post stroke paralysis and severe rheumatoid arthritis. His successor must be a cleric and surely Rafsanjani will vie for the job. He's lining up his supporters.
12. #7 - Tahl - they want to end the threat
Sheri ,   rockville usa   (06.20.09)
From what i see from Iranian contacts online in the rare time they could.... they feel good about Israel and want their gvt to stop this presentation to the world that draws disfavor. They need us outside there to support them. The regime is tainted in many Persian's eyes. It's a matter of time, long or short. But the Iranian people majority aren't about Israel, or nuclear power. They are about democracy & being a part of the world. We Jews used to live so well in Iran. They remember it (they say to me) & we remember too.

Your analysis places the people's reaction no place in it. When you add that somewhere, your thoughts on it will make much more sense.

Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (06.20.09)
I was addressing my understanding of what happened within the ruling elite, from bits of information that leaked out over the years. The people taking advantage of this to free themselves from their yoke is something else.
15. WAR OF THE WEENIES
Petra ,   uSA   (06.20.09)
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE MILITARY SIDESW/ THE PEOPLE??
16. #10 but what? money
publius ,   USofA   (06.20.09)
The money has already been well spent, meaning if the money dries up terror groups are already well armed, and if anything the most madden thing about terrorism is just how cheap it is, since the true currency of terrorism is not money but faith. so the old adage that money makes the world go around pales in comparison to the recast of faith makes the world go around. Do you honestly believe that if the money dried up that the current force levels of terror groups don't not have the means to spark an event(s) that starts the ball rolling towards an a general war, once started the dried up money will start again flowing to feed the passions of hate. I think what I am trying to say, is that the fall of a major sponcer of terrorism, requires admission that terror groups may have or are close to having the one thing that changes the balance of the equation, all it takes is one nuke. without a nuke the balance sheet of money drying up to substain operations is correct, the terror organs will dry up and/or expend themselves however with a nuke who needs vast resources to substain the conflict. It is an end game scenario, and who is to say the signal for unfettered terrorist actions( the plot their own coarse premiss) against israel has to be initated by events in the middle east. You put the cart before the horse, by asserting money is the root of what substains this conflict, money simply flows to the will/desire which in simplistic terms is substained by the hatred. You can not be that navie to the realization that to substain hatred sometimes requires little more than a bowl and some food and for some not even that already well feed on an ideology of hatred.
17. What happens is...
publius ,   USofA   (06.20.09)
The newly reorganized iran govt. can now claim, it wasn't us it was the old govt. Think of it this way... if the theoracy of iran has plotted a coarse to war against israel, well the likely outcome is universal destruction of their country, so by taken that outcome for a given, a new flag run up the pole in iran, a war now unfolds as the result of actions that can not be squarely attributed to the new govt., so any unconventual responce by israel, will likely be meet with universal, world wide condemnation, the distruction is the same as if the blame(source) is iran, yet this time support for israel, or what is left of israel, is wiped away. who says, iran must be the source of a terror organizations nuke anyway, but once it is used the reprocussion might as well be the as if iran did supply the bomb. Given israel's prevailing focus on its beligent neighbors, it is easy to lose sight of bigger picture that quite possible the truth in all the strife going on in the world is driven by totalitarian, oligarchical interests arrayed agianst the very embodiments that people desire to be free and not slaves to the whims of the few. There is much to be said that freedom is an illusion, and what a war against democracy represents is the forcing of that illusion to be dropped. Right now the only thing I have is the faith that the trust placed in the hands of free govts is prepared to prevail... so what it comes down to is USofA an illusion or truely an 8000lb spring ready to trapped the totalitarians of the world once and for all time. My faith tells me they have not seen nothing yet. remember it is not what think you know it is what you don't know that counts. Sixty years of investment into 'skunk works' projects has to have produced a winning combination, otherwise we are just an illision that had it time.
18. #16 and #17
Jewish Refugee   (06.21.09)
When the Soviet Union existed there were two camps suffice it to say communist vs. capitalist (oversimplified) but when the Soviet Collapsed the free market took over the world most of the Eastern European countries embraced new system. Most Eastern European countries despise Russia. The only country that remained committed is Cuba the rest went down the hill. If Iran is gone that would take out a significant player out! Let me make myself clear when I say Iran is out, I meant the Theocratic Regime is gone. As far as money it is important, people need to eat, they need to rebuild war caused destruction, after all they need money to start war or fight that war. I don’t think that Hezbollah could have put that show in 2006 if they were fighting with chopsticks.
19. The Ayatollas, the scourge of mankind.
roberto   (06.21.09)
Iran belongs to the people, the common people, and not the fanatic gang of dictators, mullahs, ayatollahs and the other rif-raf, who's only " RAISON D'ETRE " is POWER. And, the hell with the "natives" and the rest of the world. I think the thugs mentioned above should be dealt the same way they prescribe punishment for women. " stoning t'il death does us part ". Let them have a taste of some of their own medicines, their own justice.
