alexander tel-aviv   (06.23.09)
And someone names Syria "the major player and powerborker in the region". Are they really? Another despotic, unelected regime, that keeps its people on a short leash and only excels in harbouring terrorist and supplying weapons to them? Why does this world take seriously Syria, a country known as a catastpohe?
4. Maybe if he'd stop relying on spell-check all of the time
Ypip ,   Canada   (06.23.09)
and try to understand the causes of a "dysfunctional constitutional framework' in the first place ~ he'd get somewhere.
5. Interesting numbers
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.23.09)
The average Syrian income is less than the aid going to the average 'Palestinian'.

8. 80 yrs ago, their ancestors migrated, became "Palestinians"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (06.23.09)
There's a piece in today's Elder of Ziyon blog reproducing articles from long ago describing the mass migration of Arabs, experiencing drought and economic deprivation migrating in huge numbers into the only locale they could find work - Mandate Palestine. Worth recalling whenever anyone suggests today's Palestinians have "always been here". http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com . Scroll to the section "Today's Syrian drought - and the Hauranites"

10. IF THEY HAD KIBBUTZ SYSTEM - WOULD BE NO PROBLEM
Andrew ,   Miami,FL   (06.23.09)
THE MONKEY ASAD WOULD RATHER HATE ISRAEL THAN ADOPT HER PROVEN METHODS TO HELP HIS OWN COUNTRY TO ANY SYRIANS READING THIS - GET RID OF THIS BUY AND HIS BAATH REGIME - YOU DESERVE BETTER AND LEARN HOW TO MAKE A KIBBUTZ - THEN YOU WONT STARVE
11. The Syrian catatrophe - Iran's friend.
julio   (06.23.09)
If the figures are correct, Syria is a "basket case". Changes needed?, of course. 1) stop spending $$$ for worthless weapons 2) stop spending $$$ supporting terrorists 3) elect someone who cares about Syria, it's people, and not themselves 4) too many Generals, too many bureaucrats, too many Imams & Mullahs, too many people collecting millions $ and doing nothing The average Palestinian makes more money begging (you should try it) - Stupid EU, UN, US. And stop showing-off on the world stage. Remember, you are a "basket case". Make peace with Israel, and your luck will change. Try it, you will like it. All the self inflicted wounds will heal. You've tried everything else, and failed. Just don't try N.Korea, the Soviets, Mao's China disastrous policies -- 10, 20, 30 millions (no one knows) of their populations where left to starve to death. Make the changes now, before it's too late.

i ,   jerusalem   (06.23.09)
kicking out an industrious Jewish community, running a thug proprietary government, exporting terrorism, and sticking your nose in everybody's business is guaranteed to reap poverty and marginalization. Look at Spain, or any non-oil producing Arab "state"
14. All they have to do to survive is "remove" baby
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.23.09)
arsedad and if #12 can't figure out the spelling, I can. Very clever Debbie in Toronto.

Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (06.23.09)
phone number to the Israeli agriculture minster. You people seem to do just fine with fewer resources and the same regional climate. Maybe he'll even show up at your next farm science review. Just don't count on him caring for his people more than he hates you though.
16. Smallest number of needy families is in Quneitra
Jake   (06.24.09)
which borders Israel. Funny, that. The Syrians had said so many times that Israel had destroyed and 'ethnically cleansed' the Quneitra area, that Israel had planted mines and prevented Syrians from living in that area, that Israel had diverted water and caused those border areas to be dry and impoverished, that Israel had "raped the lands" of that area so they could no longer be used for agriculture. Now the Syrians are saying that it is the least impoverished area in Syria. My, my. Syria is a country of such paradoxes!
17. Syrian poverty
felix dotan ,   canada   (06.24.09)
but they have enough funds to purchase arms from Russia. Let them make peace with Israel and the corridor between Damscus and Golan can be the next vacation resort.

and how much would the world have saved?????
19. This is what starts wars
Yaakov Hillel ,   Lavi   (06.24.09)
the blame falls on the government who in turn blames the Jews/Israel ,If the country is about to overthrow its government the easiest solution is war. Then the people are to busy to deal with revolutions and because the Jews are always to blame the coutry will recieve great amount of reparations of which most will line the pockets of the corrupt leaders, as in Gaza and elsewhere.
20. if only they get the golan back, then of course

21. must be israel's fault...
Danny   (06.25.09)

22. Why should I care about starving Syrians?
Hymie Zoltsveis ,   NYC   (06.25.09)
