1. right on!
Ruben ,   Tel Aviv   (06.24.09)
Its about time to put corrupted politicians in jail. Let this be a lesson to those who will follow the same road - stealing from his own people.
2. i am hollier than thou
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.24.09)
If your going to go round judging and slandering others and preaching " i am hollier than thou" at least practice what you preach! Hope he finds himself a big butch arab boyfriend to pass those lonely nights. Good ridence to bad rubbish !
3. What the Torah says about bribery
Larry G. ,   Hamilton, Canada   (06.24.09)
I'm quoting the JPS (Jewish Publication Society) original English edition of Exodus 23:8 And thou shalt take no gift; for a gift blindeth them that have sight, and perverteth the words of the righteous. Now, I'm quoting the modern JPS version of Exodus 23:8 Do not take bribes, for bribes blind the clear-sighted and upset the pleas of the just. And now to quote myself: If you take a bribe, you're a schmuck and you deserve to get caught!
4. May be Shas start understand that Israel isn't Arab country.
Alex ,   Ariel   (06.24.09)
5. Edmond Levy - we need more judges like you
Talula ,   Israel   (06.24.09)
I admire your backbone and integrity. I'm absolutely elated to read this. The slimy bastard is going down for four years. Music to my years. Not just because he's religious, I'd feel the same for a secular who committed the same crime. Being a “religious” man makes it all the more worse. People in the Knesset who abuse power, commit bribery, steal and commit other despicable acts should be slammed up, made to pay back what they stole and NEVER allowed back in the Knesset, not even on a guided tour.
6. the stealing of Govt. money, our money
phil   (06.24.09)
Why is it that when a Govt. crook is caught with hands in the "cookie jar ",the sentence is usually " lite ". The fine in this case is 250.000 NIS. The article, if accurate, makes no mention of giving back the millions in perks received. Did our not so glorious former Finance Minister and thief gave back the millions he stole? Anyone with a logical answer, and not a wisecrack. Please.
7. sentence
colin   (06.24.09)
ONLY 4 YEARS Still obtaining the protection of politians. This parasite never did work, never went to the army to protect his country(i hope he believes Israel is his home as a jew)Never paid taxes always been a parasite. He now cries for his family.Never thought he would get caught!!! Let him rot in prison
8. Chilul Hashem
David ,   Yerushalayim   (06.24.09)
Benizri - Take off your kippa. It is a Chilul Hashem for someone who behaves as you do, to appear religious.
9. There ARE judges in Jerusalem!!!
Amihai ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.24.09)
10. Kol Ha-Kavod - Justice is seen to be done!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.24.09)
11. maybe I am naive or dumb
Ilana   (06.24.09)
I just cannot understand how a kippa wearing man, who is religious, can commit crimes. So whatis the religion supposed to do for us? It does not make us any better, apparently.
12. The ripping of the Holy Land
jules   (06.24.09)
After years bending over holy books in a heder or yeshiva, with a bit of shnorring, I am assuming that the 2 unsavory characters have decided that a better way has to be found. And they did, very, very rewarding. Beats all the books.....! I only hope that after all the hoopla, they will not be released for the usual flimsy excuse "good behavior
13. Benizri decries his punishment:
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (06.24.09)
One of the characteristics of a psychopath is to evince no genuine remorse, to rationalize criminal behaviours, to twist oneself into the "victim" role and to refuse to take responsibility. As a practicing professional psychologist in the forensic (psychology and the law) field, now retired, I witnessed a good deal of such attitudes. The stress of dealing with these false consciousnesses (I was normally hired by the defense) began to eat at me and eventually I had to leave the field entirely as it was internally very damaging. I am sure that Benziri's close associates and family members have also been damaged due to close association with his (Benziri's) ongoing and undiminished psychopathic behaviour.
14. Good!
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (06.24.09)
A lengthy prison sentence is precisely what you have earned, Mr. Benizri. I just hope that the Israeli legal system will finally apply these legal standards to *all* MK's, Ehud Olmert included! This culture of accepted corruption in our parliament has gone on for too long.
15. 14
israel   (06.24.09)
we have knesset not parliament.
16. I wonder.................
Wise Saba ,   Netivot   (06.24.09)
If he was Ashkenazi, would he have recieved the same sentence or even charged at all?
17. not harsh enough, he need more years
ghostq   (06.24.09)
in the big house to ponder how to practise the bible, start with THOU SHAL NOT STEAL.
18. MK Ben Izri
Russ ,   Israel   (06.24.09)
I hope during the time he sits, he'll think about all of the hatred he has taught in the name of our beautiful religion. How instead of teaching understanding, he has preached distrust and how he has caused discord and hatred among people. He is an evil man.
19. # 16 not so wise saba
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.24.09)
Do me a favor that exscuse has been played a bit to much by those who claim to represent the law and religious values who at the very same time flaunting the very same laws they claim to represent. The only victim here is the Israeli public ! and those vulnerable people that have lost the basic human ability to determine right from wrong in other words your typical Shas voter.
20. #16 Hirschon just got 5 years you Moron
Talula ,   Israel   (06.24.09)
Take the chip off your shoulder, it's so last season.
21. to #16 actually Hirshzon got 5 years in
ghostq   (06.24.09)
while this turd got 4 that answer your Q, mmm someone enjoy playing the victim here, you sound like the palis.
22. justice
dan ,   Jerusalem   (06.24.09)
Ofcourse he will say he was innocent as if he ever said he committed a crime shas would not talk to him. One thing i do not like recently is people always complaining the race card that he is sephardi. There maybe some truth to things but if you steal or take a bribe you shoulod be punished. I think a nw law needs to be passed before we have the next government to say if you have anny convictions you can not stand as an MK. even if you have served the sentace and now a free man. Secondly if there is truth to a possible conviction one must go on leave from being an MK until issue is resolved.
23. #15 The Knesset is the parliamentary body of Israel.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (06.24.09)
24. How strange Eli Yishai and Ovadia Yosef are speachless
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.24.09)
How strange mr morals himself Eli Yishai and his royal holliness Ovadia Yosef have suddenly fallen silent ? Still must be a big day for Shas sending their prodocol sons to prison while the rest of us send our sons to university and to the army.
25. Memo to Talula: Judge Edmond Levy is an Orthodox Jew!!
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (06.24.09)
He wears a kippa. You just admired a religious Jew. Betchya, you didnt know he was! Fact is: slime comes is all shapes, all colors and all religious levels. And the bottom line is that most people accross the religious landscape, from most secular to most Hareidi, are really decent.
26. Blaze talkbacks
Joyce ,   USA   (06.24.09)
All the talkbacks have "accused" so bluntly when he/she does not know circumstances! This is unfair. Now you are the "acusee", you might some day become the"accused". Bottom line: The system is obviously corrupt. If an individual takes bribes, it is indeed not honorable, but how does that compare with homosexuality? Is this prevalent or not? That is the question.
27. bye , bye Benizri , very good riddance
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.24.09)
Who will be the next shas guy in jail ? Not only did he go against civil law , but also against his god's ones . He should have be punished twice 4 years . And what will shas do when he goes free ? Probably Receive him as an hero and not expell him .
