31. Are you for real, Sarah?
Cameron ,   USA   (06.25.09)
Are you actually serious when you imply that Nixon waited for Israeli success on the battlefield before deciding to airlift vast amounts of military aid to make up for what Israel had lost on the battlefield? Honey, as I said earlier, Israel got caught resting on its laurels, did not take the Arabs as seriously as it should have (remember the Bar Lev fortifications, for example) , and had it's nose seriously bloodied as a result. Sarah, if the US were that ice-cold cynical & Realpolitik toward Israel, we would have walked away from you in the 50s. Spare me the sacred "See how no one does right by the Jews" routine. As always, the US always comes through for Israel when affairs get heavy enough, and the howls from Tel Aviv shake the walls. Truth be told, you come off as more of a "knife in the back" type than Nixon.
32. #31..CAMERON ...WHAT THE HECK IS YOUR PROBLEM !
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (06.25.09)
#31..CAMERON .... YOU ARE TOO FULL OF YOURSELF TO RESPECT THE OPINIONS OF OTHERS. NO TRUTH OR FACTS ARE GOING TO BE ACCEPTED BY #31 . CAMERON......HE HAS MADE HIS DECISIONS BASED ON WHAT HE " NEEDS " OR WANTS TO BELIEVE. #31. CAMERON BERATES OTHERS' FACTS AND HE INSULTS OTHERS IN ORDER TO FURTHAR HIS OWN AMATEURISH INTERPRETATIONS OF REALITY AND HISTORY. BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE WITH OTHER YNET POSTERS CAMERON, DOES NOT MAKE YOU CORRECT, NOR DOES IT GIVE YOU A LICENCE TO INSULT OTHERS HERE ON YNET. ALEXANDER HAIG IS A REAL HERO, AND DESERVES MUCH PRAISE. KISSINGER AND NIXON BOTH DECIDED THAT THEY WANTED ISRAEL TO BLEED A LITTLE MORE. MORE ISRAELI CASUALTIES WERE NEEDED UNTILL THEY WOULD SEND REPLACEMENT WEAPONRY AND PARTS. IN THE MEANTIME, ARIEL SHARON, IN A DARING AND BRILLIANT MOVE, ENCIRCLED THE ENTIRE EGYPTIAN 3RD ARMY. KISSINGER HIMSELF SAID IN A TELEVISED INTERVIEW, THAT HE WAS ON THE PHONE A NUMBER OF TIMES WITH GOLDA MEIR TO PERSUADE OR RATHER TO COERCE HER INTO NOT HARMING THE ENTRAPPED EGYPTIAN 3RD ARMY SOLDIERS. KISSINGER REASONED THAT ISRAEL MUST ALLOW EGYPT TO SAVE FACE BY NOT HARMING THE EGYPTIAN 3RD ARMY. THIS "SAVING OF FACE " FOR EGYPT WAS THE REASONNING OF NIXON AND KISSINGER. SADAT WOULD BE MORE INCLINED TO PURSUE PEACE WITH ISRAEL IF HE WAS CONVINCED THAT ISRAEL HAD BEEN BLOODIED BY EGYPT. AND NOW SADAT COULD NEGOTIATE WITH ISRAEL AS A " PROUD EQUAL " WARRIOR LEADER WHOSE TROOPS HE BELIEVED " DID WELL" AGAINST ISRAEL.
33. #31.CAMERON -- ISRAEL SAVED ITSELF !!
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (06.25.09)
CAMERON STATES THAT .......... "Nixon certainly saved Israel's ass during the Yom Kippur war " NOT TRUE CAMERON. ! ISRAEL SAVED ITSELF BY THE COURAGE AND INGENUITY OF IT'S MILITARY LEADERS AND BY THE COURAGE OF ISRAELI SOLDIERS. OTHER COUNTRIES LIKE SOUTH KOREA, GERMANY, KUWAIT, SAUDI ARABIA , IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, AND OTHERS ACTUALLY NEED U.S TROOPS ON THE GROUND TO SAVE THEIR "TUCHAS" . YOU CAN SEE OR READ THIS VERY CLEARLY EVERY DAY ON THE NEWS. ISRAEL DOES NOT ASK FOR 200,000 U.S TROOPS TO FIGHT FOR THEM OR PROTECT THEM LIKE THE OTHER COUNTRIES THAT WE MENTIONED HERE. ISRAEL IS INDEPENDENT AND ISRAELI SOLDIERS FIGHT ISRAEL'S OWN BATTLES ! SO CAMERON , JUST WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM ? AND JUST WHAT IS BUGGING YOUR "TUCHAS" CAMERON ?
34. Past is Past but why doesn't Obama like Jews who vote him in
observer   (06.25.09)
isn't he himself a first or second hand migrant? the question of disloyalty was solved by Kennedy and arms aid flooded Israel. Lyndon Johnson was more than righteous Zionist in say and deeds. Nixon was more loyal Zionist than Kissinger.
35. Just gunning for a complete, & honest take, ABRAHAM
Cameron ,   USA   (06.25.09)
If you're going to look at a picture, look at it in it's fullness. Simply because I raise facts & realities you don't dig on hearing, hardly renders them invalid, or on the level of raw "insults". As far as I can see, I operate on YNET no worse than any other character showing up to speak on this & that, ABRAHAM. Oh, the Israelis have done well in the formal, state-to-state wars of the past decades, but as I mentioned earlier, Israelis were just a bit too full of themselves after 67, were resting on their laurels, and took one hell of a hammering when Yom Kippur opened. Ultimately, Israel turned the tables, and the Arab coalition got a proper stomping at the end of the day, but Israel took a real knock upside the head when that war began, and Israelis were anything but confidant they could emerge victorious at the sart of it all. Bear in mind that the "Eternally Triumphant Jewish State" is one hell of a shaky concept, and that history offers enough examples of wars in which the Jewish state had the living sh** kicked out of it by other powers. Yom Kippur had Israel playing it just too close to the line, and Israel's dubious experiences in S. Lebanon & Gaza are clear warnings as to the danger of copping some sort of "Forever Victorious" posture in the ME as the years go by. If it's any comfort, I 've always swung behind Israel, but tend to get a bit cynical & weary of the BS , self-righteous pompousness which does tend to crop up on YNET at times, ABRAHAM. If guilty of having an "attitude", you & Sarah stand right at my side.
36. I do NOT think that Nixon is antisemitic in this conversatio
Mauricio Schnayder ,   America   (06.26.09)
37. To: No. 31
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (06.26.09)
"Are you actually serious when you imply that Nixon waited for Israeli success on the battlefield before deciding to airlift vast amounts of military aid to make up for what Israel had lost on the battlefield?" I implied nothing of the sort. I stated that the United States waited until the Arabs were facing ignominious defeat and a clear Israel threat to take Cairo and Damascus before agreeing to supply Israel with needed spare parts. "Honey, as I said earlier, Israel got caught resting on its laurels, did not take the Arabs as seriously as it should have (remember the Bar Lev fortifications, for example) , and had it's nose seriously bloodied as a result." Bloodied our nose, eh? So what happened to the United States at the hands of a handful of rag-tag barefoot Somali warlords? I'll tell you -- you got your asses kicked. Shades of tiny little men in black pajamas in Vietnam. Israel lost over 2,000 soldiers -- a huge loss -- while fighting a war on two fronts. Egyptian and Syrian losses numbered in the hundreds of thousands. "Sarah, if the US were that ice-cold cynical & Realpolitik toward Israel, we would have walked away from you in the 50s." Actually, the U.S. never paid much attention to Israel until following the Six-Day War in 1967. The U.S. did, however, walk away from Israel (and England, and France) following the 1956 Sinai Campaign, in which Israel kicked some serious Egyptian ass. You all thought that Egypt would therefore not nationalize the Suez Canal. More fool you. Egypt did. Realpolitik, Cameron, has never been an American strength. "As always, the US always comes through for Israel when affairs get heavy enough, and the howls from Tel Aviv shake the walls." Actually, although I wouldn't refer to them as "howls," they would be properly referred to as coming from Jerusalem, which is -- as I trust (or hope) you know -- the capital of Israel (face it, darlin', no one says "coming from Liverpool" or "coming from Atlanta." Give Israel the same respect.
38.  Kissinger decided Foreign Policy in those days...
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (12.12.10)
...and being Jewish didn't want to be seen by the American people as rushing to Israel's aid.... hence let Israel bleed. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2815881561030958784# Cameron is right about complacency within the Israeli leadership and Intelligence.. especially regarding air supremacy. SAM 6 & 7's gave Egypt and Syria an early edge against us, back up with the latest Soviet anti-tank systems. Thank G-d we learnt something from that..it was a close shave..and yes, grateful for American help... "On October 13, 1973, a week after the invasion but only nine hours after President Nixon ordered the first emergency resupply operation, a C-5A loaded with 193,000 pounds of cargo was on its way to Israel. All the American equipment that reached Israel before the ceasefire of October 24 arrived by air, and MAC C-5As flew 145 missions in less than two weeks. Twenty-nine of these missions airlifted vitally-needed M48 and M60 tanks, cargo that could be carried only by the C-5A. " (GlobalSecurity.org)
