And when will they build decent housing and build up the economy for their beloved brothers in Gaza?

3. I wonder how much $27B can do for...
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (06.25.09)
... the millions of hungry and illiterate in the Muslim heavens around the world... But it seems that under Islam, it is OK to build opulent edifices while sending millions to be killed in your name, for a false dream and for a inhumane cause. And guess WHO will be supplying plans, support, engineering and management for building that tower - A HUGE TEAM OF INFIDELS, (many of them even Jews, God forbid). So even this, is not a "Muslim achievement" and will have a Jewish touch after all...
4. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. This will make a

nice target for some suicide bomber on an airline with a kooran in his pocket.
5. #1 Bin Talal is a friend of Palestine
Nour ,   Palestin   (06.25.09)
His donations (to Palestinian institutions, developments, and the national airline) are well known. I'm also 100% certain that he would be at the forefront of Arab investments in Palestine once we have our state and we will. Bin Talal is no fool, he knows the Middle East will be the growth engine of the world for a LONG time to come. I would only urge him to invest more in the Saudi youth, many of whom are jobless with their education not put to good use. Would also ask him to put more pressure on the Saudi monarchy for deep-reaching education reforms. The current emphasis on literally-inspired faith is such a waste and an abomination in itself. Walid, hayyak 'Allah!

7. #5 Now I understand
(06.25.09)
Why your religion and your people is in darkness: you find what this guy is doing to be "normal"... Disgusting: $27bn for a tower is a stupid investment: if he would have invested it in research, education, the arab world would be different... And you will have probably a state by now. You dont see that he is keeping you in poverty and that's funny... Walid, hayyak 'Allah! LOOOL

you, as well as most people, know fully well that the arab regimes have never been on the palestinians' side. nor have they ever given anything in terms of support with citizenship, jobs, equality and human dignity, to palestinians residing in their countries.....with the exception of jordan which is truly the proposed since 1947, palestinian state. you know well that most arab regimes have either kicked out the palestinians (s.a. after they supported sadaam hussein in the us iraq war), syria, after their hama massacre of 30,000 pals. egypt after closing its rafah borders to the needy pals. jordan after murdering multitudes of pals during arafat's days in jordan. lebanon, etc.... all these countries, should they have really cared for their pal brothers, which are arabs!!!! would have never put them in concentration camps, refugee camps, indoctrinated them for hate, made them into terrorists and suicide bombers, never gave them jobs, identity, nationality and citizenship.....all in the name of keeping and training a poor, uneducated population to fight a terror war against the jewish state since they knew that it can never be defeated militarily. now, this is abuse and an abomination of the term humanity and equal rights. arab regimes giving money with the motivation to train in terrorism, supply the terror channel, the terror education in the school, the terror media and hateful incitement payed off....but it didn't improve one once of palestinians' lives and quality of life, economy and education. it made them a terror base pure and simple, a society fragmented by hate and war, a society devoid of any civility, of any dreams for the future, a desperate politically fragmented society that arab made sure will be ruled by leaders that can do their dirty deeds such as arafat, hamas, fateh, hizbullah, etc.... it is precicely these arab regimes that stood in the way of palestinian society for the past 61 years and you know it! they used them, they abused them and they indoctrinated them to be nothing but a violent unproductive society. no wonder they have no dreams. no wonder they produced nothing so far. it is convenient to blame israel....but from 1947- 1967, there was no "occupation", no settlements, no israeli presence in both gaza and the west bank including east jerusalem...yet, there was poverty, pal concentration camps, no economy, no inductry, no civic society and institutions, no civil society, no riches but only poverty, no education, no banking, no freedom, no democracy, no building of infrastructure, etc... why is that??? because your arab brothers loved you so much?????? it is only after the so called "occupation" that palestinians in the west bank before the intifada, could finally breath a modicom of freedom. israel built universities, water infrastructure, streets, roads, civic institution, schools, hospitals, etc...among many many improvements. the west bank trade started and ended being the highest increasing trade in the world and palestinians in the west bank started educating themselves, enjoyinng a freer society and modernity and access to clean water, electricity, etc.... after the violence and intifada brought on by arafat when ge was given permission to come back from africa by the israeli government, problems started and everything went kaput! the economy and all went down the drain and check points installed because of terror and violence. arafat brought the palestinians down! all the money in the world given by arab regimes to pals is to control them, to debase them and to have them do the arabs' bidding, which is mainly to continue terrorism against israel. hameed aboughaze

israel never had a fraction of this arab money. yet, look at it today! intellectual, educated, top high tech producer in the world, nobel prizes, world class hospitals, universities and medical, technological, pharmaceutical and scientific research. israel, a country without any resources, no oil, no nothing! except brain power, intelligence and the dream of building a top rate economy and industry from a desert to a global scientific and high tech power. HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT, NOUR????? it can be done! without natural resources and without oil money. it can be done. and do not ever dare insinuate that the israelis built all this marvel in the desert on the palestinian backs. don't you dare! when israel built their beautiful strong country, there was no "occupation". yet, pals in all arab countries still lived in squalor, uneducated, alone, no support (except arabs pumping them with money for terrorism), killed by most regimes or expelled by most. you have let yourselves hate more than build, terrorise more than build, radicalize more than build. and what did you get???? nothing! nada! hameed aboughaze

and prior to the so called "occupation" of the west bank and gaza.....were these areas improved? were these areas prosperous, built, educated, free? no! finish with blaming all this poverty and all this backwardness on occupation.
17. Education reform, Nour?
David ,   New England   (06.25.09)
Does that include teaching that Jews and Christians are descended from apes and pigs?
18. An English convert to islam
David ,   New England   (06.25.09)
An English moslem went to Saudi Arabia and saw black women gathering cardboard which he assumed was for recycling. It was to live in. "last night one gave birth in one" of the cardboard shacks, an acquaintance told him.
19. Let's Hope
David ,   New England   (06.25.09)
I hope some Jewish or Christian religious extremists don't hijack some airliners and fly them into it murdering thousands of innocent people.
20. Good! Let them waste their money on this
David G   (06.25.09)
It is not like Jeddah has no space and needs to build massive skyscrapers in order cover the massive real estate costs. This is mostly for show and a large waste of money Let them spend 27 Billion of their oil money on this project. First a lot of the money will go back into western construction companies and second it means less money for them to spend of Salafi indoctrination literature.
21. 911 Hijackers were Saudi
M. Duvduvani   (06.26.09)
Does anyone else find it interesting that 18 of the 19 hijackers on 911 that brought down the Twin Towers in New York were Saudi...... and now the worlds tallest buildings are in Dubai and in a few years will be in Saudi Arabia? This shows me an overall attitude of conquest....destruction, and building for the glory of Islam.
22. New world records to follow...

23. typical responses
real observer ,   asia   (06.26.09)
is this building a threat to israe?, arent you israelis always saying that arabs should build instead of focusing on israel? so why the hatred for this project? you jews laughed when dubai launched all the projects and look at dubai today, it attracts more money and tourists than israel will ever hope to attract sure dubai has suffered from the global economic recession but so did america and europe, more so because of america's foreign debt but i must thank you people for your comments, it is a window into your minds and jewish attitudes globally by the way ancient egypt and her pharoes are gone but the pyramids stand, it even outlasted the jewish temples, and king solomons temple was destroyed by the ancient egyptians.
24. #23 Jewish heritage to the world is not tower or pyramids
(06.26.09)
but Science, litterature, Physics, Religion, Biology etc. You build towers, good for you, well we prefer to think. We are blaming you for building because for a jewish spirit it could have been used to reduce poverty, make scientific achievement, progress for all humankind (something that you cant see!) . But well you prefer to blame the jews for blaming our way of seeing the world! GREAT: Entiendes???
25. #23 thanks for your comment
(06.26.09)
We can now see how muslims think globally!! And this is REALLY REALLLY SAD that you all behave like you did We blame for you for not adavancing science and humankind. That's what you cannot understand!
26. This tower will fall along with all the other great towers
Rivkah   (06.26.09)
of the earth when the great earthquake hits. God does not like towers to the heavens and He will bring them down, like He stopped the Tower of Babel long ago.
27. what are you talking about?
real observer ,   asia   (06.26.09)
muslims actually contributed a lot to science, algebra was created by muslims, muslims also laid the foundation for modern medicine, google "ibn sina's canon of medicine" muslims advanced architecture through such projects such as "the taj mahal", one of the seven wonders of the world even in a backward country like pakistan they conducted research on breast cancer and identified an important breast cancer gene saudi arabia is building the worlds largest university for women with the worlds 6th most powerful supercomputer also saudi arabia is building 6 more industrial cities you jews are saying 27 billion dollars for a huge project is a waste, well how about bernard madoff and his 50 billion fraud(investigators are now saying it could be even larger) please tell me jews, which is worse, bernard madoff making 50 billion go poof or a 27 billion dollar contruction project by the way spending 500 billion dollars to kill iraqis based on a lie is a waste too and one last thing, muslims wrote the worlds first science fiction novel, which is translated as "theologus autodidactus" look it up
28. wow...so much anger
James ,   Ann Arbor, USA   (06.26.09)
What is with all these angry posts? I mean seriously. This is certainly an ambitious project and newsworthy. is it a waste of money? Quite possibly, but you have to realize that this is not the Saudi government burning through its oil profits. This is a project of Prince Waleed. A relatively low level prince who made his money through business development, not a massive inheritance. The Saudi government is actually taking huge steps right now to invest in some wonderful projects, Including the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology where I plan to attend for graduate school. How this turned into a debate between Muslims and Jews I do not understand. Muslims and Jews have BOTH made MASSIVE contributions throughout history, so this argument seems ridiculous to me.
29. #28 like what?
ben Ish   (06.26.09)
Explain to us apparantly uniformed, exactly -what- "MASSIVE" contributions have Muslims made to modern society?
30. #29 Gee, for starters, Israeli companies are begging...
Nour ,   Palestine   (06.28.09)
Palestinian companies to help them build eco-friendly buildings inside Israel proper? Ever heard of MENAGEOTHERMAL? A company behind the ME's first 100% geothermally heated/cooled building in the ME and based in Ramallah? Palestinians have BIG brains and are capabable of innovating even under the ugly occupation!
