DM ,   Amsterdam   (06.26.09)
2. 'If the protest turns violent we will show zero violence,'
Ali Z. ,   Washington DC   (06.26.09)
huh!
3. Hm, interesting..
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (06.26.09)
B"H The short talkback: I don’t like mounted police in riot gear against religious Jews. Looks like a pogrom. The long talkback: isn't it interesting that the J.em police suddenly has manpower to do this to the religious? When it was to enforce the court order to escort out the Arab squatters from Mr. Herskovitz's property, after 16 years of legal proceedings, they said they can't do it because they don't have the manpower. Funny country this, of law and order. Ah yeah, and of democracy.
4. Haredi Protest
Spencer ,   Israel   (06.26.09)
1. Hopefully the police will stick to their "zero tolerance" decision. 2. These Haredi should know that their demonstration will be desecrating the Shabbat that they seek to "protect". 3. Keeping a parking lot (which will be run by non-Jews), open on Shabbat is NOT a desecration of SHABBAT! 4.Non Jews also live in OUR Country and if they can be catered for without infringing upon the rules of Shabbat then that's great. 5. What these stupid haredim are doing is driving Jews away from Judaism!
5. MAYBE THE TANKS WILL BE THERE ?
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (06.26.09)
6. The first thought was..
Joo ,   Eurabia   (06.26.09)
send them to protest in Iran, but then I thought they probably will support antitizonist ahmedinejad and ayatollahs there...
7. Zero tolerance for violent protests, like Ni'ilin and Bilin
Adam Eliyahu Berkowi   (06.26.09)
I am perplexed. Every week there are violent protests in Ni'ilin and Bilin and there are never any arrests reported, despite regular casualties from both protesters and police. Is there a special branch of the Shin Bet to investigate the left wing subversive element , as there is aspecial branch to investigate the extreme right? If they are so into peace, why are they so violent?
8. desecrating Shabbat- shame
Marc-Andre   (06.26.09)
the 'holy' people protesting - again- on Shabbat- what is worse? Having a parking lot open on Shabbat- or protesting? Is there a difference? How absolutely disgusting and vile.
9. Baseless Hatred
Sam   (06.26.09)
You know, we Jews are very intelligent, but we can be incredibly stupid in times of stress. Stupidity Factor #1: At this point in time the last thing we should be doing is fighting amongst ourselves. As far as I'm concerned, a bunch of Haredim trying to create an environment for Shabbat is not much of a problem. We should be so lucky to have more people eager to project Jewish values and identity. Stupidity Factor #2: As far as democracy, Israel is a democracy, but it is one where the whole world participates, especially non-Israelis. We have surrendered the state to world opinion just due to fear and pressure. We forgot what a "great" job world opinion did of protecting us during the Holocaust. The Jewish Tradition states that the Second Temple was destroyed by "Sin'at Hinam", or "baseless hatred" between Jews. When you see things like this you begin to understand what could have happened back then.
10. propaganda
eliezer ,   jerusalem   (06.26.09)
having seen the methods that the Israeli police use, it is they who are the provocatuers, my son was beaten and jailed when he was in proimity of a demostration. I was frightened by the savageness of the nazi like methods used to stop FREE EXPRESSION, something that most societies equate with democracy. bull shit to the police, they are like NAZIs who brutalized innocent Jews and try to coerce them with force. The state is rotten within.
11.  stupid and exttemist reharedim !!!!
Ariel ,   Santiago, Chile   (06.26.09)
Extermist and stupid haredim are driving Jews away from Judaism!
12. Haredim are usefull to populate Nazareth Atlit
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (06.26.09)
and other places, securing Israel to remain Jewish, but when they fight for the Jewishness of Israel in Yerushalaim they are not welcome. How come such a non sense,uh? Secular mentality is destroying Israel and hopefully we are lucky enough this time to not go back to diapora. That's reality. Many of us are too stupid to understand the danger of praying the golden calf of secularism. Stiffed necks people, that's what we are!!!Pity, great ,great pity!
13. And I say more
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (06.26.09)
Seculars have the same predator mentality that goyim antisemits had (have?)towards Jews in diapora-in other words, when Jews sthrive and make the places prosperous and beautiful, antisemit robbers want to put their hands in what is ours. Yerushalaim is nowadays a very beautifull and prosperous place and secular mentality people want to "rob"this place to their own materialist and economic interest kicking to hell those who built the city. That's reality and I want to see if Ynet is courageous enough to publish what I am saying, since they are part of this "stablishment".
14. I THOUGHT THE ZERO TOLERANCE
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (06.26.09)
Would apply everywhere except in Iran where your site chose to back the rioters!!!Why then do you have to report 'zero-tolerance theory' to us.We know it already, don't we?
15. 7pm is NOT SHABBAT
Shalom   (06.26.09)
Shabbat officially comes in at 7:52 so stop the "desecrating Shabbat" talkbacks. Much as I am against demonstrations - this is a Prayer Rally, and I hope that it stays that way; people can then make their way to Shul for Shabbat prayers.
16. Nazi ?
Sergio ,   Tel Aviv   (06.26.09)
People are you sane ? What are you talking about ? Religion can't rule everything even in Jerusalem. I am not leftist for sure but what they do is just disgusting. They force us to live under their rules it is unacceptable . Adn what are they trying to protest ? Parking lot operated by non jews . Isn't it somehing that judaism allows ? I mean how long can we live under their dictate ? Stop this insane protest against nothing but killing our freedom !
17. The Police initiate violence.
Michael   (06.26.09)
They often start with the water cannons, and then when protestors fight back a little, then they take out batons and start brutalizing them. btw, this only applies to the police. (Not Tzahal, which is many many times better in all ways.)
18. Response to Ariel #11
Sam   (06.26.09)
You should read Kenneth Levine's book "The Oslo Syndrome". It talks about how Jews think that selling out and blaming other Jews will save them from persecution by the Goyim. What you are doing is not new, and it has never worked. It only divides us further and opens us up to foreign conquest and control.
19. Haredi Violence
David Powel ,   Everett, Wa. DPRSSA   (06.26.09)
Do I detect an ultra Orthodox religious community wanting to turn the Old City into another Tehran. Do they really want a Theocracy run by their mullahs? Just wondering.
20. Transfer Mea Shearim to PA
Rich ,   Fort Lauderdale USA   (06.26.09)
Israel should include Mea Shearim to the PA since they are happier under Arab rule than Jewish rule, reject the authority of the State of Israel and react like animals to anything they don't agree with.
21. Funny situation
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (06.26.09)
Beneath the talkbacks re this abysmal situation are ads to purchase T-shirts bearing the imprint "United We Stand". After reading the talkbacks, I see no unity.
22. Fascinating
Menachem ,   U.k   (06.26.09)
Out of all religions in the world, it is the Jewish nation that is so embarased of what it has to offer. And the few people who show some pride get spat upon. Shabbat Shalom
23. #15 Keren and #9 Sam
Lisa   (06.26.09)
Keren: ok, 7:52 to be exact- cutting it a bit close? They have 52 minutes to get their point across and then go and pray- if this gets out of hand- like the last parking lot protest- some people will spend their Shabbat in a jail, they can pray there....the time and date was chosen deliberately by the organizers to provoke another riot. #9 Sam, Stupidity factor #2: the whole world- including non-Jews-? really? The protesters are a minority in Israel- but the entire country is being pressured ... I think you got this wrong: the world does not care if you have Shabbat all week long, or not at all..... YOU,the people of Israel have to decide.... the majority decides -not a few hotheads who pretend to be pious. This is the problem- always blaming it on the other guy... If Israel is a democracy- then exercise your rights.
24. Im hiloni & I say respect the sanctity of Yerushalayim.
Russel ,   tel Aviv   (06.26.09)
Keep Tel Aviv gay & open 24 x 7 but allow the dati'im; the Jews and keepers of our faith, the respect they are due - Shabbat Shalom
25. Shalom , my calendar gives 7.08 fot Yeroushalaim
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.26.09)
Not 7.52 .
26. 12 & 13 , don't say anything , you HYPOCRITE
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.26.09)
and ignorant LIAR
27. Shalom , two of the leading Israeli papers
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.26.09)
also give 7.08 . And on TV , i have seen a "flyer" on a Jerusalem wall telling : 7.11
28. Sam , 18 . Who divides ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.26.09)
Who's intolerant ? Who is violent against other Jews ? Who calls police : nazis ? Not the seculars , it are only those extremist fanatic "religious" who do all this . With their "behaviour" they can't call themselve Believing people . TRUE believers don't act this way .
29. #23 Lisa and #28 Charles
Sam   (06.26.09)
Lisa: This was not my point. With my 'democracy' comment I meant to say that Israeli Government Policy especially with regards to the "Occupied" territories is decided more by external forces than by the will of the Israeli people. You can "vote", but you get the same policy no matter who you vote for. How many Israeli leaders have been elected on one platform and end up implementing the platform of the person they ran against? Arik Sharon comes to mind...so does Menachem Begin, and also Netanyahu. Charles: The answer is: we all do...we all divide. I have seen many secular Jews heap more filth and venom and hatred upon their haredi BRETHREN than upon the cursed Muslim/Arab MORTAL ENEMIES of the state who want to kill us all. As to who's intolerant and violent, that's easy....although the haredim can be intolerant, the Muslim World easily takes the prize on this one. I can't remember the last time that a haredi Jew destroyed skyscrapers, killing thousands of people or hijacked and blew up airplanes. My point is that it is stupid and foolish to waste energy fighting amongst ourselves when we have not one, but several mortal, existential threats to our state. Why not treat the haredim as a sub-culture, like many other countries do with different ethnic groups? Certainly there are differences, even violent ones, but NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR THIS NONSENSE. We need, first and foremost, loyalty and unity amongst ourselves if we are to face any external threats.
