1. Mr. Lapid writes as if Iran is a done deal
usa   (06.27.09)
Israel will become complacent about Iran at her peril. I therefore will refrain from quoting the lofty language of our Declaration of Independence in favor of the more immediate and pithy morality of the late Yogi Berra: "It ain't over till it's over."
2. Ah, such is the golden beauty of retrospection, Lapid
Cameron ,   USA   (06.27.09)
Regardless of the games being played on Persian streets, you'll still have the nuke business to tackle. You still have to make a fundamental choice between what you term, "the screamers", or the "spooked, but passive" set. Get pro-active, or get apathetic. Decision time.
3. part analysis
Maximus ,   Rome   (06.27.09)
This uprizing in Iran is comparrable to the uprizing of teh czechs against the soviet disctaorship in 67 known a s teh prague spring. But it is not yet the downfall of teh Berlin wall like in 1989. To acheive the demis eof th eugly mullah's regime, ther eis a nee dof a comprehensive war that ha sto be waged against the militray apparatus of that regiome; Now the population will not unite with them if they a re hit, because, they understan dbetter the need that to change the regime, one should make blleeed to death the pasadarans and the basijis.. once they are broken, the regime will fall like a rotten fruit..
4. What makes you so sure, Yair...
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (06.27.09)
That even if the current fanatic regime in Iran is overthrown, the one replacing it would not be just as threatening to Israel? I don't see Mousavi stopping Iran's nuclear plans. I don't see him stopping the aid to Hizbullah, and stopping his country's constant boiling in the Middle East cauldron. And I certainly don't see him as accepting Israel's right to exist. Actually he would be much worse! His polite, 'moderate' demeanor would be used to fool the whole world. While with Ahmadinejad, the entire world sees what a madman he is and therefore it is easier to rally international powers against Iran. I couldn't care less about freedom, human rights, and democracy for Iranian citizens, if their country would continue to be a major existential threat to my country. If the threat is not removed by the Iranians themselves, then we would be forced to remove it ourselves.
5. Good we didn't bomb Iran...for now but
DT ,   TA Israel   (06.27.09)
not doing anything will ensure tha Iran gets to achieve all it's nuclear ambitions. You ca on rely on the U.S achieving nothing through "negotiation"
6. While I won't dispute the writers claim that
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (06.27.09)
in the time of stress people tend to rally around their collective leadership, who's to say that a shattering and humiliating blow wouldn't have emboldened the disenfranchised as much. Here again a foundation can be weakened many ways. I'll agree that not bombing Iran earlier has offered the world a mixed bag of returns and has probably been the best tack to take, but I think that just hoping Iran will crumple and fall from within is naive and sooner or later those "hysterical screamers " will have to be listened to. Because I believe that who ever is in office in Iran you'll not really see much change in Iran's official stance against the west the world and Israel.
7. u can feel the same about gaza war
Jalal ,   Gaza   (06.27.09)
8. the wall will fall
Rami ,   Israel/Palestine   (06.27.09)
the Israeli will fall just like Berlin wall did.
9. Pathetically ridiculous!
Prof. Ben-Tal ,   Israel   (06.27.09)
In addition to being a second-rate journalist, I am curious to know what makes Mr. Lapid an expert on Iran, the Middle East, military/political strategy or anything for that matter. Even his father had more professional integrity. Sorry lad, but you really must find another occupation.
10. 4, Mousavi created Hezbollah!
freejay333 ,   Israel   (06.27.09)
11. Mousaviis under the ayatollahs control too!
freejay333 ,   Israel   (06.27.09)
Dont be fooled....he is even more hardlined than the current regime!
12. Absolute rubbish. Mousavi is NOT 'blue sky' for Israel
Scott   (06.28.09)
Like many of the others posting comments here - I also believe Mr Lapid's analysis is wrong. The "revolution' occuring in Iran - even if successful , will not replace the incumbent regime with one more palatable to Israel. NOT AT ALL. This is really like Fatah fighting with Hamas over control. They both have a common enemy - Israel. This 'analysis' is just a silly swipe at those who obviously have a much greater grasp on the situation than Mr Lapid will ever have. Thank the Almighty that Mr Lapid is not running the show.
13. Yeah except the Ayatollahs have crushed them
Danny   (06.28.09)
So now we know exactly what we would have missed - nothing.
14. Big Deal
ALAN ,   Texas   (06.27.09)
So there is rioting. Big Deal. The Mullahs still have nukes and will use them. They will kill all the protesters, then claim it was a Zionist plot and all these people are martyrs. So Israel will still have to destroy the nukes, but in a more advanced stage, so it will cost more lives.
15. Pardom me, Mr Lapid
Gene ,   Raleigh, USA   (06.27.09)
Who actually believed Israel was going to bomb Iran? Reading a bit too much of your own press?
16. Makes you think!
Vladimir ,   LA, California   (06.27.09)
May be Ahmadinejad's reckless statements about annihilation of Israel and his refusal to cooperate with UNAEC were attempts to provoke West into military action. Which in turn would unite the nation and secure his place as a leader. Politics are always local!
17. G'd bless the Persians! Down with the Ayatollah!
Doron ,   Israel   (06.27.09)
18. Rami #8, the Jewish people saw a dozen empires come and go
Doron ,   Israel   (06.27.09)
It's more likely the Islamic Empire will fall before Israel! History has been on our side and even though we have suffered, our enemies have eventually always fallen in the end! We are the chosen people by the G'd of Israel and when we live by his Torah, we cannot be destroyed. What makes you think you are better than all previous empires?
19. unriped grapes..........end
........ ,   ......   (06.28.09)
20. bad the Mossad didn't predict the uprising
observer   (06.28.09)
look at the much full part of the glass.
21. wars and revolutions
Marilyn ,   USA   (06.28.09)
In our revolution, they tried to get us to pay for a war. Things perhaps haven't changed all that much. I'm not happy in paying for all these wars today. Anyways in regards to the right to revolution in the declaration of independence, it's still a controversial concept. It may also be harder to make it work with religious concepts. In making the people the actual government it changes things though. I'm not sure though how it would work in a theocracy though.
22. What a Load of Cods-wallop! (Rubbish for the non AngloSaxon)
Alastair ,   Perth / Jerusalem   (06.28.09)
What wisdom and foresight this wizard of a Journo apparently is! "The Screamers". By that I think you mean those who are far wiser and will act rather than sit back and watch! This journalist would have made a good friend for Neville Chamberlain! Whomever here suggested you find another career - I recommend it also! Probably more suited to an afternoon TV Game Show host (especially with a hairstyle like that!) G-d Bless Bibi and Lieberman! Men of Vision, wisdom and experience. And G-d Bless Israel, always.
23. #3
Iranian Jew ,   China   (06.28.09)
Iranian's are more patriotic than you think. US funded the Iraq/Iran war which was a blessing to the mullahs. The war wiped out an entire young generation of thinkers and also helped mullahs looked like heroes in the eyes of the people. And they lost their faith in USA. War will unit the regime and the reformists. We do care about our own no matter how different we think. I have also lived in Israel and I know how things are there. Get behind the people and help them choose the correct path. Mullahs love to get a new enemy so they can stir distract them from the problems.
24. would have, could have, should have biiiiiiiig
ghostq   (06.28.09)

25. to #8 I dout that cause jewish and palis r
ghostq   (06.28.09)
not the same nation, and the walls of jerusalem have never fallen. if there will be state of palestine all the Israely arab will joine their relatives there, Israel for jews palis for arabs.
26. #20, actually if you look at the news
Danny   (06.28.09)
The Mossad nailed it. Said it wasn't a game changer and that the regime would supress it. For all the faux excitement in the western press, that is EXACTLY what happened.
27. Muslims torching things & throwing rocks isn't a revolution
pub ,   USA   (06.28.09)
This was a power play between Islamic clerics. Sheesh, the West is so gullible. Just like in Bosnia, they wanted our help for their goal.
28. Good we didn't bomb Iran
tom klein ,   manly, australia   (06.28.09)
I am sure that the writer is right with a small exception. Unfortunately Israel is runing out of time and will have no choice but to bomb Iran.
29. #20 Palestinians didn't predict the uprising
Cynthia ,   USA   (06.28.09)
They've gone ten steps backward and created a prison for themselves. Walls, checkpoints, border crossings, unemployment and no state in sight. Still taking bad advice from bad leaders.
30. #27 I disagree
Cynthia ,   USA   (06.28.09)
It's just the beginning of a revolution and no doubt the people will take it to another level with or without Mousavi. We're watching the desperate Regime trying to beat down what they know they cannot control. Ahmadinejad is the illegitimate leader of the pariah regime of Iran and must be treated as such.
