1. If only they were arab moslems
Marcel ,   Florida   (06.27.09)
The,local Jerusalem government ,the State, Border police and the secular Jews would have surrended to their religiious demands immediately and there would have been no riot. Talula would have invited them to Tel Aviv for refreshments afterwards.
2. Not only Iran but Israel is also having civil unrest
lydia ,   Brisbane   (06.28.09)
3. A way to stop this:
M ,   tlv   (06.28.09)
Their is price tag here: extra hours for police and damages. Since people who are starting this riots are motivated by politics/control and eventually money - the state should put the expences on them and orginizations affiliated with them. Simply stop state fundings of the yeshivas and sinagogues whos leaders are calling for the riots. Make them to pay for the damage they doing. It will be only fair given the attitude this groups of haredim have. As for #1 - you want Mea Shearim to be treated like Gaza (as in sending in tanks and F-16)?
4. A Separate Land
leo ,   nyc   (06.28.09)
Regardless of what the rioters think, they are not religious but rather use religion for power, plain and simple. No religious person would throw things at police over the opening of a parking lot----indeed these people have more in common with the Taliban than anyone else--it is they who are disgracing Judaism...
5. Violence on Shabbat
Noa ,   Israel   (06.28.09)
So the 'sanctity of Shabbat' is being 'defended' by injuring people by throwing stones, cans and glass bottles. Over a parking lot. I just don't get it. Things like this push me farther and farther away from any inclination I have of becoming more observant.
6. To #1`Spot on Marcel Yasher Koach
Mark ,   Israel   (06.27.09)
7. Real Jews
Shaul ,   Sydney   (06.28.09)
It is moments like this when I am grateful that the Reform and Conservative movements are becoming more and more popular in Israel and abroad.
8. This was needless
Yakov   (06.28.09)
That parking lot could have been used by those who want to park their cars over Shabbat. Leave it into the lot until sundown, where then the cars can be removed. That parking lot could have been the very solution to the problem.
9. Shavua Tov
yeedle ,   Jerusalem   (06.28.09)
You negelected to mention the peaceful tefillah rally which took place last night on Shabbat Kodesh on Rechov Bar Ilan. That rally was a beautiful kiddush Hashem of 50,000 who care about the sanctity of Shabbat and the holy city of Jerualem. Why focus only on the few when you can focus on the many?!?
10. Israel in general and J.em in particular
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (06.28.09)
B"H Israel in general and Jerusalem in particular can not be run against the Jews. Jewish Jews I mean. It is intolerable to routinely call Jews in Judea: "settlers". It is intolerable to routinely call Shechem "Nablus". It is the same anti-Jewish nonsense as calling Jerusalem "Alea Capitolina" would be! Why? Because it was the same Roman emperor, Hadrian, who renamed Shechem "Nablus" and Jerusalem "Alea Capitolina" in sign of the dejudaization of the region. Stop the use of the forces of the so-called "Jewish" state against the Jews! These forces meant to protect the Jews and Jewish values and not to be used against them. Shabbat is a Jewish value and parking on Shabbat is a public dessacration of G-d's name. It must not be allowed to go through. Not in the Land of Israel.
11. bad leadership
Lisa   (06.28.09)
they went there to pray- they lied shame disgrace disgust
12. "Saturday riots" - following Torah to h_ll?
5th generation ,   Israel   (06.28.09)
Since BUILDING on Shabbat is forbidden, apparently DESTRUCTION on Shabbat makes one godly?
13. Time to deport them to Tehran
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.28.09)
This situation was so predictable, we have seen this coming for years. The goverment gives in to these parasites every time. They seem to think they are above the law. Its time to get tough with them once and for all.
14. Just draft the rioters !
Sefardi ,   Canada   (06.28.09)
15. "Punishing" hareidim for daring to protest
Zvika ,   Jerusalem   (06.28.09)
Those who call for expulsion, stripping citizenship, denying civil rights, halting financial support to hareidim or their institutions, etc. as punishment for their temerity to protest against Shabbat desecration are doing it again: they are advocating breaking down the rule of law. Just like when the Knesset passes a law that some group or constituency is displeased with: just disregard it, it's only a 'religious' law, or a 'right-wing' law, or a law that helps immigrants, etc. It's not "really" a law, just like the hareidim are not "really" people. Haredim who broke the law, and can be legally charged with an offense -- well by all means have the police charge them. But advocating indiscriminate group punishment for any and every hareidi (presumably because they are hard to identify -- "all the hareidim look the same . . . ") is reminiscent of vicious regimes of bygone eras. You can't have it both ways -- bemoaning the lack of respect for democracy and the rule of law, and then turning around and contributing to that same disrespect by advocating undemocratic police-state behavior that undermines the rule of law.
16. #10 Jerusalem is the capital of all jews
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.28.09)
Sorry but you are tottaly wrong. Jerusalme is the capital of all of Isreal and not some kind of unlawful ghetto of the ultra orthadox. These jewsih values you talk of , i presume that includes, forcing a fanatical life style on others, attacking women on buses, breaking in to womens appartments and attacking them, telling non belivers what to eat, who they can mary, when to drive our cars, when we go shopping, setting fire to the streets of Jerusalem on Shabbat, attacking our security forces, the list goes on, Thanks but you and your kind can keep your 'values to your self"
17. #11 Just curious;you know,a clinic curiosity
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (06.28.09)
Why a christian goy from Swistzerland is so interested in Jewish problems? I like to analize in depth antisemitic pathologies, either when they come from those that say they are jews,as the amalek(or erev rav-not sure yet) from petah tikva or dalila (ops it is talila from t aviv) ,or sagi -the disguised ishmael,or that sinner from Rannana who runs from Religious as -as you goiym would say-devil from the crux. Answer to us what exactly excites you so much in order to stick in a Jewish site other than the love the 4"jews"I cited above have for you and you?uh?uh?
18. Someone, please enlighten me......
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.28.09)
I am trying to find how to riot in the Torah on Shabbat and about lighting fires. I can't seem to find what they are doing commanded by HaShem? Guess that means the Haredim are a false "religion."
19. #17 Karen - That sinner?
Avi ,   Rannana   (06.28.09)
OOOps there you go again judging and slandering others who just dont come up to your religious lifestyle. I belive to be a sinner you have to belive and accept the religious rules which you live by and judge and slander others by. Thanks but i think that Goldy lcocks and the three bears is more creiditable than this religious mumbo jumbo you talk of. Well cant stop the day is young more sins to commit and boy it feels good.
20. Civilized society
Jake ,   New York, NY   (06.28.09)
How come the Palestinians can't make peace with such civilized people?? weird!
21. weird, similar behavior between palis and orthodox
ghostq   (06.28.09)
yuk by involving children, in violent riots. quot "A six-year-old boy and five police officers were also wounded in violent riots". I hope they r going to put thos free loaders for a long time in jail. kinda make you wonder if that the purpose of them bringing alot of children to the world.
22. kosher Shabbat war
observer   (06.28.09)
as long as it is against secular security forces; those are worse than gentiles.
23. #20 "civilized" Palestinian society dealing with Israelis...
Yehudah ,   Haifa, israel   (06.28.09)
How can "civilized" Palestinian society, who throw their own people from the 15 floor, deal with those "barbarian" Israelis, who don't have even one casualty in their protests....
24. 17 Your ignorance knows no boundaries, do it
Talula ,   Israel   (06.28.09)
You don't even live here (thank god) - you are mentally sick and you need urgent mental help - what's the matter can't you get it in Brazil?
25. 17 , the Ignorant HYPOCRITE keren wants to analyse
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.28.09)
Let's have a laugh . She does not even know the difference between her Hypocrisy and my love for Shomre Shabbat family and friends
26. 15 You are another sick one
Talula ,   Israel   (06.28.09)
Daring to protest? Setting bins on fire, hurting police officers behaving like a bunch of disgusting degenerates? They are too thick and stupid to talk. Very strange the seculars were also demonstrating, but without the violence. You are a small minded pathetic loser of a nobody.
27. Re: 16
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (06.28.09)
B"H Sorry Avi, I don't agree. Why? Because you guys seem to forget (or don't want to recognize for ideological reasons and for reasons of power built on it) that the secular Democratic Republic of Israel sits right on the biblical Holy Land of Israel, given to the Jews by a famous and mighty King: G-d. This is why, you understand, all this secular mingling with Jews and with Halacha, with Jewish Law, and with Jewish values and with Jewish Land and especially with the most Jewish things of all: Jerusalem, simply doesn't go down any more. Not after the Altalena affair, or more recently, not after Gush Katif and Amona. What you call "our society" has in my view already fallen apart, beaten apart by the yassam and other similar units of skinheads. That's why I think we'll have violence here, and a lot of it. It would make good sense to give Judea and Samaria to the Jews living there now, who have actually more biblical, historic, religious, moral, political and G-d knows what else right to the Land than the Jews have on Tel Aviv and on the costal region. Calling a Jew in Judea a "settler" is defeatist nonsense to say the least. Calling Judea and the Shomron “West Bank” is outright anti-Jewish terminology.
28. Police must adopt a ZERO TOLERANCE policy NOW!
Talula ,   Israel   (06.28.09)
The police need to adopt a ZERO TOLERANCE policy with these animals - if not, it will become a part of every Shabbat until the parking lots are closed. But they cannot dictate what should be closed and what should be open. It’s not for them to say. The Police need to use taser guns and rubber bullets on the degenerate savages. They need to use a heavy hand and not fairy around them like a bunch of ballerinas. Nip it in the bud before it's too late, brut force is needed here. Jerusalem belongs to every Jew, especially the ones that work to keep the country, and serve in the army to protect it. What gives the stinky Haredi the right to dictate to anyone about anything, regarding this country? Maybe if they contributed something, but they don’t. They live their lives to tell us how to live ours. What’s wrong with them? Can’t they see everyone laughs at them and pays no attention………………… Which is why they have to set Jerusalem on fire on Shabbat, These people are simply too vile for words - no wonder I hate them all. They should not even be called humans. How can they riot and smash up a city a holy city, just because a parking lot is open on Shabbat, a parking lot that isn't even near their neighbourhood. What next they'll riot in Tel Aviv as well. I hate them even more today than I did last week, I never thought that possible.
29. when thieves war, theft unveiled
observer   (06.28.09)
the stolen parking lot is in East Jerusalem, isn't it!
30. Our pride and joy, the jewish Ayatollahs
Oscar   (06.28.09)
Rabbe Yitzhak Goldknopf " we got most of the mission, to protest the trampling of the Sabbath sanctity. As usual, no responsibility for the riot are assumed, but community leaders will "decide" whether to continue the FEROCIOUS protest next Saturday, which by coincidence happens to be God's day of prayer, peace, rest, family time and more mundane leisure behavior. Stones, cans, bottles, trash cans, mixed with a few drops of blood, THEIR weapons of choice to render homage to THEIR Almighty. The Jewish Ayatollahs, the Islamic Ayatollahs, ALL brothers-in-arms in order to achieve THEIR goals ; to coerce by force, submission to THEIR Scriptures, the Torah, the Koran, THEIR law manuscripts. The only few items missing (so far): the guns, the killings, the stoning, the suicide, and a few more coercions of choice, for compliance and supremacy. With Jews like that, who needs a Taliban, Al-qaeda, Hezbullah, Hamas, Ahmadino and other God's rejects --- Even Lucifer wants nothing to do with them.
