1. motivating factor of the accused is "money and women" only
Unsure ,   Tel Aviv   (07.01.09)
Are they referring to Katsav or Olmert?
2. normal visitors
Miriam   (07.01.09)
I hope the hotels make it plain and clear to visitors when they make reservations, that this is a restricted hotel not suitable for normal people- especially tourists. I would not stay at a place like this, even you paid me-
3. Boycott back

4. If there's a market for it, 'tis the thing of hospitality
Ypip ,   Canada   (07.02.09)
5. Can I have a list of these hotels?
Avi-former Sruggie ,   Israel   (07.02.09)
In order to be sure I will not - even in emergency or erroneously - set my foot in them.
6. This is about business . . .
Shalom   (07.02.09)
In nowadays the vast majority of secular families spend their summer vacation either overseas or in Eilat; where as the hareidi families travel within Israel. For years many hotels, realising the business potential, have made efforts to attract hareidi visitors. Now, with so many hotels fighting for the limited bookings, the hareidim are free to choose which hotels are the keenest to to actually make themselves attractive to their market.
7. I hope American Colony not one of them...
mark ,   ca   (07.02.09)
8. #7 - American Colony is not kosher, don't worry!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (07.02.09)
It is probably the finest hotel in Jerusalem, though! They have no reason to give in to Jewish fundamentalist blackmail, as so far they are not giving into to Moslem fundamentalist blackmail.
9. Another reason not to vacation in Israel
Avi ,   Israel   (07.02.09)
Why dont they set up their own line of hotels maybe call it Teliban Inn. if these people want to live like that fine but they have no right to force it on others as was the famous case of the Tulip Hotel at the dead sea when secular visitors who had pre paid arrived to find the hotel taken over by the ultra orthdox , the windows were sealed over (as apparently these men cant control their sexul feelings at the site of a granmother in her bathing suit) The elevators were closed and the pool divided. At least the list of these hotels should be widley available so secular people can avoid these places.
10. The list (from hebrew site) of hotels for chareidi guests
ani ,   Israel   (07.02.09)
Nof Arad - all year round Nirvana Dead Sea - till 17th Tamuz Chafetz Chayim all year round Hofit-Shavei Tzion - 14th Av-23rd Av Flatarin (or Platrin) - Tiberias-all year round Galei Zans- Netanya all year round Ariston -Tiberias- 16th Av-23rd Av It seems that three of them have special dates allocated for chareidim. Check 'em out concerning the rest of the time , and chill out, ok? It ain't rocket science. They don't want you, you don't want them. What's the problem?
11. It's to attract foreign charidim
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.02.09)
As most of the Israeli ones are amongst the poorest citizens in the country . Those "Israeli" charidim" who can afford to travel , are , many of them at least , Ex US citizens who invaded some towns as Beth Shemesh or Elad .
12. 4 ypip , if there is a market for it , it's BUSINESS
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.02.09)
not hospitality , as you wrote .
13. Not Just For Ultra-Orthodox
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (07.02.09)
I have also complained to my wife about a number of these issues in hotels, and am pleased that I'm not alone. There's no reason we should be limited to vacations in Chofetz Chaim, Kibbutz Lavi, and so on; definitely not here in the Jewish state. The power of the purse can be a wonderful thing.
14. #6 majority of secular families
Lisa   (07.02.09)
just wondering: how about foreign tourists? I don't know which hotels are now catering to Haredi- but I would guess that leaves them now out of the foreign tourist circuit- unless they are haredi..
15. #13 Yishai Kohen and your holiday plans
Avi ,   Rannana   (07.02.09)
You could always go on a sof shavoeh to Karbul in Afghanistan or i hear down town Tehran is very popular im sure you will find it to your liking.
16. #11 Not quite
Nomi ,   PT   (07.02.09)
There are amazing deals suitable for the chareidi community, at unbelievably low group rates, advertised in charedi newspapers, some are holidays for women/ mothers of many children during the week, with a varied programme to please this community (only). Doesn't appeal to me, or bother me, and I wouldn't dream of going, even though we are a religious family. #13 We 'dafke' like Lavi for Shabbatot, Chagim.( can't afford it at the moment) Don't know what on earth offends you there. During the week, we find loads of great deals at hotels etc all over the country. As there are no kids at home any more. we try to go away, NOT during school holidays for a couple of days here and there. The religious community Golan country lodging places are b'seder too, during the week and for Shabbatot. Try to see the half full cup, not the half empty one, folks.
17. Dont understand business about 'net just for married folk
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (07.02.09)
Can someone please explain that to me?
18. #17 - very simple
M ,   tlv   (07.02.09)
Whoever made this rule realize that haredi men would look for porno (or even worse - spot news, or even g-d forbid leave talkbacks on ynet) if they get unsupervised access to internet. It's good rule.
19. Nomi , also in the "Great" hotels ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.02.09)
Or only in some special places as a Kibbutz or some lodging places ?
20. #15 Avi: You Forget That This Is The JEWISH State
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (07.02.09)
This is Israel, the Jewish state, and as you see, there is growing demand for things to be as they should for Jews. YOU can go eat your rabbits and pigs elsewhere if you like. In fact, the entire world is your treif oyster. The JEWISH state isn't.
21. #20 Yishai Kohen you forget that this is a democratic state
Avi ,   Rannana   (07.02.09)
Incase no one mentioned to you this is a democratic state and not a religious state based on Halacha. Which means people are free to choose. Thanks for the advise on my diet but i dont eat fish or meat , however those who want to are perfectly at will to do as they please. If you belive you are on a path to enlightment and this God of yours really cares what you put in your mouth thats your right but it is not your right to force it on others !
22. yishai 20 , a state FOR Jews , build mostly by seculars
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.02.09)
and certainly not by those anti Zionist ones .
23. #20 Yishai
Lisa   (07.02.09)
THE Jewish state for ALL Jews, yes- did you mean it? you are going to get an earful because not all Jews agree with your life style. Good Luck, LOL
24. Avi, Charles, and Lisa
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (07.02.09)
Avi, In case nobody has ever taught you, in a democratic country, hotels can also cater to the religious- and as our population skyrockets (there are already more religious 1st graders than secular), that is the future. Better get used to it. Charles, The Jewish state is NOT mostly built by seculars, and is not even mostly secular. It is only 20% secular (and dropping). Lisa, You'll just have to get used to my lifestyle. It's a Jewish thing.
25. Charles, I don't know what you're hinting at
Nomi ,   PT   (07.02.09)
but I've noticed that large hotels (but dafka not kibbutzim) offer attractive group rates to the chareidi community that are good value. They're all happy with it I presume, so I don't see a problem. I think I mentioned great deals, not great hotels, tho' maybe some are. Nothing sinister was meant in my comments. I just think that we can all find what suits our specific needs without delving into other peoples choices. All the pouncing on chareidim in these columns is quite ridiculous by now. I don't mind or care what they do or where they go. I just don't care to go there with them.
26. Yishai , i accept that people have other ideas
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.02.09)
but not that they distord the truth . It were 6000 mostly seculars , if not anti religious , who gave their blood for this country . It were certainly not the charidim who contributed something , some religious did . 20 % secular ? give your serious references please , not arutz sheva . Maybe if you count people as i am who went once to a Beth Knesseth for the Bar Mitzwah of my grand sons .
27. damn it, I was planning to go with a thong
ghostq   (07.02.09)
in the hallway.
28. Extra law needed. Cooks have to be orthodox Jews as well
JO   (07.02.09)
to get a Kashrut liscence this is the least requirement for a kosher kitchen. Not to do so is hyopcritical and not kosher. I always wonder where all these haredim get the money to pay for hotel holidays, many of us no haredi do not have the money for weeks of vacations in five star hotels, especially in Israel which is expensive.
29. #26 Yishai
Lisa   (07.02.09)
I am not sure where you get the numbers, but I did a quick search on google- even if this is not 100% correct- you are WAY off... according to the 2006 census, there are 20% Haredi 10% religious 22% religious- traditionalists 44% secular and between 17 and 35% atheist- and that is from the JEWISH population In Israel. Let's not forget the 16.1% Muslim, 2.1% Christians and Druze.... so no- your argument does not stand- what was your argument?
30. Hotels
Leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (07.02.09)
They are private, commercial establishments, and thus, provide supply where there's demand. Nothing wrong with that. If non-Orthodox Jews demand a different kind of hotel, then there will be one supplied for them. That's what the market is all about.
