1. There are 2 states, Israel and Jordan Palestine
David ,   Boston, USA   (07.01.09)
Just need to define the border in Judea and Samaria. Also, my understanding is the Arabs in Gaza and Judea and Samaria are more separated from Israel now than anytime in decades. Even electricity for Gaza will be coming from Egypt in the next few years. Give it time, and we can stop talking about creating another Arab Palestinian state and start talking about integrating these Arabs into other Arab states. It will happen sooner or later, mostly because the Arabs DONT want another Arab Palestinian state. They just dont want a Jewish state and thats not happening, especially with the demographic trend of Israel over the past 5 years is overwhelmingly Jewish and growing. So unless you dont like a more Jewish and more religiously Israel, dont worry. Protect Israel and be strong. Stop giving in, and start making stronger demands of the Arab neighbors. They need Israel more than Israel needs them.
2. dream on , igal!
oded   (07.01.09)
if this is not a left- wing, bleeding heart wet dream, i don't know of one... there's nothing worst then a self- hater among us... who fogets so quickly the sacrifices so many have made for the sake of israel.. you, sir are willing to give it up in a jiffy. dream on 'cause that's all it's gonna be.

Go join Amira Hess in Palestine. I hear they enjoy lynching Jews for no reason what so ever. Your kind of people!
8. One state + population reallignment
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (07.01.09)
The population reallignment, which began 60 years ago when half a million Jews were evicted from Muslim countries without compensation and driven to the fledgling Jewish state (in the hopes of wiping them out all in one place) will be completed and then one state will arise stronger than ever.
9. The Sun...

14. One State: Israel
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (07.01.09)
The Arabs will just have to go elsewhere to make a state, and the only way they can remain here in OUR state is if they give up violence totally and recognize the nation of Israel in the land of Israel.
15. Sign of change
Aleph ,   Australia   (07.01.09)
Thanks for the honest, refreshing and hopeful article. Perhaps in view of the virulent racism thus far in the comments, more articles supporting the one state vision could be encouraged in order to further solidify the promise of a more civilised land in which the prevailing ugly, selfish sentiment is held in contempt, rather than exhibited as a chronic, sickening norm.
16. agree with israpalestine
palestinian ,   Cleveland /ohio   (07.01.09)
this is the normal outcome for this conflict ..it is been one state in 1948 ..you wanted to change the name to israel by force .. will change it back to palestine by voting .. isra-palestine is ok.
17. Isra-Palestine?
Wade ,   NYC USA   (07.01.09)
First of all, Israeli Arabs already participate in gov't as MKs and even ministers. But, Israel doesn't run Ramalah or Jenin, so separate Palestinian gov't structures are also in place. Bibi didn't deceive Pres. Obama- he drew his line in the sand, with the backing of most Israelis. Sarna misleads by implying that the 2-state solution is thwarted by Jews when in truth it is rejected by the Palestinian street.
18. #14 and Some Honesty
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (07.01.09)
Actually, the worst thing that could happen to Israel would be for the West Bank Arabs to accept Israeli rule. A democracy cannot annex an area without eventually providing citizenship to people who live in the annexed land. Lets be honest. If you want to hold on to West Bank while maintaining a Jewish state, you had better be prepared to expel the West Bank Arabs. Any 'half-way' measure will result in an eventual bi-national state, perhaps 50 years from now.
19. More Leftist crap
Frank ,   Canada   (07.01.09)
Nobody can force a "solution" on Israel. Interestingly, because of its failure to bring peace, the Left is turning the "peace" process into a terror state creation process where the word peace is not even mentionned. Peace has a real meaning and the Left must deliver the goods or admit its failure.
20. To Mr. Sarna
NYC Girl   (07.01.09)
First of all, there's no such place as Florida Beach...it's Miami Beach. But, more importantly, where your argument falls apart is the fact that your hypothetical Cuban president can talk about his immigrant parents living side by side with Jews in Miami because those Jews aren't blowing themselves to kingdom come in order to slaughter innocent Cubans. In addition to that, you apparently don't know much about Cuban-Americans, who don't take kindly to terrorist regimes like those of Fatah and Hamas precisely because of their experiences living under Fidel Castro. Also, Cuban-American politicians from both the Democratic and Republican parties are some of Israel's best friends in Congress. In fact, you might want to take a look at the speech that Sen. Bob Melendez (D-NJ) recently gave before Congress. It's on You Tube. Check it out.
21. 51st state
jason   (07.01.09)
explain why we are listening to a president not from our own country - can we get one thing clear - we are not the 51 state of america! stop making us into one!
22. may be
nana ,   jerusalem   (07.01.09)
it goes like this but sure without gonzalis or netinyaho or son and daughter of the two men you mentioned sure these talkbackers would not be here to say only one state israil or two states jordan and israil . may be one state with others than these idiots
23. Well said Yigal ...
Avi ,   USA   (07.01.09)
The problem with many Israelis is that they believe they can have the cake and eat it, too. A one state solution with a built-in open air zoo for the Palestinians ... or a one state solution by shipping all Palestinians to Jordan ... or a one state solution where the Palestinians have no citizenship but live a tranquil and happy life - perhaps on a daily dose of extacy. There is a delusional element to all these approaches.
24. #14 - Jason, It's called the Israeli Initiative
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (07.01.09)
It consists of coordinating with Jordan to reinstate the Arabs in the West Bank with their Jordanian citizenship, annexing the land they live on and providing them financial incentives to move to Jordan. Until they move to Jordan, they will have the status of resident aliens. There are numerous reasons why Jordan should consider this option: 1) A Palestinian state represents a threat not just to Israel, but to Hashemite hegemony as well; 2) Jordan was created by the League of Nations as the national home for the Arabs living in the British Mandate and Jordan therefore has a legal obligation to provide Palestinians with political rights; 3) Israel is Jordan's strongest and probably only ally in the region- anything which weakens Israel will eventually weaken Jordan. Contrary to what people think, there is no either-or situation here. It's just a scare tactic pushed by people with an agenda.
25. This is one of the most idiotic
Marty ,   USA   (07.01.09)
articles I have read in a long time.
26. Two MAJOR mistakes:
Terry ,   Chicago, IL   (07.01.09)
1) It's Israelestine 2) Peres will be dead by then. It'll be presidents Barghuti and Livni. Other than that, I sure as heck pray to God that this happens.
27. The time is now
Michael ,   NYC, USA   (07.01.09)
Although the article is written in humor and exageration, it has a prophetic message. Get your head out of the sand. The day will come when a future US president, who does not care about the historic relationship between Israel and USA , will force a solution on Israel. A one state solution will bring about an end to the "im tirzu an zo aguda" dream of Herzl, and all the sacrifices to make it happen will be for nothing. Hurry, time does not wait.
28. Joe, #24
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (07.01.09)
The Israel Initiative has contains a major flaw: Its success depends on Jordan's cooperation on this issue. It could not be more obvious that this is not going to happen.
29. why not
galina ,   tel-aviv   (07.02.09)
Mr Sarna want to scare me, but I'am not. Israelstina is better than Hamastan and to share the land is better than uprooting settlements. Annexation - and citizenship for all - now,
30. ehm.. the article is GOOD
Daniel   (07.02.09)
Perhaps some of you didn´t understand it. It tries to be ironic. The mssage is: Palestinians should have their own state, even if they don´t want it, because if that doesn´t happen, demographics can make the one binational state solution. You will never get the palestinians out of Judea and Samaria by democratic ways, so if many of you insist in saying that ALL Samaria and ALL Judea is Israel, then give citizienship to all the inhabitants... that´s the DANGER. So the 2 states solution is still the best solution to Israel to preserve its JEWISH identity. I don´t understand how many of you here don´t see it. Even Liberman saw it. Imagine all muslim inhabitants of the West Bank voting for the Israeli government.... just imagine it...it would be their victory... and Israel would dissapear as we know it. The Jordan-Palestine solution is not realistic, you cannot expel millions of people to Jordan and call it a solution, and you know it. It´s crap
