As a binding treaty, this convention takes precedence over the nonbinding road map. Indeed, given the road map's prejudicial position on Jewish building it can be reasonably argued that the road map itself calls for a breach of international law. On September 28, 2001, the UN Security Council passed binding Resolution 1373. Resolution 1373, which was initiated by the US government, and was passed by authority of Chapter VII, committed all UN member states to "refrain from providing any form of support, active or passive, to entities or persons involved in terrorist acts." The whole "settlement mess" was started when Jordan, Egypt and Syria rejected the Israeli offer to return the territories for peace agreements with all three of those nations back in 1967. Resolution 242 discusses the partial return of territories "occupied" by Israel during the '67 war. The political reality around Gaza and the West Bank changed by 1990, with Jordan and Egypt renouncing sovereignty over those regions, and the territories ceased to be "occupied" under international law because there was no other sovereign claimant to them. As such, UN Resolution 242 is, from a legal perspective, dead in the water. Israel's "settlements" in the disputed territories are fully legal under international law because the territories are no longer "occupied" as defined by international law. Obama is 100% wrong and the only reason other nations back Obama is because it's politically convenient to do so.

Those are not occupied lands . Israel was attacked by Jordan [ we are talking about the "west bank" or better Judea Samaria ] in 1967 . This Judea Samaria did'nt belong to Jordan , they had occupied this ILLEGALLY in 1948 . When you are attacked and defend yourself , you may use those lands . By the way , Harold . from 1948 till 67 those regions were NOT occupied by Israel . Was there then peace ?
