6. the point of view presented is correct!
Sally Forth   (07.05.09)
Mr. Barkat climbed into a tree and has been fomenting hatred amongst Jews since before his election! Mr. Barkat should begin the search for a more positive position...perhaps he can ask his wife to arrange his clothing in Feng Shu fashion just like she did with his office?! Alternatively Mr. Barkat should learn relearn: "What is unpleasant to you, do not do to others!"
7. Joe # 3 , i will replace this broken one
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.05.09)
That means : i will not accept them in my midst , i will stop them from being violent .

I am somewhat (but pleasantly) surprised YNet let this article through. Over the past few weeks I have submitted several t/backs stating exactly what this article says but not one was published. For those t/backers who still question what this article says (eg #1) the mainstream haredi community has an immense problem with this so-called fringe element. (In English speaking countries, they are called feral youth.) By and large they are not from mainstream haredi families, but from families recently turned religious. The haredi community has no precedents in dealing with this problem and currently has very little control over it.
9. Most interesting that YNET did not cover municipal meeting..
Jerusalemite   (07.05.09)
that took place last Thursday at that meeting a building plan for Jewish housing in East(ern) Jerusalem was passed. It was a plan that was aggresively supported by Mr. Barkat and the Likud faction in the municipality. That plan allows the first stage building of 20 single family Jewish homes on a property on the slopes of Mt. Scopus owned by Mr. Moskowitz. The second stage yet to be approved plan calls for building an additional 100 single family Jewish homes. All of this was approved despite the direct request of US Secretary of State Clinton to freeze the plan. And despite the fact that to the immediate north of the property is the home of Mufti Haj Amin Al-Houssaini. But really its ok that we are all busy with a silly parking lot it suits Mr. Barkat that the secular leftists who voted for him are busy with the parking lot because that way he can ramrod his very right wing plans right through the municipal council without a single word of complaint from the left. Because after all what does the left care about the plight of the Palestinian residents of Jerusalem as long as they get a parking spot on Shabbat! Mr. Barkat wins again! Eventually we'll all suffer some more!

11. Mostly accurate. Some of the loud or violent protesters
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (07.06.09)
weren't just the street youths, though - some were young Yeshiva students looking for a thrill. Unfortunately, 12-14 is not an age at which people, ultra-Orthodox included, are known for being all that clever. Though most of the violence is still due to the street youths, on which the Eda Haredit has no control whatsoever - unfortunately it's a phenomenon that has existed for *decades*, and which of which the Eda Haredit remains the last, steadfast holder of head-in-sand non-solutions. They can't control them, because ultra-Orthodox societies have only Rabbinical authority and community pressure as leverage - the street youths couldn't care less. The Eda Haredit doesn't really cooperate with anyone from the outside, be it police, sociologists and so on, in trying to help get the kids out of the streets - every other ultra-Orthodox community has been doing that for a long time now, but the Eda Haredit is still half living in denial (there is no problem/they are not our problem) and half in the life of a recluse - they do not seek help from outside the community because their trust and familiarity of people outside of it is minimal. And unlike what observer claims, these are not children of people who recently turned religious - in fact it's quite the opposite! The "they're from Ba'alei Tshu'va" claim is part of the head-in-sand, they're-not-of-us mentality that only made the problem worse for years. Without admitting to the problem and doing the best to solve it, it will only become worse. And part of the problem is that the Eda Haredit still lives the reality of "Yeshiva or Nothing". If a person is incapable or simply unsuitable for Yeshiva study, then he ends up being a dropout without any possible path for himself in the community - it's either the street kids or out of the community outright. As long as the Eda Haredit refuses to accept the violent youths as its own, to take responsibility for them and try to HELP them off the streets far more actively than today, and as long as there is no cooperation with the police to stop those who are beyond help, then the violence at the protests will continue.
12. Roman , only 5 of the 11 indicted were minors
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.06.09)
So not only "fringe youth" use violence .
