I think that young people are trained to respect authority figures without question. That's why this guy (and others) sometimes fake being an authority figure, or in severe circumstances they even become one. When the kids get into a situation like this, I'm not sure that they know exactly how to interpret it or how to get out of it. These guys can confuse or outsmart their victims, who are perhaps totally niave about. They may also feel overpowered. So a lot going on. They need help from grown ups.
