1. Bib dont let the sexiness of praise CLOUD your COMMON SENSE
LongTermvsShortTerm ,   BigPicture, Israel   (07.08.09)
Israel is our Jordan is theres. Put pressure on the hashemite from mecca, its not his land. Let the arabs who claim to be "palestinian" (literally "phillistines", an ancient greek sea-faring people who settled in Gaza and were ancient jews' nemesis; no relation to todays so called "palestinians, of who'm 90% are descendants of arabians, syrians, egyptians, jordanians, and iraqis who came to israel with the repeated influx of returning jews in in the 1800s, in search of jobs, money and and budding economic conditions. All things that were non existent for these Arabs in their respective countries) have Jordan. Jordan is 80% palestinian and its 78% of palestine mandate. RETURN it to being Palestine. Israel at 8 miles wide (minus west bank, our 4000 year homeland aka Judea (where our name "Jew" comes from) and samaria) is suicide. But al qaedah hamas hizbollah, 25 arab countries, 57 muslim countries and the dozens of ignorant western countries would love you Bibi. Does Bibi have the balls to stand up? ....Vote Feiglin next time.
2. sherman
alexi   (07.08.09)
Bibi's heart is in the right place. He is somewhat insecure and does give in a bit when faced with US economic and veto pressure.Whatever he does, he is not petrified like olmert was who would sell his mother to the nazis to save his own skin. He has peled, leiberman , and yaalon to draw lines in the sand and say no more.Barak also wilts under US pressure but he is suited better as part of likud away from olso freaks.Obama and Mitchel are tough negotiaters, Mitchel is an excellent one, Obama is emotionally tied to rashidi's nakba story and has no links with jewish history.it is evident that he is not pushing the arab side at all, rather he is pushing Israel. On the other hand, the moslem world is divided over him and iran's protests may be in part due to iran's outreach. Sherman is correct that in the pinch, Israel and bibi have to do what's best for israel and do it alone and say no to obama. olmert had no guts, zero guts to do this. Livni, though better than olmert is limited in her thinking and also cannot say no to US. Two state right now in the borders that she has in mind are not at all in israel's interests and she is dead wrong, dead wrong about it.For all the flak lieberman is taking, he is steadfast and has no trouble tellling US no, no more withdrawal, like he just told assad to jump in the lake about the return of the golan. its is peace for peace. Golan can be dimilitarized but is israeli, end of story. And Peres should shut up about it. israel never elected him PM for similar reasons to why they rejected olmert-he has no understanding at all of security.

4. Two States
Bernie ,   Erehwon, USA   (07.08.09)
There have never been more than two states, the living and the dead. Soon U must be prepared for the latter to be greatly enlarged via Teheran, etc.
5. Netanyahu proved himself
.....DACON9   (07.08.09)
In uttering these words, Benjamin Netanyahu proved himself to be unworthy of the leadership of the nation. For they clearly show that he lacks either the political wisdom or the political will for the task. I TOLD YOU SO....
6. Reconition of Palestine...
James Hovland   (07.08.09)
Recognition of Palestine, including borders, does not require Israel's approval.
7. Netanyahu
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot, Israel   (07.08.09)
Netanyahu's history shows he is a great speaker but a poor doer. First the 2 state solution is a given, oposition to this idea is futile and unacceptble to he world. Isreal can not stand alone as we do not have the reasources to counter all the threats we must face.. What is needed is a leader that can walk between what can not be changed and what is best or Israel. The leader must lead and not just talk. But, obstanate oposition to the inevetable is not needed, instead knowing how to make the best of a situation is the key.
8. BIBI IS AS WEAK AS THEY COME
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (07.08.09)
He looks terrified of Obama.Bibi is "just a gal who can't say no".If Obama told him to go boil his head one could be sure Bibi would not hesitate to comply.Bibi is just a slave.Israel is a sad excuse for a sovereign state.
9. Bibi Is An Obedient Slave
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (07.08.09)
He simply does what his master,Obamanation ,tells him to.Bibi is a disappointment ,but not to me.I always saw through his BS.
10. Bibi,Mr."SAYERET MATKAL"
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (07.08.09)
Simply does whatever his wife and his mistress ,i.e Obama, order him to.The man is terrified of both and has as much backbone as a medusa jellyfish.Go ahead Bibi, prove me wrong please.
11. Bibi Has No Business Being P.M
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (07.08.09)
He is out of his depth. His BS will only get him so far.Israel, sadly,is in deep trouble I fear.Bibi is simply not prime minister material,he is not "the right stuff." Even Olmert had more courage .
12. Bibi is A Fraud
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (07.08.09)
Who in their right mind would ever buy a used car from this liar?
13. Obama must have made the Russians laugh ..
redbourn ,   tel aviv   (07.08.09)
It hasn't been reported much in the English language press, and I guess one can understand why. Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin must have had a hard time not laughing out loud when U.S. President Barack Obama expressed the view that they should try and clamp down on corruption. The French press had headlines similar to, "Obama puts his foot in the plate". The world has got to be concerned that the President of the US is really that naive and out of touch with reality. 14. Netanyahu's vision -
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.08.09)
Unfortunately Bibi does not know how to say "No" and he is looking more like Olmert by the minute politically which is why I never voted for him .
15. Once more, it's not the public that has grown tired ...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (07.08.09)
Once more, it's not the public that has grown tired - it's the leadership. It's easier to tell the public that 'we will make this a fun place to live in,' than it is to say we still have days of blood, sweat and tears ahead of us. It's not the public that has grown tired. Operation Defensive Shield, the Second Lebanon War and Operation Cast Lead proved that. Has the leadership sold out the county's interests ? Can a solution be reached at this points? Is the concept of ”peace” real peace? The word “Peace” has permeated the democaties, but there is no peace as explained at : http://xrl.us/ostjf
16. Whoa, Give Bibi a break, guys!
Ain od milvado ,   Beit Shemesh   (07.08.09)
Cut Bibi some slack! How many of you have tried to be in his shoes? Everyone can be a big talker, as he was as well, but as soon as you have to deal with the world - well, you see even Leiberman changed his tune. You have to be more "rational" to the world. Bibi has been just "talking the talk" that he has to with the world. Is this deceitful? Perhaps, but I don't think so. The way I see it, Israel and it's PM have 2 choices: 1) be a "man" or "leader" and say no way to all the world's crazy demands, but I for one am not sure Israel has the resources, financial or otherwise, to do so and option 2) to "Talk the talk" about anything we could hypothetically "give in on" - so we can tell the U.S. - "If you can accomplish this, then you can have your so-called peace process, and so be it" but those are the red lines we will not cross - and good luck to the U.S. to accomplish it. Bibi knows the Arabs would never agree, especially since they obviously want Jerusalem, and even more so that they refused Olmert a deal with even east Jerusalem as it's capital - so Bibi knows that this will never bear fruit and is doing what he has to politically to try to hang on to our biggest ally to date (which has changed THEIR tune substantially). When Israel must do something for themselves that Bibi believes we MUST do (i.e. bomb Iran) I don't think he will be wishy washy, presuming he deems it the correct decision for Israels well being. At the same time the hearts of leader's are in G-d's hands (as we learn from history with Pharoah), so definitely there is always a real need to pray....!
17. Strong leader
Alexandre Chinovich   (07.08.09)
Mr. Netanyahu can be strong if and only if he has a strong chief over him. So he was a good finance minister under Sharon. Otherwise, he is a rag doll. Step by step he will give in not only to Muslim America and antisemitic Europe but also to the Dawn-smiled defence minister and the rotten president . Bad luck for Israel.

19. All Bibi cares about is eating steak and rubbing elbows with
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.08.09)
the world's rich and famous. He doesn't care about leading the Jewish people because for all practical purposes he doesn't want to be a Jew, just a politician.
20. democracy- deal with it
Lisa   (07.08.09)
Israel elected the government (well, Bibi did not get the majority of votes, but that is a flaw Israel will have to iron out--- he was only second..... blame Peres) Anyway: Israel is a democracy that most of the time works- the guy was elected for a second time- now the country has to live with his decision--- forget about blaming the rest of the world- he is your leader- speaking for you- whatever TBs say has no bearing.
21. # 16 Ain od milvado & # 20 Lisa
Martin Sherman   (07.08.09)
Dear Ain od milvado The question of "How many of you have tried to be in his shoes?" is hardly the point. The point is that Netanyahu was elected to implement the policy he presented to the electorate and to prevent the implementation of a policy he warned was too dangerous to accept. In effect he has now adopted the policy proposed by those he opposed. Accordingly he has admitted that either he was wrong and his political rivals were right, or that he incapable of implementing the policy he endorsed. Either way a compelling case can be made for his resignation – either because of lack political judgment or because of lack of operational competence Dear Lisa, The point of democracy is to elect a government to implement its election pledges to the voter. Winning an election is not a license to do whatever one wishes – certainly not to implement policies of rivals which were deemed too dangerous to support. Nothing could endanger the democratic process more than condoning such behavior. For if this to be the accepted norm, what would be the point of voting? Why bother to go to the ballot box at all if your elected candidate adopts the policies he warned not to vote for?
22. This piece is right on the mark in my opinion.
Steve Klein   (07.08.09)
Prme Minister Netanyahu seems unable to stand up to bullies like Mr. Obama. Obama makes immoral demands. Netanyahu waffles and capitulates. He brings shame to me as a Jew. He should bring shame to every "thinking" and self-respecting Jew. We need men for leaders. Benjamin Netanyahu is not behaving like a man. There were small, more principled parties and candidates, but they could not capture enough of Israel's vote; sadly. Regardless of what one thinks of Feiglin, Mr. Netanyahu's lack of principle was exhibited when he sought to move him from the number 20 slot he earned in the Likud primary to the number 36 slot. This caused many more on the right to vote for Yisrael Beiteinu / Lieberman, though Lieberman is also lacking in many respects, He also supports a Muslim-enemy state in Judea and Samaria. When Netanyhu was asked to form a governing coalition, shockingly he reached out to Kadami, the party of mass-expulsion and retreat. As one poster wrote, this should not be a surprise to any of Netanyahu's supporters who expected better. I see nothing in Mr. Sherman's piece with which I disagree. He is right. Israel needs a leader willing to say "NO." Mr. Netanyahu is proving once again, he is not a leader.
23. TALKBACK NUMBER 16.
ORAO STRANKA. ,   TSARIGRAD U SRBIA.   (07.08.09)
TALKBACKER NUMBER 21 IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT IN WHAT HE WRITES AS SUCH. YOU DO NOT SEEM EVEN TO UNDERSTAND THE ARTICLE AS SUCH. THERE WAS ANOTHER WAY FOR NETANYAHU TO GO, THAN TO GIVE / CAVE IN, AND THAT WAS, - TO WAIT OBAMA AND THE US OUT-. BECAUSE WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY POSSIBILITY TO DO WHAT YOU WANT, -THEN WAIT FOR JEHOWAHS MOVE- JEHOWAH WILL SORT IT OUT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xipq208iNHg I THINK NETANJAHU HAS TO GO. Orao.

Yair Lapid vs Martin Sherman--lightweight entertainment thinking vs hard analysis
25. 2 states, 1 state, ethnic cleansing or apartheid.
Jacob ,   Cambridge, UK   (07.08.09)
Sherman rules out a 2-state formula, without giving any indication of what he would like to see in its place. There are three options: 1) A single democratic state, which would inevitably soon have a Palestinian majority. 2) A single state, which is nominally democratic but achieves a Jewish majority through ethnicly cleansing the Palestinians. 3) A single non-democratic state, where a Jewish minority governs a Palestinian majority. Which of these three options do you prefer, and do you really think the international community would permit 2 or 3 to go ahead?
26. Jacob #25: Do you have any historical perspective?
(07.08.09)
You give us three options, though there is a forth option; option #4, the north American example. Have you studied it? I have. Americans are proud of their history of conquest, as is much of the "international community." Who is complaining today least of all the UK? I choose option #4, the American option. What say you Jacob?
27. TALKBACK NUMBER 25.
ORAO STRANKA. ,   TSARIGRAD U SRBIA.   (07.08.09)
YOU ERR !!!. YEHOWAH HAS ALSO AN OPTION !!!. - JEHOWAH HAS PROMISED TO BRING AL JEWS AND ISRAELIS BACK TO THEIR FOREFATHERS HOMELAND - THAT IS SOME 10 MILLION ISRAELIS, SO FAR WE KNOW. Deuteronomy 30 1And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt take them to heart among all the nations whither Jehovah thy God hath driven thee, 2and shalt return to Jehovah thy God, and shalt hearken to his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy sons, with all thy heart and with all thy soul; 3that then Jehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will gather thee again from all the peoples whither Jehovah thy God hath scattered thee. 4Though there were of you driven out unto the end of the heavens, from thence will Jehovah thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee; 5and Jehovah thy God will bring thee into the land that thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. FURTHER - HESEKIEL CHAPTER 47., verses - 21And ye shall divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel. 22And it shall come to pass that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, who shall beget children among you; and they shall be unto you as the home-born among the children of Israel: with you shall they draw by lot inheritance among the tribes of Israel. 23And it shall come to pass that in the tribe in which the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give [him] his inheritance, saith the Lord Jehovah. JEHOWAH HAS THE SOLUTION TO AL PROBLEMS !!!. Orao.
28. #16 YOU HAVE A POINT
