31. 1 & 2
zionist forever   (07.08.09)
Arafat was like Saddam Hussain neither one of them gave a dam about any religion islam or christianity they cared about their own personal ambition and will to hold onto power and to do that they need to be seen smiling in public as much as you can. Arafat wanted power and nothing else. Things you can forget about 1) Right of return its just a fantasy and the sooner you get over nakba and right of return the happier you will be. 2) Jerusalem your free to visit today same as you have been for the past 43 years. You cannot though divide the city physicly or politically if for no other reason it will complicate life for residents jew & arab and it will mean less investment in the city. Politicians don't think beyond their cause. The palestinians had an oportunity for a binational state with a very small jewish population in 1917 when they rejected the Balfour decleration before zionism had any large scale support worldwide even amongst jews. Now that chance is gone forever no matter how badly the 2 state idea turns out. Now if you stop making demands & agree to NEGOTIATE ( accept you can't have it all your own way ) & end terror then maybe you will get something other than misery.
32. it's was always about islam and not palestine
ygalg ,   israel   (07.09.09)
Palestine was and is but a tool to promote a greater purpose which is to add to Islamic world map. few christians who aided are "useful idiots" who thought they are serving a national purpose.
33. They don't want a state. They want to
Zooog ,   US   (07.09.09)
destroy a state. Israel!
34. The creation of the “Palestinian” people.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (07.09.09)
Fundamentally, the obsessional demonisation of Israel is based on a false set of beliefs taken straight from Arab propaganda — that as a result of Holocaust guilt, Israel was created when a load of European Jews with no claim to the land were dumped on Palestine, driving out its rightful Arab Muslim inhabitants. With the help of Jew-hatters, and the deniers of the Holocaust, lies and propaganda created a people that never existed in history - the “Palestinian” people. For nore details : http://xrl.us/berwte
35. what world do they live in?
yonatan silverman ,   tel aviv, israel   (07.09.09)
No surprise to you or to me perhaps. But if that's the case what wavelength is Senator George Mitchell receiving his data from? Or Obama or Clinton? Or Sarkozy...? It's like Mondo Bizarro from Superman comic books. "Bizarro and the Bizarro World have become somewhat well known in popular culture, and the term Bizarro is used as to describe anything that uses twisted logic or that is the opposite of something else" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarro
36. Most Islamic groups want the entire world
Zion   (07.09.09)
they use Israel to propagandise their cause
37. The palestinians already hold 78% of Palestine
Israeli   (07.09.09)
Palestinian State of Jordan is basically 78% of the Original territory of Palestine.
38. Sure we donnt

alexander tel-aviv   (07.09.09)
Look at you - you just visited here once, and you had a revelation and now become the enlightened one. Pal-s want dignity and freedom? Israel is an apartheid state? Are you on medication, Jack from Fort Collins?
41. #30 what utter utter crap
Danny   (07.09.09)
Palestinians have been offered a state on a regular basis - 1936, 1947, 2000 and always always rejected it. Fundamentally, their leadership are happier being "revolutionaries", professional whiners and leaches on the world than the boring effort of running a country.
42. the article is correct they don't think
ghostq   (07.09.09)
terms of state, they couning too much on donations, they lack of self-critisism and don't have self responsibility for their own, they elected and org that was declared as terror org by the UN, they got self distruction tendency, let alon killing each other for political prestige.
43. worry more about whether Israel still wants a Jewish state
Simon ,   Palestine   (07.09.09)
That would be a better use of Mr Plocker's energies. Having spent 40 years and a trillion dollars attempting to turn Israel into a bi-national entity through the settlement adventure, Zionists react in shock when Palestinians reluctantly come to accept a One State reality. But in some respects he is right. The Nation state is not a natural part of the middle east. Arab culture is more about clans and Empires. Arafat was probably the one person who could have sold statehood to the Palestinians - drawing heavily on his Nasserite Egyptian background. Now he's gone it's much more difficult. But it's ironic that this should be pointed out by the one "State" in the world without an official border, constitution or nationality.
44. Having a conflict is far more useful to the Palestinians
Ken Jurist   (07.09.09)
Having a conflict is far more useful to the Palestinians then a solution would ever be.
45. It doesn't matter if Jews want a State, have no other choice
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (07.09.09)
there is no other Jewish State in the world. Arbs, and let's be honest that this what these Fakestinians are, have 22 choices that fit them exactly as they want.
46. #1, The truth hurts.
Jake   (07.09.09)
The Palestinian Authority has an official religion, Islam. Christians have been relegated to a mere 1% minority in the West Bank and Gaza. Palestinian Christian fortunes have headed into the abyss after the Oslo accords were signed. The churches "that dot Palestine" always seem to have a mosque next door that is always larger than a dot. If you want to know how Arafat and Fatah really thought of Christians, go and see what they did to the churches they took over during the Civil War in Lebanon. However, I do have to hand to them, they are much more aware of the necessity of PR and image than Israel. You are right, Arafat never missed an official Christian ceremony. But this was not out of a favor to their local Christian "brothers". This was out of a need to court powerful foreign churches, like the Vatican and Greek Orthodox Church, who own land in the Holy Land and have powerful political muscle in the West - in order to achieve Arafat's vision that "The Palestinian flag will fly over the mosques, churches, and walls of Jerusalem".
47. #6, "Palestinians lived under the Romans"
Jake   (07.09.09)
The Romans would definitely not know what the heck you are talking about. There was a province of the Roman Empire called Judaea that decided it did not want to live under Roman yoke and decided to launch a series of bloody revolts against Rome. Rome decided it could not deal with a nation rooted in the land that had self-knowledge and sense of purpose and mission like them. So they destroyed Judaea and wiped it off the map, and plowed up Jerusalem with a yoke of oxen and sent the Jews into exile and renamed Judaea 'Palestine', or rather Syria-Palaestina. The name that your people selected for itself in 1964, 'Palestinian' therefore is the product of an imposition of a colonial Empire on a piece of land that was ethnically cleansed and despoiled of its indigenous inhabitants. It is a colonial name. Deal with it.
48. The Arabs are not motivated by positive national aspirations
Ron B. ,   Lod   (07.09.09)
For the Jews, the main point was to establish a sovereign Jewish state. For the Arabs, the main point was, always, to completely oppose any form of Jewish sovereignty in any part of Palestine. The Arabs are not motivated by positive national aspirations. They have no desire to return to a "homeland" and to realize their imaginary "Palestinian" nationality. They simply want to make sure that the Jews are not in Israel. It is not despair caused by loss of what is theirs that motivates them; it is the hope to destroy what belongs to the Jews. The nurturing of this hope is the factor that gave birth to Arab nationalism. More at : http://xrl.us/be2ig9
49. #43. Does Britain have a Constitution?
Jake   (07.09.09)
Why is it ok for some countries to have common law, and not Israel?
50. #32: Ironic, since the Koran says Israel belongs to the Jews
5th generation ,   Israel   (07.09.09)
51. #1
Anna ,   London England   (07.10.09)
'Palestine was and will always be regarded as a pluraliste society by Palestinians". Is that why Christians are persecuted in Gaza and the West Bank and why so many have fled?
52. Palestinians don't want at state
Pam ,   Cambridge. U.K.   (07.11.09)
This has been the consistant message given out by all Arabs. They want Israel disposessed and driven into the sea. Its USA and Europe which want the 2 - state solution so they don't have to face reality.
53. iam palastine

57. to Nair about politeness...
EW ,   baltimore   (09.27.09)
Dear Mr Noir. Yes,Mr Arafat visited Christian churches. Moreover he married a Christian lady. Though I reject rumors but it is possibility he died by Western { Christian as West is} death } from HIV-AIDS . What it has to do with his vision of Palestine only You know. But he never denied or betray his belief that Palestine is Arab land where Jews are permitted to live and Cristians as well. " Permitted " is not what Jews had and have in mind and what Christians {West} agree. I respect Arabs very much for their honesty & kindnes for permit & Hamas for its bravery of rejecing even a permit. I have less respect for those who have realized it belatedly or still not realizing at all. Alas , politeness is strong trait of West. As they said in young USA " God created smal people and big ones . But Colt created his " Colt -45 to make their chances equal." Very polite,You would agree. The article is intellegent . Maybe , the conclusion is not clear. In polte interpretation of American saying it should have said: " Cod created very few Jews on very small land and very many Arabs on very large land. But Lockhid- Marietta created its F -35 to allow Jews to live without permit second time in their history. First was many years ago , on the same land.
