I applaud Ynet for publishing this legal Rabbinic ruling, even though considering your motivation is more likely ridicule. At least your doing more than promoting gay rights or the proclamations of anti-Israel rights groups.

stroke. If I think nicely then I think opps they mistranslated because they were in a hurry. If I think not nicely then this must be this week's anti-hareidi offering! What are you people afraid of?
6. What about the right of women
François ,   Montréal   (07.15.09)
They surely would like to know what their male partners look like too. Is it permitted for them to feel their date ?
7. On which halacha does the rabbi base this ruling?

If he'd say it wasn't allowed he'd be denounced as heartless. Rabbis are only held up for derision it seems.
9. The most important line in the entire article is...
David ,   Hartford USA   (07.16.09)
"a religious ruling that forbids men from looking at women because of their beauty..." The torah does not demand this of men. Period. Are Jewish men so pathetic that they need a 'religious' edit to tell them who they can look at? Does this mean they can't look at their mothers or sisters or cousins? Or the girls they played with as youngsters? I assure you that these men will grow up to be sexual misfits, just like Arab men. Sickening how the worst of Arab behavior is making its way into orthodox 'rulings.' Pretty soon, to prevent the sexually starved men from even catching a glimpse of a woman, there will be a 'religious ruling' that requires all women to wear burqas. The only way to save Israeli men is for Victorias Secret to have a fashion show in Israel. Maybe then the men will realize that G-d put women on earth to be seen and appreciated. "Religious ruling?" Please. If it's not in the torah and not in the talmud, it's just some old geezer rabbi trying to get his 15 minutes of fame. All you Haredi men: if you look at a pretty woman you won't melt and you won't wet your pants- so enjoy! Israeli women are the prettiest on the planet!

In regard to the Victoria's Secret fashion show, perhaps what you should have said is, "It's the only way to save 'Orthodox Jewish' men." There's a huge difference between them and Israeli men...who definitely don't need it because they don't have those religious hang-ups.
12. 9 David: Adultery starts in the EYES. Then the image goes to
Rivkah   (07.16.09)
the HEART, a metaphor for the emotions center. Most think that is in the brain or the chest, but for men it is the head of the penis which is heart shaped. You ask where in the Bible is the prohibition to look at women. There is not a prohibition but an example of how to prevent the image of a woman becoming an adulterous desire in the head of the penis. Job made a covenant with his eyes not to look upon a maid. He had a shrew for a wife who was so mean she told him to curse God and die when tragedy struck. Yet Job said he never ground down upon another woman (but that wretched creature who had seven more children for him after the first seven died). That means Job was not an adulterer. That takes a lot of effort, not to commit adultery. Perhaps looking at pretty women and Playboy magazine does not present a temptation for you with all the estrogenic chemicals in fertilizers, plasticizers, soy foods, etc. that have made you less than a man chemically than the Patriarchs. You don't know what it is to feel like a man if your testosterone levels are diluted with estrogen so that you are more like a eunuch than a biological man.
13. No.9 David
Louis ,   Chashmonaim, Israel   (07.16.09)
David Shalom, Firstly, the reference is probably to stare in a leering type manner. Would you say that staring at women in a victoria secret's fashion show elevates the dignity of the men and women involved? Are you comfortable if the woman being leered at is your wife or daughter? Obviously extremes are generally problematic, but it works both ways. Does the availability of pornography lessen sexual deviancy? Finally, you may disagree, but are you an expert in Talmud to make such definitive statements? Interested to hear your thoughts.

17. The eyes
Dan ,   NY and Israel   (07.16.09)
Time and time again I am astounded and the absurdity of soe of this. I believe strongly in the torah and understand the biological/hormonal aspects that are so incredibly strong. I cannot understand why this is an edict which only includes men. Women are also visual beings- we prefer men be good looking or at the very least very well groomed and clean- whether we can see or not- we want to smell andtouch something that feels nice. Incidentally- as New Yorker- I am disgusted at the amount of times on my walk home from work, I passed several upscale strip clubs to see Charedi men walking out with Payot/payis and a baseball cap- now that seems to render their being charedi- useless and severely contradictive.
18. 15 The seven deadly sins are a Roman Catholic invention.
Rivkah   (07.16.09)
There are 613 commandments in the Torah and Tanakh. There are 900 commandmetns in the New Covenant of Rabbi Yeshua. Read those instead of the commandments of men (churchianity). Revelation lists the sins that result in eternal death if not repented of and covered by the blood of the Lord. Adultery is one of them. My physician is the Great Physician (the Lord). You should beware of pharmaceuticals that cause hallucinations since Revelation says sorcerers go to hell. Noah Hutchings defined sorcery as taking or providing to others hallucinogenic drugs. Much of the profession of psychiatry is sorcery which is witchcraft. You are telling me to take hallucinogenic drugs which tells me you are condoning witchcraft and sorcery. The Lord rebuke you.
19. Do blind men really need it?
Raffaele Ladu ,   Verona, Italia   (07.16.09)
A female friend once told me that she once stayed in a hotel with a group of blind people. At the end of their stay, they proved their heightened sensitivity by describing her with striking precision - they even knew her bra size without ever seeing or touching her bust. So ... I don't think that blind men really need to touch their potential mates to evaluate their body. Take care.

chava ,   yerushalayim   (07.17.09)
No, what you wrote is definitely not true: "Maybe then the men will realize that G-d put women on earth to be seen and appreciated." Women are people, not objects that have been put here on earth for you to treat them as a thing to be looked at & "appreciated." I hope you didn't mean this the way it came out.

Yaakov Sullivan ,   NYC   (07.18.09)
When i first met my husband he was very scared of it and resuisted a lot. in their Muslim culture it is not practiced, but now since I became a Musliom there is no problem. we touch and kiss in public and even people in the subway are gelous...

im afraid this "Rabbi" is one of the dati leumi and therefore is not surprisingly teaching wrong halacha.

Are you a male, female, hetero or homosexual. Musliom or Jew? Do you speak English? I couldn't make sense of your posting at all!
28. #18 Rivkah
Margo   (07.21.09)
Rivkah, are you saying 613 resp. 900 commandments are better than just plain concise 10? If you can say it in one word- why write a book? what does this have to do with a blind man, by the way?
29. Feel - how?
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (07.23.09)
The rabbi must know that the blind, both male and female use their sense of touch to "see" their mates. Since the face is what is most desired to visualize, that is what is touched. Our fingertips are most sensitive and are capable of detecting many nuances in another's features. Then, our hearing is another tool in defining another person. The voice, it's tone, it's volume, can be a critical tool as well. Man has many senses, sight is merely one.
