1. Orthodox institution ordained a woman as Rabbi ????
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.19.09)
What kind of institution is this ?
2. womens rights
Bracha M. ,   BROOKLYN, NY   (07.19.09)
you can call her whatever you want. Smicha she doesnt have, so a Rabbi she isnt. But her job is a good one. She is an intermediary between the Rabbis who usually are very difficult to deal with and the women who have to get their problems addressed properly. This is what it means, fighting for the rights of the women, fighting for the womens issues. Not putting on a pink Kippah and a pink Tallis and being called to the Torah. If this is what a women rabba is, then Kol Hakavod, its about time. If not, well then, this is whats missing. An educated women in the Talmud to fight for the womens rights.
3. To #1
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (07.19.09)

4. I am having difficulty following this
Shira ,   NY B"H YERUSHALAYIM   (07.19.09)
the "orthodox" community now ordains female rabbis? seriously whoever wrote this is smoking or snorting something because the true orthodox would never do such things. I never got such a good laugh before..thank you ynet
5. All the Rabba (s) have my blessing in advance, ekin irvu
gba   (07.19.09)
6. "Raba" isn't an innovation
Evan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.19.09)
The title "raba" has been used by the Israel Progressive and Masorti movements for a number of years for its female rabbis. So the article should have said that Kolech chose the term currently used by Israeli movements that ordain women rabbis, rather than present the title as an innovation.
7. What do you mean? The word was already there.
(07.20.09)
If you need something to do with your time, get a job.

10. #2 Excellent talk back
(07.20.09)
But, I must add something that will never change. It ALL depends on who you know. Particularly in the TA Bet Din, for sure in J'm too and everywhere probably. Nothing else counts or matters and nothing else will help you. If you're 'in' with (one of) the 'big shot(s)' there, you'll be ok. If not, then in lay terms, 'you've had it'. This is common knowledge, and that's how it works, very well indeed, if you're 'in' with the right guy(s) there. That's how it's always been, and how it will continue. PS I know of a case where a lady managed, in quite a nontruthful way, actually, (again, depends who you know) to get one of these dangerous 'big shots' off her case, and she did ok, for her. Who can blame her. Shout gevalt as I haven't signed my name. That's ok. I just want you all to know.
11. Yentas go home and bake challot for your families
Josh the wise ,   Jerusalem   (07.20.09)
this is so stupid -- women rabbis. i wouldn't even bother to read their Torah opinions. how about we call them"Yentas"? Its a new term I am coining. I hope the Academy will accept it. Btw,we should call their "p whipped" husbands "rebbetzins".
12. A woman rabba in the holam haba.
Philippe Delaporte ,   Marseilles France   (07.20.09)
Don't we trust men anymore to be rabbis , in the context of jewish religion when were women named to hold such a high position throughout history? Or is it that we are living in the 21st century and everything is permitted. What happens when this rabba has her period 5 days per month, is she still authorized to perform as a rabba? How about when she is pregnant, is she still authorized to conduct the service? What does Halacha say in this respect?
13. Rabanit?
Or ,   Israel   (07.20.09)

...........DACON9   (07.20.09)
19. Women Rabbis
Bruria ,   Haifa   (07.20.09)
What kind of Orthodox are we speaking of? Is this some kind of a break-off branch? Just what we need in Israel, one more group fighting for control. I sure hope the husbands in this "orthodox" group are very open minded, because they will have to choose between a rabbi and their rabba
20. #2 rare to read a TB so thoughtful. Shkoach

I too agree with #2 in my talkback but I added there some valuable info. that women here, with no protektsia need to know.
25. It's about time
tma   (07.21.09)
we had female rabbis. There are definitely some good rabbis out there, but there are times when a woman's insight and intuition would be more valuable and efficient than any rabbi's. Besides, why do we have to bow to men? Women are very intelligent and caring people and have much to offer their community. I'd go to a female rabbi any time. I'm an observant woman, btw.
26. Rabbi Mensturual=Rabba. Learn underlying facts
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (07.21.09)
Why do you think Some press and Public figurs support a Women Rabbi? Equality of sexes etc.? No. Let me lighten your mind: First they will gain a Women rabbi, Then they will rise number of women rabbis, Then one day, you will hear LESBIAN rabbies, THen immediately you will see HOMOSEXUALS, Gays will demand they should be allowed as Rabbis as well. All scheme is just to creep Gays in Rabbi ranks, that is a planned and staged scenario to take effect step by step.
27. men wannabes thats all they are.

the Masorti and Reform movements. congratualtions. May you be blessed with many wise Rabbot, as the Masorti and Reform congregations have been. Rabbanim and Rabbot working together can forge strong and caring communities where no one is side-lined.
30. #23 You must be ecstatic
three g's   (07.21.09)
with #29's message. Well done, all of you. I however, view the message behind #29's words as a message of doom, rebuke, to us all for the Nine Days. But as I said, well done. Go girl go. You've really gone girls, gone Hurrah...not.
