31. Maybe shules can fly 2 flags
Joshua the Wise ,   Jerusalem   (07.21.09)
Maybe erev shabbat the shules should fly two flags - 1st one to tell you the aruv is up and you can carry on shabbat and the second to tell if the "Yenta" is in niddah and you shouldn't come to services.
32. Hey Shira! #4
Chaya ,   Israel   (07.21.09)
There is a different - and better - world happening that you aren't even aware of. It's a shame that you - as a woman - feel this way. But hopefully your daughters will see beyond your narrowmindedness!
33. #25 YOU BOW TO MEN?
.....DACON9   (07.21.09)
THERE ARE CLEARLY DEFINED ROLES EACH GENDER PLAYS. NEITHER BOWS TO THE OTHER EVER. ITS CALLED REPECT.... THAT EACH GIVES TO THE OTHER WITH EXPECTING ANYTHING IN RETURN because its automaticaly offered in the proper situation and time . TORAH TEACHED US TO EXAMINE OURSELF BEFORE WE JUDGE AND REBUKE ANOTHER. YOU ARE OPENLY INSECURE IN YOUR FEMININITY You should take a self inventory. You say woman are more intelligent and intuitive, bowing to men, trying to assert your intelliegence and caring and have much more to offer a community then men. I WANT TO BE RESPECTFUL WHEN SAY. YOU HAVE SELF ESTEEM PROBLEMS AND MAY DO WELL TALKING ABOUT THEM AND LEARN WHAT A WOMANS ANDS MANS ROLE IS IN A RELATIONSHIP. You may go through the motions of a observant woman. Its so much more rewarding if you learned why and what you do things for. Also if you say you would go to a female rabbi anytime...I ask you what are you observing that you say your an observant woman btw. DACON9 EMAIL:jewswithvoews@gmail.com
34. #31.....hahahHAHAHAAhahha YOU MADE MY WEEK, lololol
....DACON9   (07.21.09)
SHOSHI YOU SHOULD GO BACK TO CHURCH. REFORM AND CONSERVATIVE DID WHAT JEUS PROCLAIMED... ***DONT LISTEN TO THE RABBIS, LISTEN TO HIM*** this is the name, SHOSHIS CHURCH OF LATER MESHUGAS. ....more infiltrations to destroy Torah Judaism ! DACON9
35. #4 / #2, YOU THINK SHE PLAYS GUITAR WHILE SINGING CUMBAYA ?
....DACON9   (07.21.09)
#2 WOMANS RIGHTS? THE ESSENCE OF YOUR TALKBACK I AGREE... BUT in my opinion.. Its not womans rights as much as mens disrespect. Maybe, just maybe some men like many people for many different reasons THINK to be noticed, they have act like animals maybe, the men want to be noticed and dont feel secure in many matters of a marrige and the wives are to busy raising children so the men feel ignored... to change the TORAH for such earthly problems will not solve the problems.... Every marrige should be under constant supervision every month for 3 years. This is coming from a male perspective. I think we are more balanced as JEWS IN BROOKLYN DONT YOU? LOL DACON9 EMAIL:jewswithviews@gmail.com

37. #11: shame on you
Shlomo ,   Baltimore   (07.21.09)
If a woman learns and teaches Torah so well as to be a teacher herself, I would do nothing but command it. And in regards to men -- I would be darn proud to be a husband of a learned rabba. And the comment to to the rest of you: I do not quite understand the problem, there has been historical times when some women held the title of a rabbi. For example, R. Asenath Barzani , the Hasidishe Rabbi Verbermacher, Rebbe Maiden of Ludmir. The problems with that simply were practical: While there is no need for women to daven with a minyan, even being called to be bimah it does not mean they can not, however there are scores of Halahic questions that need to be resolved, for example does a status of Nidah invalidates, makes tuvah reading of the Torah? If in the past those called to Bimah were expected to read from, and as you know it is "sung", and although now it is not done but we "assume" that anyone who does Aliah is as though reading, would it not invalidate reading if the men hear her (and hearing women sing is halihically prohibited)... So it is primary that problems, I guess.
38. that's not a problem
Shlomo ,   Baltimore   (07.21.09)
there is no problem with role separation. I understand the davening matters. My problem is that a learned woman's halachic opinion weighs less or does not even count then some green bochur fresh from the yeshiva.

In Babylon anything goes so go ahead and laugh in the face of Eloheim as you laugh at His Torah and violate His Commandments. Enjoy now while you can.
41. #33 Dacon
Gentile with a view. ,   Planet Earth   (07.21.09)
Hey Dacon, it seems you have a lot to say. The problem is, it is always critical of others. Me thinks you have a giant ego problem. You fancy yourself a Torah teacher. Moshe who was the Scribe of Torah and a friend of G-d was the most humble of men of his day. Shouldn't you look to his example? If you are putting yourself in the place of responsibility to teach others you should know you will be more successful using compassion and understanding that others may not be quite as far along as you seem to think you are. I write this to help you. A good rebuke now and then does us all good. Now you can get on with your scathing insults.

No, Mr. DACON9, I am not insecure with my feminity! What don't you say "womanhood". I am WOMAN and am proud of it. I have no insecurity about being a WOMAN. It's great to be a WOMAN. You are a moron haredi no doubt and you obviously have a problem with WOMEN. I never said that women are more intelligent and intuitive than men, but I won't argue with you if this is your opinion. As for women's and men's roles in a relationship, there's no such thing mr. haredi. We all have our own personalities, including faults and qualities and we all seek something else when choosing our life partners. Haredi men want it all: a wife who cooks, cleans, gives birth without a break and support the family while then men do nothing all day. These are the roles you're referring to. I want no part of this.

tma   (07.21.09)
I am observant and I observe Judaism, according to the Torah. I do not accept the role imposed on women by the haredi men. This does not mean that I am insecure. Quite the opposite. I love who I am. I love being a WOMAN. I have a lot of self esteem and self confidence. I am well in my skin. If I were to be reborn, I wish to be a WOMAN again.
45. A learned woman in Jewish matters
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.21.09)
can be very interesting for other believing women . She , as a woman , can better than any Rabbi understand their problems . She can be learned , have an enormous knowledge , but be a Rabbi ? an Orthodox one ?
46. "a prosecutor cannot be a defender"
Josh the Wise ,   Jerusalem   (07.21.09)
the reason that we cannot make a shofar on Rosh Hashannah & Yom Kippur from a steer's horn (although its a kosher animal) is that an accuser (the golden calf) cannot be a defense advocate (the shofar) at the same time. similarly, women who brought the sin of Gan Eden on the world and required that the Torah and system of mitzvot be given in order to elevate the divine sparks that were dispersed after the fall of mankind (following the tree of knowledge sin) cannot serve as arbitars of mitzvot and halacha for men. the prosecutor cannot be a defense advocate. accordingly, woman have their own mitzvot to do -- challah, mikvah and candles as well as Jewish education for children. I realize these mitzvot are not as sexy as "being a Rabbi" but this is what Hashem intended. People ought grow up and shoulder the specific responsibility assigned to them in Judaism. I expect the so called reform and conservative communities with their 90% inter-marriage rate to embrace all kinds of goyisha ideas but orthodox woman really should know better. please do not attack me personally, this isn't my idea or the way I might personally arrange the world. i am just telling it as it is. if you have alternative sources that directly address this issue please present them. emotional outbursts do not advance the discussion.
47. insecure men
Noa ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (07.21.09)
A Rav is a teacher. There is no reason on earth why a woman should be excluded from that job. Menstruation is none, stop being childish. And after having included one half of the population we, the Orthodox, might come for the seculars and get you back. So watch out Charles.
48. #45 Charles
Gentile with a view. ,   Planet Earth   (07.22.09)
Charles, you who have lo religion. What do you know of rabbis? There are no rabbis in Torah. Only in the techinot of those who have placed themselves in positions of authority without heavenly anointing, like this Dacon. This Rabbi stuff came from Babylon. Read Torah of Moshe and show me this rabbi teaching. They make up their own rules and replace the Word of YHVH with them and place themselves on tall podiums and say, "look at me" "I am holy." They destroy Torah and deceive the people and say "watch me, forget Torah of Moshe." Then they go and violate Shabbos by rioting and bloodshed and destruction of property. Woe unto you Rabbis because you shut up the Kingdom. And then athiest like yourself comes along and gives them honor. Oh Yerushalayim, turn your back on these hypocrites and return to Torah.

50. Noa , Beer Sheva
(07.22.09)
I know it , a Rabbi is a teacher . But it's also a title . Read what i wrote about a learned women . They can of course be great teachers in Judaism and high level professors at the Univ . I , who lived most of my life with TRUE Orthodox Jews , never heard of a Woman who is an Orthodox Rabbi by title . Half of the population Orthodox ? Central bureau of Statistics . 2004 : secular : 43 % . Non religious but following some halachah 27 % [ i , my kitchen is kosher ] . Traditionalists [ what does this mean ? ] 12 % . This leaves us with only 18 % Orthodox + charidi .
51. Gentile , i've forgot more than you will ever know .
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.22.09)
52. Maharat
Yossi G. ,   NY, USA   (07.22.09)
The Maharat was not "ordained by the Orthodox rabbinate of the United states" as you state. She was ordained by Rabbi Avi Wiess, as usual a concerned, loving, feeling person but a lone dissenting voice in the rabbinate.
53. Forgot my name in # 50
